Zhuangzi is the masterpiece of Zhuangzi, and Walden is the masterpiece of Henry David Thoreau. This paper intends to study the similarities of Zhuangzi's and Thoreau's outlooks on life by analyzing Thoreau's origin with Taoism and the absorption from Taoism in Walden. By making a large amount of analysis and comparison of the texts in these two works, the paper comes to such a conclusion: both Thoreau and Zhuangzi advocate to simplify people's material life and to seek voluntary poverty; they are willing to enjoy the solitude and pursue the spiritual independence and freedom; they prefer to return to nature, live harmoniously with nature and therefore reach the realm of"unity of heaven and humanity". They pay more attention to human existence and their spiritual state. In the complicated modern society, people devote themselves to seeking a materially rich life. However, they do not attach enough importance to spiritual richness. As a result, the whole human society is facing a serious spiritual crisis in modern times. Thoreau's and Zhuangzi's outlooks on life can lead people to go through various difficulties of life and guard the pure land of the heart.

A Contrastive Study of the Social Outlooks in Utopia and Gulliver’s Travels

Utopia,the masterpiece of Thomas More,is one of the milestones of the history of utopian socialism in the early age and condenses the essence of Renaissance spirit.While Gulliver’s Travels,Jonathan Swift’s immortal work,was bred under the impact of Enlightenment and enabled Swift to be one of the major representatives of radicals in the Enlightenment Movement.These two works will be compared in terms of their social outlooks by comparison and contrast to enlighten some inspirations on current soci⁃ety.There will be 2 perspectives:politics and culture.To be more specific,politic views put emphasis on democracy.And culture view discusses about attitudes towards female.Both works’values and limits will be involved in the research.The results show that though Utopia and Gulliver’s Travels born in different periods.They share similar background and themes with different means of artistic expression.They both reveal and criticize on the darkness of the British society in their ages and perform their yearning for an ideal society.Nevertheless,they also own varied social views in various aspects like attitudes towards women.Their ideas have been put on a significant post in English literature even in world literature,which are greatly worth our profound thinking.And a di⁃alectic perspective to view these two grand works is necessary.

Fast-food is always the one of the main culture in America just like it has been known.It is not only very important in Americans’lives,but can reflect some of their outlooks on life.This thesis gives an analysis of reflection of Americans’outlooks on life in fast-food culture.Five types of Americans’outlooks on life have been surveyed:working hard and playing hard,optimism and open-mindedness,treating the time as the life,self-independence and believing the equality.Beginning with the introduction of the emergence and development of fast-food culture in America,the thesis brings why the fast-food can be popularized among Americans to light.Consequently,we can find that some of the Americans’outlooks on life can be consistent with their fast-food culture.This thesis will be divided into four parts.The first part is the introduction and the last conclusion.The focus of this thesis is laid on the two middle parts which first display the five types of Americans’outlooks on life,then give the analysis of the reflection in fast-food culture.This thesis attempts to explore the Americans’outlooks on life.Although by the thesis we can not learn about a nation completely,we still know some aspects of their outlooks on life from fast-food culture.Key words:outlook;Americans;fast-food;
