Peer feedback is a widely utilized practice in writing classrooms for second languages(L2)that has drawn a lot of attention.While some support the practice because of the clear advantages that peer feedback offers students,others doubt its efficacy.Comparing various forms of feedback is therefore necessary,as is determining the effects that peer feedback has on students and the variables that might affect how successful peer feedback is.This paper focuses on the usefulness of peer feedback for L2 writing,based on a review of studies on the subject.The findings imply that the functions of peer and teacher feedback are distinct,and that peer feedback is advantageous to both parties,particularly to the supplier.The attitudes and cultural backgrounds of the students are among the other factors that affect how effective peer feedback is.Lastly,some implications for future research and education are presented. 展开更多

The overarching aim of this study is to find out the effects of peer feedback on Turkish EFL learners at pre-intermediate level. More specifically, the researcher sought to probe the strategies most suitable to these students by motivating them to scrutinize each other’s writings and develop their own perceptions of the advantages of becoming more critical of their writing. By addressing these aims and objectives, the researcher hoped to discover the advantages and effects of peer feedback in improving the writing skills of these students. A mixture of both quantitative and qualitative methods was considered appropriate to meet the needs of research. A questionnaire on attitudes and writing tests were used to collect primary data for the study in order to gain information about the needs of the students and the suitable strategies required for peer reading, examining, and giving feedback. Semi-structured interviews were also conducted to examine the students’ perceptions of peer feedback. Results of this study revealed that the peer feedback process helped learners in improving their writing performance as a result of which the students had a positive attitude towards using peer feedback in EFL classrooms. Based on the findings, implications for foreign language (FL) writing classes and suggestions for future studies are presented. 展开更多

The project delves into the preliminary findings of a survey of both trainers and students on the practice of using student peer feedback in interpreting practice.It first explains the theoretical foundation which justifies the use of peer feedback in interpreting practice,the research methodology and data collection.Then it brings forth specific findings concerning the implementation of peer feedback in the interpreting class followed by discussions of the role and features of student peer feedback as a means to help students ready for the booth.Analysis of the results shows that peer feedback in interpreting practice keeps students on-task,attentive and help them spot their own problems.Trainers and students themselves point to similar features of student peer feedback as focusing on comprehension of the original,word choice and numbers.The preliminary findings of the survey demonstrate the roles and features of student peer feedback in interpreting practice and point to the possible way of enhancing student’s learning curve through more effective peer feedback. 展开更多

In this article, based on the specific situation in two English major classes in Wenhua Institute attached to HUST, a series of training and experiments were designed with the aim of proving the effect of peer evaluation in writing class. While studies in peer feedback in second language writing have covered a wide scope of areas,there is a paucity of research looking at individual peer reviewers and their specific views about peer feedback.Low-level students,in particular,have always been a group of students that receive a modicum of attention in peer feedback research.This study looks at how four lowlevel students participated in peer feedback sessions and explores the reasons of different kinds of student participations.Data collection methods are composed of classroom observation,analysis of students’writing assignments,and student interviews.The findings of this study indicate that among the four participants there are four kinds of participations in peer feedback sessions,and the possible reasons include individual personalities,past traumatic experiences,low language proficiency,and poor sense of self-awareness.It is suggested that peer feedback in second language writing is a complicated issue whereby students’views,cognitive and affective needs should be taken into consideration,and writing teachers need to reconsider and redesign peer feedback sessions in second language writing classrooms according to specific teaching contexts. 展开更多

Peer feedback is found to positively influence student learning and achievement. Despite concerns from learners and teachers, it is increasingly being used successfully in ESL and EFL writing classrooms. To help teachers and researchers understand the application of peer feedback, this paper presents a new theory based on the learning sciences for why all students, even beginning EFL students, can meaningfully participate in peer feedback. It highlights the importance of feedback that is carefully structured for maximal impact. Further, it introduces the idea of the Persuasive Zone of Competence: Students are generally sufficiently competent to address performance problems among their peers, and multi-peer feedback tends to be especially persuasive. We conclude with suggestions for how to maximize the learning potentials in peer feedback in EFL/ESL writing classrooms. 展开更多

Peer feedback is a key to the quality of group work in foreign language classrooms. In order to better understand the use of peer feedback in spoken English, a ten-week study was conducted by combining peer feedback with group work. Based on Scaffolding Instruction of Constructivism, this study chose three different tools - a checklist, a qualitative feedback sheet and a grading sheet, to guide peer feedback. A questionnaire survey and three interviews were adopted to investigate the students' views and attitude toward guided peer feedback. We found: (1) Guided peer feedback plays a positive role in improving the quality of group work and its three forms were positively received by the participants; (2) Among the three tools - the checklist, the qualitative feedback sheet and the grading sheet, the grading sheet was most welcomed; (3) Only by designing the appropriate peer feedback forms and the tasks at the same time, could peer feedback achieve good results. 展开更多
