PBS performance is usually measured by spectrophotometer after coating and cementing, but the measured result cannot represent the actual performance in practice because people usually change the incident angle in one plane (horizontal plane) and do not consider the other plane (vertical plane). Geometrical polarization rotation occurring at reduced F-number influences the measuring precision of s-polarization transmittance (Ts) and p-polarization reflectance (Rp). A more accurate and practical way to measure the performance of broadband, wide-angle PBS is presented in this paper. 展开更多

A novel optimal design of sub-wavelength metal rectangular gratings for the polarizing beam splitter (PBS) is proposed. The method is based on effective medium theory and the method of designing single layer antireflection coating. The polarization performance of PBS is discussed by rigorous couple-wave analysis (RCWA) method at a wavelength of 1550 nm. The result shows that sub-wavelength metal rectangular grating is characterized by a high reflectivity, like metal films for TE polarization, and high transmissivity, like dielectric films for TM polarization. The optimal design accords well with the results simulated by RCWA method. 展开更多

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are reported to act as effective adjuvants to elicit anti-tumor and anti-infection immunity. Here, we report that Hsp70-like protein 1 (Hsp70L1), a novel HSP derived from human dendritic cells (DCs), has potent adjuvant effects that polarize responses toward Th1. With a calculated molecular weight of 54.8 kDa, Hsp70L1 is smaller in size than Hsp70 but resembles it both structurally and functionally. Hsp70L1 shares common receptors on DCs with Hsp70 and can interact with DCs, promoting DC maturation and stimulating secretion of the proinflammatory cytokines interleukin 12p70 (IL-12p70), IL-1beta, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), and the chemokines IP-10, macrophage inflammatory protein-1alpha (MIP-1alpha), MIP-1beta, and normal T cell expressed and secreted (RANTES). The induction of interferon-gamma-inducible protein 10 (IP-10) secretion by Hsp70L1 is not shared by Hsp70, and other functional differences include more potent stimulation of DC IL-12p70, CC-chemokine, and CCR7 and CXCR4 expression by Hsp70L1. Immunization of mice with the hybrid peptide Hsp70L1-ovalbumin(OVA)(257-264) induces an OVA(257-264)-specific Th1 response and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) that results in significant inhibition of E.G7-OVA tumor growth. The ability of Hsp70L1 to activate DCs indicates its potential as a novel adjuvant for use with peptide immunizations; the Hsp70L1 antigen peptide hybrid may serve as a more effective vaccine for the control of cancer and infectious diseases. 展开更多

These films showed excellent polarizing ability. In addition, a neutral gray polarizing film was prepared by mixing synthesized dichromatic dyes with other dyes. The obtained polarizable film for gray shade was little pervious to light over the visible radiation wavelength region, ranging from 400nm to 700nm at cross state, and excellent in the polarizing activities and stable to moisture and heat. 展开更多

Polarizing beam splitter has rather significant applications in polarization diversity circuits and polarization multiplexing systems.In this paper,we present an asymmetric polarizing beam splitter utilizing hybrid plasmonic waveguide.The special hybrid structure with a hybrid waveguide and a dielectric waveguide can limit the energy of TE and TM modes to a different layer.Therefore,we can achieve beam splitting by adjusting the corresponding parameters of the two waveguides.First,we studied the influences of different structure parameters on the real part of the effective mode refractive index of the two waveguides,and obtained a set of parameters that satisfy the condition of strong coupling of TM mode and weak coupling of TE mode.Then,the performance of our proposed polarizing beam splitter is evaluated numerically.The length of the coupling section is only 4.1μm,and the propagation loss of TM and TE modes is 0.0025 d B/μm and 0.0031 d B/μm respectively.Additionally,the extinction ratios of TM and TE modes are 10.62 d B and 12.55 d B,respectively.Particularly,the proposed device has excellent wavelength insensitivity.Over the entire C-band,the fluctuation of the whole normalized output power is less than 0.03.In short,our proposed asymmetric polarizing beam splitter features ultra-compactness,low propagation loss,and broad bandwidth,which would provide promising applications in polarization multiplexing system and polarization diversity circuits relevant to optical interconnection. 展开更多

The transfer function of the optical splitting system of the acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTF) is deduced to be a reference to optical design. The characteristic matrix ( transfer function) of AOTF is used to describe quantitatively the characters of polarization elements in the orthogonal polarizing system. According to the characteristic matrix, the included angle of polarizer's transmission direction and polarization analyzer's transmission direction should be 90°. As a result the signal to noise ratio increased about 20 times though the light intensity was reduced to 54.3%,because both the transmittances of polarizer and polarization analyzer are 0. 74, which is an intrinsic character. The orthogonal polarizing method is an effective method to get rid of the influence of zero order light and improve the spectrum resolution and signal-to-noise ratio. 展开更多

A retrieval method of cloud top heights using polarizing remote sensing is proposed in this paper. Using the vector radiative transfer model in a coupled atmosphere-ocean system, the factors influencing the upwelling linear polarizing radiance at top-of-atmosphere are analyzed, which show that the upwelling linear polarizing radiance varies remarkably with the cloud top height, but has negligible sensitivity with cloud albedo and aerosol scattering above the cloud layer. Based on this property, a cloud top height retrieval algorithm using polarizing remote sensing was developed. The algorithm has been applied to the polarizing remote sensing data of Polarization and Directionality of the Earth's Reflectances-2 (POLDER-2). The retrieved cloud top height from POLDER-2 compares well with the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) operational product with a bias of 0.83 km and standard deviation of 1.56 km. 展开更多

AIM To investigate whether M1 or M2 polarization contributes to the therapeutic effects of mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) in acute hepatic failure(AHF).METHODS MSCs were transfused into rats with AHF induced by D-galactosamine(DGal N). The therapeutic effects of MSCs were evaluated based on survival rate and hepatocyte proliferation and apoptosis. Hepatocyte regeneration capacity was evaluated by the expression of the hepatic progenitor surface marker epithelial cell adhesion molecule(Ep CAM). Macrophage polarization was analyzed by M1 markers [CD68,tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α),interferon-γ(IFN-γ),inducible nitric oxide synthase(INOS)] and M2 markers [CD163,interleukin(IL)-4,IL-10,arginase-1(Arg-1)] in the survival and death groups after MSC transplantation.RESULTS The survival rate in the MSC-treated group was increased compared with the DPBS-treated control group(37.5% vs 10%). MSC treatment protected rats with AHF by reducing apoptotic hepatocytes and promoting hepatocyte regeneration. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that MSC treatment significantly increased the expression of Ep CAM compared with the control groups(P < 0.001). Expression of Ep CAM in the survival group was significantly up-regulated compared with the death group after MSC transplantation(P = 0.003). Transplantation of MSCs significantly improved the expression of CD163 and increased the gene expression of IL-10 and Arg-1 in the survival group. IL-4 concentrations were significantly increased compared to the death group after MSC transplantation(88.51 ± 24.51 pg/m L vs 34.61 ± 6.6 pg/m L,P < 0.001). In contrast,macrophages showed strong expression of CD68,TNF-α,and INOS in the death group. The concentration of IFN-γ was significantly increased compared to the survival group after MSC transplantation(542.11 ± 51.59 pg/m L vs 104.07 ± 42.80 pg/m L,P < 0.001).CONCLUSION M2 polarization contributes to the therapeutic effects of MSCs in AHF by altering levels of anti-inflammatory and pro-inflammatory factors. 展开更多

In the present work, for the first time on the basis ofpoly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA), 2- (4-dimethylaminostyryl)-l-ethylquinolinium iodide (quinaldine red (QR)) and trisodium (4E)-5-oxo- 1-(4-sulfonatophenyl)-4-[(4-sulfonatophenyl)hydrazono]-3 pyrazolecarboxylate (tartrazine (T)), thermostable polarizing film in a wide range of spectra (λmax=394-511 nm) with polarization efficiency (PE) = 98% in absorption maximum and stretching degree (Rs) = 3.5 was developed. The basic spectral-polarization parameters (polarization efficiency and transmittance) of oriented colored PVA-films were measured and discussed. During the work it was found that oriented PVA-films are the phenomenon of anisotropy of thermal conductivity (λ|/λ⊥). It is a very important parameter for the development of thermostable PVA-polarizing films. For the first time quantum-chemical calculations using density functional theory (DFT) approach for structural analysis and electronic spectrum of the QR were carried out via the B3LYP/dgdzvp and TDB3LYP/dgdzvp methods. Interpretation of absorption strips in visible region of spectrum was also reported. The excitation energies, electronic transitions and oscillator strengths for the studied structures have also been calculated (B3LYP/dgdzvp). The NBO analysis and Mulliken atomic charges of the QR were carried out. 展开更多

Electronic absorption bands of conjugated linear carbon chain molecules, namely polyynes H(C≡C)nH (n=5-7), are exploited to devise light-polarizing films applicable to the UV. Laser ablated polyynes are separated in size and dispersed in a film of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), which is stretched to align the trapped linear polyyne molecules inside. As a nature of the structural anisotropy, transition dipole of the UV absorption for polyyne molecules is in parallel with the molecular axis and the absorption occurs only for the electromagnetic wave having the amplitude of its electric vector along the molecular axis. Aligned and fixed orientationally in the solid PVA film, polyyne molecules act as selective absorbers of one of the polarization components of incident light at particular wavelength. Using a light source of linearly polarized UV light, whose direction of polarization is rotatable, angular dependence of the absorption intensity is investigated for the stretched PVA film containing aligned polyyne molecules and analyzed in terms of an order parameter in the theory of linear dichroism. 展开更多

Existence of linear polarization,formed by anisotropic scattering in the photosphere,has been demonstrated observationally as well as theoretically and is called second solar spectrum(SSS).The SSS is distinguished by its structure,which is rich in terms of information.In order to analyze the SSS,it is necessary to evaluate the(de)polarizing effect of isotropic collisions between CN solar molecules and electrons or neutral hydrogen atoms.This work is dedicated to calculations of the polarization transfer rates associated with CN-electron isotropic collisions.We show that usual rates serve as a proxy for polarization transfer rates.Then,we take advantage of available usual excitation collisional rates obtained via sophisticated quantum methods in order to derive the polarization transfer rates for the X^2Σ+-B^2Σ+(violet) and X^2Σ+-A^2Π(red) systems of CN.Our approach is based on the infinite order sudden(IOS)approximation and can be applied for other solar molecules.We discuss the effectiveness of collisions with electrons on the SSS of the CN lines.Our results contribute to reducing the degree of complication in modeling the formation of the SSS of CN. 展开更多

The pseudo-quaternary phase diagram of Brij35/sodium oleate/oleic acid/watersystems has been investigated, and the liquid crystal area has been identified, which covers abouttwo thirds of the whole phase diagram. The liquid crystal structure and behavior have been alsostudied by using polarizing texture, small angle X-ray scattering, ~2H-NMR and rheometer etc. Theresult shows that when the composition of the system changes along the line of AA′ in this largeliquid crystal region, the structural change iscubic→cubic/lamellar→lamellar→larnellar/hexagonal→hexagonal. Meanwhile, we made the firstattempt of systematic study of the rheological properties of the above system. The lattice constantsof cubic and hexagonal liquid crystals are 10.53 and 5.68 nm, respectively. 展开更多

6G预期会承载虚拟现实(VR)、生成式人工智能(GenAI)等需要大数据量、沉浸式体验的业务。作为一个全球统一的移动通信标准,6G将会有超过十年的商用周期,期间会出现一些目前还没有问世的新兴应用,将对极致连接有更高的需求。根据ITU的建议... 6G预期会承载虚拟现实(VR)、生成式人工智能(GenAI)等需要大数据量、沉浸式体验的业务。作为一个全球统一的移动通信标准,6G将会有超过十年的商用周期,期间会出现一些目前还没有问世的新兴应用,将对极致连接有更高的需求。根据ITU的建议,6G峰值数据速率需要在5G信道编码的基础上至少有10到20倍的提升,这就需要在6G提出新的编译码方案,或基于现有编码方案进行演进。为此,探讨了沉浸式通信对信道编译码的需求,阐述了对于未来峰值速率场景,需要进一步降低译码复杂度,降低功耗。然后,基于现有Polar码和LDPC码方案给出了比较,揭示Polar码在低复杂度区间具有更优的纠错性能。进一步提出了增强的高吞吐Polar编译码方案,并对它们的译码效率进行了理论分析。 展开更多

Ischemic stroke is a cerebrovascular disease associated with high mortality and disability rates. Since the inflammation and immune response play a central role in driving ischemic damage, it becomes essential to modulate excessive inflammatory reactions to promote cell survival and facilitate tissue repair around the injury site. Various cell types are involved in the inflammatory response, including microglia, astrocytes, and neutrophils, each exhibiting distinct phenotypic profiles upon stimulation. They display either proinflammatory or anti-inflammatory states, a phenomenon known as ‘cell polarization.’ There are two cell polarization therapy strategies. The first involves inducing cells into a neuroprotective phenotype in vitro, then reintroducing them autologously. The second approach utilizes small molecular substances to directly affect cells in vivo. In this review, we elucidate the polarization dynamics of the three reactive cell populations(microglia, astrocytes, and neutrophils) in the context of ischemic stroke, and provide a comprehensive summary of the molecular mechanisms involved in their phenotypic switching. By unraveling the complexity of cell polarization, we hope to offer insights for future research on neuroinflammation and novel therapeutic strategies for ischemic stroke. 展开更多
