An Integration of Meaning-Focused and Form-Focused Approach in EFL Reading and Writing——a Conceptual Inquiry and Experiment

Whether to adopt the meaning-oriented or form-oriented approach in EFL teaching has been in hot academic debate in the past decades. This paper investigates the literature contribution on these two methods, attempts an integration of the two,and introduces a teaching experiment of EFL reading and writing at China Agricultural University.

＂Flipped Class Mode＂ Applied to Reading and Writing Class With WeChat APP

With the development of computer, technology way of language teaching has experienced great changes. In the past, the methods of language teaching mainly focus on the direct method, the grammar-translation, audio-lingual, the structure approach, communicative language teaching, community language learning, task-based language learning, etc. These methods start and develop with the need and application of some theories. At the present time, the computer is widely used in every field and the Internet is compulsory of daily life, especially more and more students use the WeChat APP. So the way of teaching language is changing accordingly. This paper is to analyze the new way of language teaching, the flipped class model, and how it is used with WeChat APP. The first part is the general introduction of the flipped class model, the second part is the application of the flipped class model to reading and writing classes, and the third part is the use of WeChat APP in the cell phone.

An Innovative Teaching Approach for Decreasing Anxiety and Enhancing Performance in L2 Reading and Writing

Research has shown that L2 （second/foreign language） learners with higher anxiety tend to have weaker L2 reading and writing performance. This paper presents an innovative approach of teaching： the combination of extensive reading and writing blogs, which aims at reducing students＇ anxiety and promoting students＇ performance in L2 reading and writing. It also discusses the theoretical framework that supports the use of extensive reading and the reasons for using blogs as writing tools. Relative research on extensive reading and the use of blogs is synthesized. A design for one course that showcases the innovation is also presented. Finally, some suggestions are provided for teachers to help teachers successfully implement the innovative practices.

Validity Study on the Test Paper of the Academic English Reading and Writing Course

The aim of this study is to conduct the validity analysis of the test paper of the academic English reading and writing course referring to the freshmen of non-English majors in a university of Technology in Shanghai.The validity is mainly analyzed from these three aspects:the content and construct validity,the reaction process,and the internal structure of the test paper.And the principles of language assessment in the design of the test paper are given in this study.The validity study was also conducted in a class with 42 freshmen,and the scores of them were analyzed through the internal correlation coefficient from Statistic Package for Social Science(SPSS)25.0.Finally,the validity of the test paper is concluded.

Web Quest and EFL Critical Reading and Writing

This study aimed at investigating the effect of using a Web Quest program on developing some EFL critical reading and writing skills of the first year experimental secondary school students. The participants of the study were 60 students from one of the Experimental Secondary Schools in Egypt. Instruments of the study were EFL critical reading and writing tests. Students in both the experimental and the control groups were pre-tested using the critical reading test and the writing test. Then, students of the experimental group were using Web Quest. Finally, students in both groups were post-tested using the same instruments. The study showed that there was statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the pre and the post critical reading test and writing test of the experimental group in favor of the post tests. This difference can be attributed to using Web Quest.

＂Reading and Writing Assessment＂： An Effective Model of the Student-based Education

Student-based education is a teaching method targeted in students＇ willingness to learn. Teachers must not only know how to change their teaching philosophy, more importantly, to explore the specific implementation methods in practice. ＂Reading and Writing Assessment＂ can effectively reflect this teaching philosophy. Students, in the whole learning process, through independent reading, writing, communication and evaluation, can achieve active learning and creative learning, It is proved that this is a good way of teaching.

TEXTLINGUISTICS AND THE TEACHING OF READING AND WRITING

Cohesion, coherence and controlling are the three main features of a text. Cohesion is the system of formal visible markers, which manifest the semantic relations between sentences. Coherence lies in the deep structure of a text. It refers to the complex non-linear notional-functional relations behind the linear sequences of words or sentences. Controlling is an intuitive semantic key-link, which lies on the topmost level in the hierarchical representation of a text. This thesis attempts to bring these textlinguistic theories in contact with practical issues in language teaching, especially in the teaching of reading and writing. The authors believe that their explorations of the implications of textlinguistie theories on ELT will arouse the interest of other language teachers and meanwhile give them new ideas for their language teaching.

The Practice of ＂Flipped classroom＂ in the Reading and Writing Course of College English

The reform of college English should focus on the ways to improve the practicing ability. This ability should be based on the improvement of students, which is the fundamental aim of reform on the college English. In order to cope with this problem, ＂flipped classroom＂has many advantages. By Giving definitions to the ＂flipped classroom＂, this dissertation analyzed the differences between the regular class and the ＂flipped classroom＂ and carried out a new way to improve the reading and writing course： we can take advantage of multimedia and new internet technology.

The Connotation, Characteristics and the Enlightenments of Emergency Literacy--Be based on the curriculum of early literacy in China

Reading and writing germination thought is the most popular early reading and writing thought in the world. The children who are formed are learning to read and write in their lives. Children are the active learners of reading and writing. Children learn to read and write is a kind of social process and reading. And the development of the interrelatedness of writing, it demands that the early reading and writing course of children have four characteristics active curriculum orientation, integrated curriculum content, infiltration curriculum implementation and meaningful reading and writing environment. The Chinese current kindergarten read-write curriculum develops should respect the baby language law of development, fulfills the initiative construction the curriculum orientation that makes uniform baby’s read-write experience, the curriculum content link baby lives the world and the building interaction read-write scene, the establishment has the significance language environment.

A Reflection on a Teaching Practice

The present paper is a reflection on a teaching practice which employed second language acquisition(SLA) theories and teaching methodologies. The students taught were second-year non-English majors from X university and the course book used was New Horizon College English: Reading and Writing(3 rd edition). SLA theories involved include Input Hypothesis, Noticing Hypothesis and Comprehensible Output Hypothesis; teaching methodologies applied include Grammar-Translation Method,Communicative Language Teaching and Task Based Language Teaching(TBLT). After a semester-long teaching practice, the present reflection was completed after a deep discussion with the teacher. Students description, teaching process, and merits and demerits of this practice were illustrated.
