In the early 20 thcentury, India is under the British colonial rule and Indians suffer a lot from it. India lacks autonomy and there is a wide racial gap between the British and Indians. In this context, Adela has deeply-rooted prejudice against Indians at first, whose discrimination makes her falsely accuse Aziz of attempting to rape her. However, merging into the Indian society gives Adela a chance to see the goodness of Indians, and finally her racial prejudice is eliminated.展开更多

Because of his lower class status, a passion for salvation arose in Mozi was at first emphasized in "universal love," "identification with the superior," and "will of heaven," and then was later realized in the spirit of Shi Mo 仕墨, or Moist officials, who were impartial and incorruptible in the execution of their duties. When the officials became frustrated by the despotic powers, their passion then evolved into a spirit of Xia Mo 侠墨, or Moist knights, who never hesitated in helping people and upholding justice. And when Moist knights were finally rooted out by despotic powers, the only choice for Moists was to become Bian Mo 辩墨, or Moist sophists, specialists in "Major Illustration" ("Daqu" 大取 ) and "Minor Illustration" ("Xiaoqu" 小取). This development, however, ran contrary to its primary ideal. Still, both the impartial and incorruptible Moist officials and the righteous and courageous Moist knights represented an expectation deep inside people's minds. Therefore, whenever social injustice worsened to a certain degree, the populist spirit of Moism was picked up as a weapon of critique. Thus, the actualization and evolution of this passion for salvation offers a constant mirror for populist thinking.展开更多

[Method] 20 random primers were used for PCR amplification of genomic DNA of 36 individuals of V. salvator. [Result] 10 primers could produce highly reproducible RAPD bands. A total of 2 952 DNA fragments were successfully amplified. Each individual got 82 amplified bands on average,47 of which showed polymorphism. The polymorphic locus percent was 57.32%. The genetic distance among 36 individuals ranged from 0.035 9 to 0.335 9 with an average of 0.135 9. The Nei's gene diversity index (H) and Shannon's information index (I) were 0.181 9 and 0.263 0,respectively,indicating that V. salvator had greater genetic diversity. [Conclusion] The phylogenetic tree was inferred by using UPGMA analysis,it was found that the 36 individuals could be classified as one group, and there was no obvious population differentiation.展开更多

All the characters appearing in this novel belonged to this breed, living in the never-never land of a new continent devoid of the conventional forces' intervention. More specifically, Calvinism was the domineering religion whose core principles are the sacred pre-determinism and the omnipotence of God, requiring every earthly individual should obey this providence and be self-denied. The Scarlet Letter, a masterpiece of American prestigious writer Nathaniel Hawthorne, was delicately set in such a benighted epoch and manifested a gorgeous portrait of personality constituted by both discreetly religious conformity and spiritual liberty. In the twentieth century, Hawthorne and The Scarlet Letter have continued to grow in esteem as literary criticism moved into university English departments and through waves of Freudians, semiologists, deconstructionists, and postmodernists (Bruce Daniels, 2004). The eccentrically intertwined relationship among the three protagonists has been highly appreciated as an imperishable paragon, which was always been imitated but seldom surpassed. This passage aims to deconstruct the protagonists'personalities from a general perspective展开更多

From a flower in the rainy night to a flower having a place in the garden, Pai-mei saves herself in the only way possible to her-giving birth to a child. When her profession deprives her of the dignity as a woman, she wins back people’s respect by becoming a mother. My paper is a textural analysis on how the symbols of flowers are used in the short story and how Pai-mei’s salvation is accomplished.展开更多

Both defend the need for a God who saves man: according to Anselm, due to the consequences of evil, which man consented and cannot revert;according to Heidegger, due to the consequences of technicity, which man created and can no longer control. In any case, the design of salvation posits the question of man: Why man? This question was considered ever since the remote 12th century, in a time of renovation for European culture, and is once again posited with special acuteness in our days, in a time of accelerated technological progress of human civilization. Which is why Anselm’s reflection around salvation and the medieval question of man may open doors towards re-equating the value of man in its actual state and in the future horizon of humanity?展开更多

Applying the procedure to the well-investigated intramoleeular electron transfer in biphenyl-androstane-naphthyl and biphenyl-androstane-phenanthryl systems, the numerical results of solvent reorganization energy were determined to be around 60 k J/mol, in good agreement with experimental data. Koopman's theorem was adopted for the calculation of the electron transfer coupling element, associated with the linear reaction coordinate approximation. The values for this quantity obtained are acceptable when compared with experimental results.展开更多
