Methods A prospective cohort study was conducted among 2,589 participants from June 2002 to July 2012 in Inner Mongolia, China. The participants were categorized into 4 groups according to their level of ABSI and CRP. Cox proportional hazards models were used to assess the hazard ratios(HRs) and 95% confidence intervals(CIs) for ischemic stroke among all groups. Results The multivariate adjusted HRs(95% CI) of ischemic stroke for high ABSI and high CRP level were 1.46(0.89-2.39) and 1.63(0.95-2.79), respectively. Compared with the low ABSI/low CRP level group, the multivariate adjusted HRs(95% CI) of ischemic stroke in the low ABSI/high CRP, high ABSI/low CRP, and high ABSI/high CRP groups were 1.04(0.46-2.35), 1.06(0.58-1.95) and 2.52(1.27-5.00), respectively. The HR of ischemic stroke for the high ABSI/high CRP level group was the highest and most statistically significant. Conclusion We found that participants with simultaneously high ABSI and high CRP levels had the highest risk of ischemic stroke in the Mongolian population. Our findings suggest that the combination of high ABSI and high CRP levels may increase the risk of ischemic stroke.展开更多

Serum CRP was measured by nephelometry within 72 h after index ischemic stroke. A lesion was considered a plaque in the presence of a maximum intimal-medial wall thickness (IMT) 1.2 mm. Results of carotid ultrasonography were divided into two groups: M1, normal (IMT <1.2 mm) and M2, abnormal (IMT ≥1.2 mm). The results showed that the mean age of M2 was significantly older than that of M1 (69.7±10.4 versus 62.5±9.6, P =0.001). The patients with hypertension and diabetes mellitus (78 %, 35 % respectively)in M2 were significantly more than those (52 %, 18 % respectively) in M1 ( P <0.01, P <0.05). There were 32 (65 % ) patients with elevated CRP levels in M2, but 33 (46 %) patients with elevated CRP levels in M1, with the difference being significant between the two groups ( P <0.05). The levels of serum glucose and leukocyte count (8.1±5.5, 10.3±4.0, respectively) in abnormal CRP group were significantly higher than that of normal CRP group (6.4±2.8, 8.7±3.4) ( P <0.05, P <0.05); elevated CRP levels was found in 42 (62 %) patients with territory infarction and 23 (43 %) patients with lacunar infarction respectively, with the difference being significant between these two groups ( P <0.05). It was concluded that the elevation of CRP levels was an significant clinical index for carotid plaque in patients with acute cerebral infarction.展开更多

There were 31 males and 23 females, and their ages ranged from 56 to 80 years. All patients met the diagnostic criteria of the Fourth National Cerebrovascular Academic Meeting, were finally diagnosed by using CT examination, and provided the confirmed consent. Based on therapeutic demands, patients were divided into electric stimulation group and routine treatment group with 27 cases in each group. In addition, 21 healthy subjects, including 11 males and 10 females and aging 53 - 78 years, were selected as the control group. All the subjects in the control group did not have any histories of cerebrovascular diseases and severe body diseases.METHODS: Based on routine drug therapy, patients in the electric stimulation group were also treated by using CVFT-010M cerebral circulation function therapeutic device (made in Shanghai). Electrode was fixed at bilateral mastoid in the first group and at extensible sides of upper limbs in the second group. Electric stimulation was given twice a day and lasted for 30 minutes each time. Ten days were regarded as a course.Parameters of device: mode Ⅲ, frequency 198%, and intensity 90% - 110% (bionic current). Patients in the routine treatment group received the routine drug treatment. Content of serum C-reactive protein was measured in both electric stimulation group and routine treatment group before treatment and at 20 days after treatment, while in the control group on the exact day of health examination by using immunization.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Level of serum C-reactive protein in the three groups.RESULTS: All 54 patients with acute cerebral infarction and 21 healthy subjects were involved in the final analysis. Level of serum C-reactive protein was higher in both electric stimulation group and routine treatment group than that in the control group before treatment (P 〈 0.01). While, level of serum C-reactive protein was lower in the electric stimulation group than that in the routine treatment group after electric stimulation at cerebellar fastigial nucleus (P 〈 0.01).CONCLUSION: Electric stimulation at cerebellar fastigial nucleus can decrease level of serum C-reactive protein in patients with acute cerebral infarction, and this may be one of the therapeutic mechanisms for curing acute cerebral infarction.展开更多

METHODS: We analysed risk factors for severe CDAD (associated with systemic signs of hypovolemia) in 124 hospitalised patients by retrospective chart review. RESULTS: Severe CDAD was present in 27 patients (22%). Statistical analysis showed a significant association with a higher 30-d mortality (33% vs 4%, P < 0.001) and a higher proportion of longer hospital stay exceeding 14 d (74% vs 52%, P = 0.048). Charlson co-morbidity score (OR 1.29 for 1 point increment, P < 0.05) and serum C-reactive protein at diagnosis (OR 1.15 for 10 mg/L increment, P < 0.001) were independent predictors of severe CDAD. CONCLUSION: Patients with a severe level of co- morbidity and high serum C-reactive protein levels at the time of diagnosis should receive particular attention.展开更多

Methods: This observational case study included 90 persons divided into 4 groups: group A of 30 normal persons (non diabetic) as a control group, group B of 30 diabetic patients without retinopathy, group C of 30 untreated patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and group D of the same patients of group C after 3 months of laser treatment by pan retinal photocoagulation (PRP). Serum CRP protein was measured in all groups, interpretation of results was applied. Results: The study revealed that serum CRP level increased significantly in patients with PDR (group C) in comparison to both groups of normal control persons (group A) and diabetic patients without retinopathy (group B) (P 0.05). Also the same finding was noticed in elderly patients above 50 years. Conclusion: CRP is considered a biomarker for PDR even in older age patients, but not a good indictor used for follow up patients after treatment.展开更多

The aim of ...Metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components have been linked to elevated serum levels of inflammatory biomarkers such as C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, interleukin-1β and tumor necrosis factor alpha. The aim of our study was to address the association between MetS components with serum hs-CRP and IL-6 levels among Congolese adults. A total of 357 participants (aged 30 - 87 years) were included in this cross-sectional study. Anthropometrics were collected and fasting blood sampled for assessment of fasting blood glycaemia (FBG), lipids and inflammatory parameters using commercially available assays. NCEP-ATPIII criteria were used to define MetS. The Median (IQR) hs-CRP and IL-6 levels were higher in participants with MetS than in those without ([7 (4, 14) versus 6 (4, 8)] mg/L;p = 0.092 and [23.8 (20.9, 27.6) versus 22.3 (19.5, 25.0)] pg/mL;p = 0.002). hs-CRP and IL-6 levels were significantly higher in females with MetS than in those without, but not in males. Among participants, only TG was correlated with hs-CRP (r = 0.149, p = 0.007), and a significant correlation was observed between TG (r = 0.116, p = 0.037), FBG (r = 0.208, p = 0.000), HDL-C (r = −0.119, p = 0.034) and SBP (r = 0.143, p = 0.010) and IL-6. In males, hs-CRP levels were positively correlated with TG (0.316;p = 0.000), negatively with HDL-C (r = −0.290, p = 0.0022), without such correlations in females. In Ames, IL-6 levels were positively correlated with FBG (r = 0.202;p = 0.035), and negatively with HDL-C (r = −0.249, p = 0.009). Significant correlations between IL-6 levels and FBG (r = 0.214;p = 0.000) or SBP (r = 0.227, p = 0.000) were observed in females. Logistic regression analysis was carried out to identify the relationship between MetS components and hs-CRP or IL-6. Values of area under receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curves suggest potential use of serum hs-CRP (AUC = 0.675) and IL-6 (AUC = 0.656) as diagnostic biomarkers of MetS. Combination of hs-CRP and IL-6 improved diagnosis accuracy, yielding a 0.698 ROC curve area. MetS components are associated with hs-CRP and IL-6 levels among adults Congolese. Combining the two biomarkers hs-CRP and IL-6 improves Mets diagnostic accuracy compared to hs-CRP or IL-6 alone.展开更多

In the present study, we aimed to investigate the association between circulating levels of high sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and various biomarkers for hepatic, diabetic, and cardiovascular health. The retrospective analysis included 438 individuals who were tested for these panels simultaneously at Vibrant America Clinical Laboratory. The study population included free-living individuals without any preexisting clinical conditions. Among the cardiovascular markers, a positive correlation and significant association was found between high levels of hs-CRP and serum levels of triglycerides (r = 0.0964, p −0.1423, p −0.1216, p < 0.0105) with circulating levels of hs-CRP. Among all the diabetic markers, glucose (r = 0.1547, p < 0.0011) and glycated serum protein (r = 0.1725, p < 0.0003) were positively correlated with circulating hs-CRP. In the hepatic panel, AST, a transaminase that plays a vital role in amino acid metabolism, was found to have a strong positive correlation with hs-CRP (r = 0.2139, p < 0.0001). In conclusion, the results clearly show the association of hs-CRP with diabetic, hepatic, and cardiovascular risk factors indicating its central value as a key marker for several lifestyle-associated disorders.展开更多

Repeated exacerbations cause disease progression. Therefore, identifying the onset of acute elderly asthma as soon as possible and giving the effective treatment is crucial to improve the prognosis. This study was to investigate the significance of fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) combined with serum procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) in the evaluation of elderly asthma. A total of 120 elderly patients with an acute attack of asthma from July, 2010 to May, 2012 were studied. On presentation, FeNO, serum PCT and CRP concentrations were measured and sputum culture was also performed. The elderly patients were re-evaluated when they had returned to their stable clinical state. The elderly patients were classified into two groups: positive bac- terial culture group (A) and negative bacterial culture group (B). The results showed that: (1) In patients with an acute exacerbation of asthma, 48 (40%) patients had positive sputum bacterial culture and 72 (60%) had negative sputum bacterial culture. (2) The levels of FeNO in patients with acute exacerbation of asthma were significantly higher than in those with no acute exacerbation state (63.8±24.6 vs. 19±6.5 ppb, P〈0.05). There was no significant difference in FeNO between group A and group B (P〉0.05). (3) The levels of PCT and CRP in group A patients with an acute exacerbation of asthma were significantly higher (P〈0.05) than in group B (for PCT: 27.46±9.32 vs. 7.85±3.52 ng/mL; for CRP: 51.25±11.46 vs. 17.11±5.87 mg/L, respectively). When they had returned to stable clinical state, the levels of PCT and CRP in group A were decreased significantly (P〈0.05), and those in group B had no significant change (P〉0.05) when compared with the exacerbation group. There were no significant differences in the levels of PCT and CRP between the two groups in non-acute exacerbation state (/9〉0.05). These results suggest that the increase in FeNO indicates the acute exacerbation of asthma, and the elevation of serum PCT and CRP levels may be associated with bacterial infection.展开更多

Carotid CEUS was performed preoperatively in 115 patients who would undergo CEA, and the enhancement degree of the carotid plaques was evaluated by both the visual semiquantitative analysis and the quantitative time-intensity curve analysis. Serum hs-CRP levels were detected using the particle-enhanced immunoturbidimetric assay also before the operation. Additionally, the carotid plaque samples were subjected to histopathological examination postoperatively. The density of neovessels and the number of macrophages in the plaques were assessed by immunohistochemistry. The results showed that among the 115 patients, grade 0 plaque contrast enhancement was noted in 35 patients, grade 1 in 48 patients and grade 2 in 32 patients. The degree of plaque enhancement, the density of neovessels, the number of macrophages, and the hs-CRP levels were highest in the grade 2 patients. Correlation analysis showed that the enhancement degree of the carotid plaques was closely related to the immunohistochemical parameters of the plaques and the serum hs-CRP levels. It was suggested that the carotid plaque enhancement on CEUS can be used to evaluate the vulnerability of carotid plaques.展开更多

文摘Objective We aimed to evaluate the combined effects of a high body shape index(ABSI) and a high serum C-reactive protein(CRP) level on the incidence of ischemic stroke in a Mongolian population in China. Our findings suggest that the combination of high ABSI and high CRP levels may increase the risk of ischemic stroke.
文摘In order to study the relationship between serum C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, leukocyte count and carotid plaque in patients with ischemic stroke, carotid duplex examination was performed by high-definition imaging (HDI) 5000 triplex system. It was concluded that the elevation of CRP levels was an significant clinical index for carotid plaque in patients with acute cerebral infarction.
文摘BACKGROUND: Some reports indicate that electric and/or chemical stimulation at various brain sites of experimental animals can raise regional cerebral blood flow and improve cerebral circulation; however, its mechanism is still unclear.OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of electric stimulation at cerebellar fastigial nucleus on serum C-reactive protein of patients with acute cerebral infarction.DESIGN: Non-randomized synchronized contrast study.SETTING: The Second People's Hospital of Xinxiang City.PARTICIPANTS: A total of 54 patients with acute cerebral infarction were selected from the Department of Neurology, the Second People's Hospital of Xinxiang from December 2005 to December 2006. While, level of serum C-reactive protein was lower in the electric stimulation group than that in the routine treatment group after electric stimulation at cerebellar fastigial nucleus (P 〈 0.01).CONCLUSION: Electric stimulation at cerebellar fastigial nucleus can decrease level of serum C-reactive protein in patients with acute cerebral infarction, and this may be one of the therapeutic mechanisms for curing acute cerebral infarction.

文摘BACKGROUND Colorectal anastomotic leakage(CAL)is one of the most dreaded complications after colorectal surgery, with an incidence that can be as high as 27%.This event is associated with increased morbidity and mortality;therefore, its early diagnosis is crucial to reduce clinical consequences and costs. Some biomarkers have been suggested as laboratory tools for the diagnosis of CAL.AIM To assess the usefulness of plasma C-reactive protein(CRP)and calprotectin(CLP)as early predictors of CAL.METHODS A prospective monocentric observational study was conducted including patients who underwent colorectal resection with anastomosis, from March 2017 to August 2019.Patients were divided into three groups:G1–no complications;G2–complications not related to CAL;and G3–CAL.Five biomarkers were measured and analyzed in the first 5 postoperative days(PODs),namely white blood cell(WBC)count, eosinophil cell count(ECC),CRP,CLP,and procalcitonin(PCT).Clinical criteria, such as abdominal pain and clinical condition, were also assessed. The correlation between biomarkers and CAL was evaluated.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve analysis was used to compare the accuracy of these biomarkers as predictors of CAL,and the area under the ROC curve(AUROC),specificity, sensitivity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value(NPV)during this period were estimated.RESULTS In total,25 of 396 patients developed CAL(6.3%),and the mean time for this diagnosis was 9.0±6.8 d.Some operative characteristics, such as surgical approach, blood loss, intraoperative complications, and duration of the procedure, were notably related to the development of CAL.The length of hospital stay was markedly higher in the group that developed CAL compared with the group with complications other than CAL and the group with no complications(median of 21 d vs 13 d and 7 d respectively;P<0.001).For abdominal pain, the best predictive performance was on POD4 and POD5,with the largest AUROC of 0.84 on POD4.Worsening of the clinical condition was associated with the diagnosis of CAL,presenting a higher predictive effect on POD5,with an AUROC of 0.9.WBC and ECC showed better predictive effects on POD5(AUROC=0.62 and 0.7,respectively).Those markers also presented a high NPV(94%-98%).PCT had the best predictive effect on POD5(AUROC=0.61),although it presented low accuracy. However, this biomarker revealed a high NPV on POD3,POD4,and POD5(96%,95%,and 96%,respectively).The mean CRP value on POD5 was significantly higher in the group that developed CAL compared with the group without complications(195.5±139.9 mg/L vs 59.5±43.4 mg/L;P<0.00001).On POD5,CRP had a NPV of 98%.The mean CLP value on POD3 was significantly higher in G3 compared with G1(5.26±3.58μg/mL vs 11.52±6.81μg/mL;P<0.00005).On POD3,the combination of CLP and CRP values showed a high diagnostic accuracy(AUROC=0.82),providing a 5.2 d reduction in the time to CAL diagnosis.CONCLUSION CRP and CLP are moderate predictors of CAL.However, the combination of these biomarkers presents an increased diagnostic accuracy, potentially decreasing the time to CAL diagnosis.
文摘AIM: To investigate risk factors for severe clostridium difficile associated diarrhoea (CDAD) in hospitalised patients. CONCLUSION: Patients with a severe level of co- morbidity and high serum C-reactive protein levels at the time of diagnosis should receive particular attention.

文摘Background:Elevated levels of serum C-reactive protein(CRP) have been reported to have prognostic significance in lung cancer patients. This study aimed to further identify CRP-bound components as prognostic markers for lung cancer and validate their prognostic value.Methods:CRP-bound components obtained from the serum samples from lung cancer patients or healthy controls were analyzed by differential proteomics analysis.CRP-bound serum amyloid A(CRP-SAA) was evaluated by coimmunoprecipitation(IP).Serum samples from two independent cohorts with lung cancer(retrospective cohort,242patients;prospective cohort,222 patients) and healthy controls(159 subjects) were used to evaluate the prognostic value of CRP-SAA by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.Results:CRP-SAA was identified specifically in serum samples from lung cancer patients by proteomic analysis.CRP binding to SAA was confirmed by co-IP in serum samples from lung cancer patients and cell culture media. The level of CRP-SAA was significantly higher in patients than in healthy controls(0.37 ± 0.58 vs.0.03 ± 0.04,P < 0.001).Elevated CRP-SAA levels were significantly associated with severe clinical features of lung cancer. The elevation of CRPSAA was associated with lower survival rates for both the retrospective(hazard ration[HR]= 2.181,95%confidence interval[CI]= 1.641-2.897,P < 0.001) and the prospective cohorts(HR = 2.744,95%CI = 1.810-4.161,P < 0.001).Multivariate Cox analysis showed that CRP-SAA was an independent prognostic marker for lung cancer.Remarkably,in stages l-ll patients, only CRP-SAA,not total SAA or CRP,showed significant association with overall survival in two cohorts. Moreover, univariate and multivariate Cox analyses also showed that only CRP-SAA could be used as an independent prognostic marker for early-stage lung cancer patients.Conclusion:CRP-SAA could be a better prognostic marker for lung cancer than total SAA or CRP,especially in earlystage patients.
文摘Purpose: To study the factors influencing sputum smear conversion including Serum C-Reactive Protein (CRP) and its correlation with disease severity in tuberculosis patients. Method: Levels of Serum-CRP concentrations were deter-mined in 60 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, 30 healthy volunteers and patients in follow-up after completion of antitubercular treatment (DOTS therapy). Results: Serum-CRP levels were found to be significantly higher in smear-positive group as compared with the follow-up patients and smear-negative control group. The values were 43.65 ± 23.68, 9.88 ± 5.23 and 4.04 ± 3.85 mg/L respectively (P Conclusion: Serum-CRP levels are significantly correlated with disease severity in patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis. 文摘Purpose: To study the role of C-reactive protein (CRP) in the progression of diabetic retinopathy before and after treatment to determine if it can be used as a biomarker for progression or regression. Conclusion: CRP is considered a biomarker for PDR even in older age patients, but not a good indictor used for follow up patients after treatment.
文摘BACKGROUND Affective disorders(AD)have been linked to inflammatory processes, although the underlying mechanisms of this relationship are still not fully elucidated. It is hypothesized that demographic, somatic, lifestyle, and personality variables predict inflammatory parameters in AD.AIM To identify biopsychosocial factors contributing to inflammation in AD measured with two parameters,C-reactive protein(CRP)and leukocytes.METHODS This observational study investigated 186 hospital inpatients diagnosed with AD using demographic parameters, serum inflammatory markers, somatic variables, psychological questionnaires, and lifestyle parameters.Hierarchical regression analyses were used to predict inflammatory markers from demographic, somatic, lifestyle, and personality variables.RESULTS Analyses showed that 33.8%of the variance of CRP was explained by body mass index and other somatic medication(e.g.anti-diabetics),age and education, and age of affective disorder diagnosis. For leukocytes,20.1%of the variance was explained by smoking, diet, metabolic syndrome(MetS),and anti-inflammatory medication(e.g.non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).Other psychiatric or behavioural variables did not reach significance.CONCLUSION Metabolic components seem important, with mounting evidence for a metabolic affective disorder subtype.Lifestyle modifications and psychoeducation should be employed to prevent or treat MetS in AD.

文摘BACKGROUND Over the years, programmed cell death-1(PD-1)inhibitors have been routinely used for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)treatment and yielded improved survival outcomes.Nonetheless, significant heterogeneity surrounds the outcomes of most studies. Therefore,it is critical to search for biomarkers that predict the efficacy of PD-1 inhibitors in patients with HCC.AIM To investigate the role of the C-reactive protein to albumin ratio(CAR)in evaluating the efficacy of PD-1 inhibitors for HCC.METHODS The clinical data of 160 patients with HCC treated with PD-1 inhibitors from January 2018 to November 2022 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University were retrospectively analyzed.RESULTS The optimal cut-off value for CAR based on progression-free survival(PFS)was determined to be 1.20 using x-tile software.Cox proportional risk model was used to determine the factors affecting prognosis.Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status[hazard ratio(HR)=1.754,95%confidence interval(95%CI)=1.045-2.944,P=0.033],CAR(HR=2.118,95%CI=1.057-4.243,P=0.034)and tumor number(HR=2.932,95%CI=1.246-6.897,P=0.014)were independent prognostic factors for overall survival.CAR(HR=2.730,95%CI=1.502-4.961,P=0.001),tumor number(HR=1.584,95%CI=1.003-2.500,P=0.048)and neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio(HR=1.120,95%CI=1.022-1.228,P=0.015)were independent prognostic factors for PFS.Two nomograms were constructed based on independent prognostic factors. The C-index index and calibration plots confirmed that the nomogram is a reliable risk prediction tool. The ROC curve and decision curve analysis confirmed that the nomogram has a good predictive effect as well as a net clinical benefit.CONCLUSION Overall,we reveal that the CAR is a potential predictor of short-and long-term prognosis in patients with HCC treated with PD-1 inhibitors. If further verified,CAR-based nomogram may increase the number of markers that predict individualized prognosis.
文摘BACKGROUND Neonatal sepsis,a formidable threat to newborns,is a leading cause of neonatal mortality, with late-onset sepsis manifesting after 72 hours post-birth being particularly concerning.Pneumonia,a prevalent sepsis presentation, poses a significant risk, especially during the neonatal phase when lung defenses are compromised.Accurate diagnosis of pneumonia is imperative for timely and effective interventions.Saliva,a minimally invasive diagnostic medium, holds great promise for evaluating infections, especially in infants.AIM To investigate the potential of serum C-reactive protein(CRP),salivary CRP(sCRP),and mean platelet volume(MPV)as diagnostic markers for late-onset neonatal pneumonia(LONP).METHODS Eighty full-term neonates were systematically examined, considering anthropometric measurements, clinical manifestations, radiology findings, and essential biomarkers, including serum CRP,sCRP,and MPV.RESULTS The study reveals noteworthy distinctions in serum CRP levels,MPV,and the serum CRP/MPV ratio between neonates with LONP and healthy controls.MPV exhibited a robust discriminatory ability[area under the curve(AUC)=0.87]with high sensitivity and specificity at a cutoff value of>8.8.Correlations between serum CRP,sCRP,and MPV were also identified.Notably,sCRP demonstrated excellent predictive value for serum CRP levels(AUC=0.89),underscoring its potential as a diagnostic tool.CONCLUSION This study underscores the diagnostic promise of salivary and serum biomarkers, specifically MPV and CRP,in identifying and predicting LONP among neonates. These findings advocate for further research to validate their clinical utility in larger neonatal cohorts.
文摘Metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components have been linked to elevated serum levels of inflammatory biomarkers such as C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, interleukin-1β and tumor necrosis factor alpha. Combining the two biomarkers hs-CRP and IL-6 improves Mets diagnostic accuracy compared to hs-CRP or IL-6 alone.

文摘Objective C-reactive protein(CRP)/albumin ratio(CAR)is a new inflammation-based index for predicting the prognosis of various diseases. The CAR determined on admission may help to predict the prognostic value of multiple trauma patients. Methods A total of 264 adult patients with severe multiple trauma were included for the present retrospective study, together with the collection of relevant clinical and laboratory data.CAR,CRP,albumin, shock index and ISS were incorporated into the prognostic model, and the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve was drawn. Then, the shock index for patients with different levels of CAR was analyzed. Finally, univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify the independent risk factors for the 28-day mortality of multiple trauma patients. Results A total of 36 patients had poor survival outcomes, and the mortality rate reached 13.6%.Furthermore,after analyzing the shock index for patients with different levels of CAR,it was revealed that the shock index was significantly higher when CAR was≥4,when compared to CAR<2 and 2≤CAR<4,in multiple trauma patients. The multivariate logistic analysis helped to identify the independent association between the variables CAR(P=0.029)and shock index(P=0.019),and the 28-day mortality of multiple trauma patients. Conclusion CAR is higher in patients with severe multiple trauma.Furthermore,CAR serves as a risk factor for independently predicting the 28-day mortality of multiple trauma patients. The shock index was significantly higher when CAR was≥4 in multiple trauma patients.
文摘BACKGROUND Complement overactivation is a major driver of lupus nephritis(LN).Impaired interactions of C-reactive protein(CRP)with complement factor H(CFH)have been shown as a pathogenic mechanism that contributes to the overactivation of complement in LN.However, genetic variations of neither CRP nor CFH show consistent influences on the risk of LN.AIM To examine whether genetic variations of CRP and CFH in combination can improve the risk stratification in Chinese population.METHODS We genotyped six CRP single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)(rs1205,rs3093062,rs2794521,rs1800947,rs3093077,and rs1130864)and three CFH SNPs(rs482934,rs1061170,and rs1061147)in 270 LN patients and 303 healthy subjects.RESULTS No linkage was found among CRP and CFH SNPs,indicating lack of genetic interactions between the two genes. Moreover,CRP and CFH SNPs,neither individually nor in combination, are associated with the risk or clinical manifestations of LN.Given the unambiguous pathogenic roles of the two genes.CONCLUSION These findings suggest that the biological effects of most genetic variations of CRP and CFH on their expressions or activities are not sufficient to influence the disease course of LN.
文摘Biomarkers are early predictors of various disorders, circulating level of C-reactive protein is a sensitive biomarker of systemic inflammation and may also be associated with the development of diabetic, hepatic, and cardiovascular diseases. In conclusion, the results clearly show the association of hs-CRP with diabetic, hepatic, and cardiovascular risk factors indicating its central value as a key marker for several lifestyle-associated disorders.

文摘Bronchial asthma is a common chronic airway inflammatory disease. Asthma is associated with high mortality, especially in the elderly patients. These results suggest that the increase in FeNO indicates the acute exacerbation of asthma, and the elevation of serum PCT and CRP levels may be associated with bacterial infection.

文摘BACKGROUND Prompt and effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR)can promote the recovery of spontaneous circulation to some extent and can save patients’lives. The minimum target of cardiac resuscitation is the restoration of spontaneous circulation(ROSC).However, owing to prolonged sudden cardiac arrest, there is relatively high mortality within 24 h after cardiac resuscitation. Moreover, severe cerebral anoxia can deteriorate the prognosis of patients. Therefore,it is important to adopt an effective clinical evaluation of acute myocardial infarct(AMI)patients’prognosis after cardiac resuscitation for the purpose of prevention and management.AIM To investigate early CPR effects on human myeloperoxidase(MPO),soluble ST2(sST2),and hypersensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP)levels in AMI patients.METHODS In total,54 patients with cardiac arrest caused by AMI in our hospital were selected as the observation group, and 50 other patients with AMI were selected as the control group. The differences in serum levels of MPO,sST2,and hs-CRP between the observation group and the control group were tested, and the differences in the serum levels of MPO,sST2,and hs-CRP in ROSC and non-ROSC patients, and in patients who died and in those who survived, were analyzed.RESULTS Serum levels of MPO,sST2,hs-CRP,lactic acid, creatine kinase isoenzyme(CKMB),and cardiac troponin I(cTnI)were significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05).Serum levels of MPO,sST2,hs-CRP,lactic acid,CK-MB,and cTnI in the observation group were lower after CPR than before CPR(P<0.05).In the observation group,MPO,sST2,hs-CRP,lactic acid,CK-MB,and cTnI serum levels were lower in ROSC patients than in non-ROSC patients(P<0.05).MPO,sST2,hs-CRP,and lactic acid serum levels of patients who died in the observation group were higher than those of patients who survived(P<0.05).The areas under receiver operating characteristic curve predicted by MPO,sST2,hs-CRP,lactic acid,CK-MB,and cTnI were 0.616,0.681,0.705,0.704,0.702,and 0.656,respectively(P<0.05).The areas under receiver operating characteristic curve for MPO,SST2,hs-CRP,and lactic acid to predict death were 0.724,0.800,0.689,and 0.691,respectively(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that MPO,sST2,and hs-CRP were the influencing factors of ROSC[odds ratios=1.667,1.589,and 1.409,P<0.05],while MPO,sST2,hs-CRP,and lactic acid were the influencing factors of death(odds ratios=1.624,1.525,1.451,and 1.365,P<0.05).CONCLUSION Serum levels of MPO,sST2,hs-CRP,and lactic acid have a certain value in predicting recovery and prognosis of patients with ROSC.

文摘This study was undertaken to investigate the correlation of the enhancement degree on contrast-enhanced ultrasound(CEUS) with the histopathology of carotid plaques and the serum high sensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP) levels in patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy(CEA). It was suggested that the carotid plaque enhancement on CEUS can be used to evaluate the vulnerability of carotid plaques.
