The effects of the tempering condition on toughness, microstructure, size and distribution of precipitates of X80 pipeline steel were observed using a metallographic microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Compared with the samples prepared via traditional tempering techniques, results show that the samples prepared via rapid induction tempering had improved performances. When the heating temperature is 590 ℃, at a holding time of 90 s,it was found that acicular ferrite was refined, carbonite precipitation was small, and precipitates were evenly distributed in the matrix. The low-temperature impact energy, also known as the impact absorption energy, at -40 ℃ was found to be 430.5 J for the rapid induction tempering samples and 323.2 J for the traditionally tempered sample. The low-temperature impact energy at -60 ℃ was found to be 351.3 J for the rapid induction tempered sample and 312.1 J for the tradition tempering sample.展开更多

In this study, we have gained deeper insights on the mechanism underlying the microstructural evolution during tempering treatment, including the precipitation of carbides and the coarsening of martensite laths, as systematically analyzed by optical microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and high-resolution transmission electron mi- croscopy. The chemical composition of the precipitates was analyzed using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Results indicate the for- mation of M3C (cementite) precipitates under normalized conditions. However, they tend to dissolve within a short time of tempering, owing to their low thermal stability. This phenomenon was substantiated by X-ray diffraction analysis. Besides, we could observe the precipitation of fine carbonitrides (MX) along the dislocations. The mechanism of carbon diffusion controlled growth of M23C6 can be expressed by the Zener's equation. The movement of Y-junctions was determined to be the fundamental mechanism underlying the martensite lath coarsening process. Vickers hardness was estimated to determine their mechanical properties. Based on the comprehensive analysis of both the micro- structural evolution and hardness variation, the process of tempering can be separated into three steps.展开更多

The results show that the microstructure of X80 steel tempered at 550 ℃ and 600 ℃ is bainitic ferrite (BF)+granular bainite (GB), and partial ferrite laths in BF merge and broaden. The interior sub-lath boundary of some GB begins to disappear due to merging, the M/A constituent (a mixture of martensite plus retained austenite) in GB is orbicular. At the two tempering temperatures the tested X80 steel shows a certain degree of tempering stability. After being tempered at 650 ℃, the microstructure of X80 steel is GB+quasi-polygonal ferrite(QF), and the original BF laths have merged to form smaller GB crystal grains. The reason is that the steel shows better match of strength and toughness. After being tempered at 700 ℃ , the microstructure of X80 steel is composed mainly of QF, which can improve the plasticity but decline severely the yield strength of X80, and the M/A constituent assembles and grows up at the grain boundary of QF, resulting in excellent lower low-temperature toughness of X80.展开更多

The steel had undergone 5 passes controlled rolling, then was relaxed lair cooled) to 730 degreesC: and cooled in water. The evolution of microstructure was that, in early stage of tempering, no obvious change was detected by means of optical microscopy while dislocation cells were formed inside bainitic laths. With further tempering, bainitic laths started to coalesce in some regions. Finally, polygonal ferrite was formed while hardness decreased dramatically. Some samples taken from the same primary plate were reheated at 930 degreesC for 0.5 h followed by quenching into water before tempering. Despite their lower original hardness, the reheated samples softened Faster during tempering. Ferrite was quickly formed in the reheated samples. These results indicate that the evolution of microstructures towards equilibrium during tempering of the steel is mainly determined by whether dislocations are pinned rather than the dislocation density.展开更多

The effects of nitrogen on the properties of the steels were analyzed. The results of the tensile and corrosion tests show the strength, the ductility, and the pitting corrosion resistance of S13 -4N are higher, lower and poorer than those of S13 -6 respectively, when tempered at a temperature below 550 ℃and vice versa when the tempering temperature is higher than 550℃. The results of the X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) analyses reveal that inversed austenite appears at 550℃ and the amount of it peaks at 600 ℃ with the best ductility. And the total amount of the inversed austenite in S13 -6 is more than that in S13 -4N in different forms. Nitrogen performs better in terms of stabilizing inversed austenite while nickel is more favorable for forming inversed austenite, the amount and stability of which affect the ductility remarkably. The reason for the embrittlement of S13 -4N at 450℃ can be the result of carbide and nitride precipitating at grain boundaries.展开更多

Therefore, parallel tempering Monte Carlo simulation was used in order to get fast thermalisation (to minimize the relaxation time). Distance dependent interaction coupling in 2D is studied in order to show how a spin glass phase transition occurs when couplings between far away spins are permitted by considering Edwards-Anderson Ising spin glass model. The interaction coupling is a quenched random variable whose probability of being non-zero decays with distance between two spin sites rij = |i-j|mod(L/2).The interaction coupling is random and its probability distribution is decaying with the distance between the spins (p(Jij) αrij^-ρ). The model is studied by changing p among three different regimes (p 〉 2D, 4/3 D〈 p 〈 2D, p 〈 4/3D). A phase transition temperature for p = 2, 3, 4 is obtained.展开更多

Moreover, the hardness of steel 42CrMo and T8Mn tempered for various times at 200-600℃ was calculated using this method. The predicted results are in good agreement with those of the available experiments.
文摘The structure and properties of high chromium white cast iron in different treatment states were studied. Using X ray diffraction method, observing their metallograph and measuring their microhardness, the phases involved in the iron were determined. The notch toughness, macrohardness and the fractograph of the samples are compared and their performance was determined, which mainly depends on the matrix structure. Relatively good comprehensive properties can be obtained in the tempering state. Improvements have been made on the commonly used tempering standard. Tempering for a short period at low temperature can improve the materials′ service performance obviously.

文摘The HAZ microstructure and performance of Quenching and Tempering mode temper bead welding and general welded joints which were made on SA508-3 steel of 60 mm thickness were compared in this article. The result shows that tempering sorbite which has excellent overall performance was obtained in both modes. The microstructure of Quenching and Tempering mode welded joints got more fine grain. Even though the hardness of tempering bead welded joints is higher than the general one,it still meets the standards which is lower than 350 HV. The impact absorbing energy of each district of tempering bead welded joints HAZ reached 170 J,which is equal to general one.
文摘After tempering treatment at different conditions, the tempering stability of Fe-base hardfacing layer containing RE and multiple alloying was investigated. The results show that after heat preservation at 560 ℃ and tempering for 4 h the hardness value of Fe-base hardfacing layer containing RE and multiple alloying can reach HRC57; By repeatedly heating circle 700 ℃17 ℃ for 150 times, the hardness value of Fe-base hardfacing layer can reach HRC43, tempering stability is higher and causes the secondary hardening phenomenon. Reasons for higher tempering stability of Fe-base hardfacing layer were analyzed by means of metallographic, XRD, TEM and EDS.
文摘The mechanical and corrosive properties of 00Cr13Ni4Mo (S13 -4N) were tested and compared with those of 00Cr13Ni6Mo (S13 -6). The reason for the embrittlement of S13 -4N at 450℃ can be the result of carbide and nitride precipitating at grain boundaries.
文摘Spin glass system is a complex disordered system with a number of local minima separated by entropic barriers. A phase transition temperature for p = 2, 3, 4 is obtained.
文摘Based on the analysis of different theory for glass tempering process, the“structural theory”with stress relaxation and structural relaxation effects was selected to investigate the tempering of flat glass quantificationally. The geometrical model with small size and non-homogeneous mesh were considered to build the finite element models according to the characteristics of stress field. The tempering process of flat glass with12 mm thickness was calculated with the verified finite element model. The transient and permanent stress of the central area, edge and corner end of the flat glass are obtained and analyzed. From the calculation results of basic case, the transient tensile stress at the upper surface of the central area, the center point of edge, the edge of edge, the edge of corner were 14.30,18.94,40.76 and 34.75 MPa,respectively. The transient tensile stress at these points were dangerous to promote the glass to break during the tempering. In addition, the point at the diagonal line of symmetry plane in the thickness direction, which is 14 mm from corner, has the maximum permanent tensile stress about 70.01 MPa in the flat glass after tempering. Thus,it is indicated that the corner is the weakest region in the tempered glass.
