Research on dent resistance of lightweight three-piece cans

An experimental apparatus and a numerical simulation model were built for investigating the dent resistance of lightweight three-piece cans.The dent resistance of raw materials 0.19 mm T4 and 0.17 mm DR7M was compared.It was found that when the thickness reduced from 0.19 to 0.17 mm,the dent resistance became about 80％ of that before thinning.This provides a guidance for the continuous thinning of three-piece cans.

Evaluation of suturless scleral fixation with posterior chamber foldable intraocular lens implantation

AIM: To assess the sutureless scleral fixation technique for posterior chamber foldable intraocular lens(PCIOL) implantation in aphakic eyes with insufficient or no capsular support. METHODS: A technique for sutureless intrascleral fixation of the haptics of a standard 3-piece PCIOL was used which ensures sutureless fixation by permanent incarceration of the haptics in a scleral tunnel parallel to the limbus. All patients were evaluated for preoperative status [visual acuity, refractive error, K readings, intraocular pressure(IOP) measurement, slit lamp examination, fundus examination and optical biometry], postoperative status and complications. Ultrasound biomicroscopy(UBM) was done for 10 cases to evaluate optic tilt. RESULTS: The study evaluated 42 eyes of 42 patients. The follow-up period was 6 mo. Improvement of best corrected visual acuity(BCVA) one line occurred in 10 cases(23.8%) and loss of one line in 3 cases(7.1%). Intraoperative complications included: haptic kink in 4 cases(9.5%), haptic breakage in 1 case(2.4%), haptic dislocation in 1 case(2.4%), haptic slippage in 3 cases(7.1%), IOL dislocation in 1 case(2.4%) and sclerotomy related bleeding in 1 case(2.4%). Postoperative complications included: transient mild vitreous hemorrhage in 3 cases(7.1%), choroidal detachment in 1 case(2.4%), cystoid macular edema(CME) in 1 case(2.4%), optic capture in 1 case(2.4%), subconjunctival haptic in 2 cases(4.8%), ocular hypotony in 4 cases(9.5%) and ocular hypertension in 1 case(2.4%). There were no cases of retinal detachment or endophthalmitis. UBM showed optic tilt in 3 cases(30%). CONCLUSION: Fixation of three-piece foldable IOL haptics in scleral tunnel parallel to the limbus-providedaxial stability and proper centration of the IOL with minimal or no tilt in most cases and a low complication rate during the follow up period which lasted 6 mo.

Ten-year experience with penile prosthetic surgery for the treatment of erectile dysfunction:outcomes of a tertiary referral center and predictors of early prosthetic infection

We aimed to evaluate ten-year outcomes of penile prosthesis(PP)implantation for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and to assess predictors of early prosthetic infection(EPI).We identified 549 men who underwent 576 PP placements between 2008 and 2018.Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to identify potential predictors of EPI.An EPI predictive nomogram was developed.Thirty-five(6.1%)cases of EPI were recorded with an explant rate of 3.1%.In terms of satisfaction,82.0%of the patients defined themselves as“satisfied,”while partner’s satisfaction was 88.3%.Diabetes(P=0.012),longer operative time(P=0.032),and reinterventions(P=0.048)were associated with EPI risk,while postoperative ciprofloxacin was inversely associated with EPI(P=0.014).Rifampin/gentamicin-coated 3-piece inflatable PP(r/g-c 3IPP)showed a higher EPI risk(P=0.019).Multivariate analyses showed a two-fold higher risk of EPI in diabetic patients,redo surgeries,or when a r/g-c 3IPP was used(all P<0.03).We showed that diabetes,longer operative time,and secondary surgeries were the risk factors for EPI.Postoperative ciprofloxacin was associated with a reduced risk of EPI,while r/g-c 3IPP had higher EPI rates without an increased risk of PP explant.After further validation,the proposed nomogram could be a useful tool for the preoperative counseling of PP implantation.
