The dynamics of molecular rotational wave packets of D2 induced by ultrashort laser pulses was investigated numerically by solving the time-dependent SchrSdinger equation. Results show that an ultrashort pulse can manipulate a coherent rotational wave packet of D2 se- lectively. In the calculation, a first laser pulse was used to create a coherent rotational wave packet from an initial thermal ensemble of D2 at the temperature of 300 K. The second laser pulse was used to manipulate the rotational wave packet selectively around the first quarter and the three quarters revival. The alignment parameter and its Fourier transform amplitude both illustrate that the relative populations of even and odd rotational states in the final rotational wave packet of D2 can be manipulated by precisely selecting the time delay between the first and the second ultrashort pulse. 展开更多

This paper presents a method of generating terahertz (THz) coherent transition radiation (CTR) from picosecond ultrashort electron bunches including single and train bunches, which are produced by a photocathode radio frequency gun. The radiation characteristics of THz CTR including formation factor and energy spectrum are analysed in detail. With the help of a 2-dimensional particle-in-cell simulation, the radiation characteristics including power, energy and magnetic field are analysed. The results show that the radiation frequency can be adjusted by tuning the repetition frequency of the train bunch and the energy can be enhanced with the train bunches. 展开更多

Lodging is the most common constraint on grain yield of direct-seeded rice.There is limited information about lodging resistance and its related plant traits in direct-seeded and double-season rice(DDR)in Central China.This study aims to identify the plant traits that achieve high lodging resistance in ultrashort-duration varieties(about 95 days)of DDR.Field experiments were conducted in 2017 and 2018 in Wuxue County,Hubei Province,China,with four ultrashort-duration varieties grown under two nitrogen(N)rates.Lodging-related traits were measured on the 15 th day after heading,and yield and yield attributes were measured at maturity.The grain yield of the four varieties ranged from 4.59 to 7.61 t ha^(-1)across the two N rates,with a total growth duration of 85 to 97 days.Varietal differences in lodging index were mainly explained by the bending moment,which was closely related to plant height.Breaking resistance did not affect the lodging index significantly.Shortening plant height from 95.4 to 80.5 cm decreased the lodging index by 22.4%but did not reduce grain yield.Our results suggested that reducing plant height was effective in improving the lodging resistance of ultrashort-duration varieties of DDR.Lodging resistance should be enhanced by improving breaking resistance rather than reducing plant height to increase DDR grain yield further. 展开更多

The experimental result of terahertz (THz) coherent transition radiation generated from an ultrashort electron bunching beam is reported. During this experiment, the window for THz transmission from ultrahigh vacuum to free air is tested. The compact measurement system which can simultaneously test the THz wave power and frequency is built and proofed. With the help of improved Martin-Puplett interferometer and Kramers-Krong transform, the longitudinal bunch length is measured. The results show that the peak power of THz radiation wave is more than 80 kW, and its radiation frequency is from 0.1 THz to 1.5 THz. 展开更多

It is found that ASSFM must be used to solve GNLSE to ensure precision when the soliton selffrequency shift is remarkable and the photonic crystal fibre (PCF) parameters vary with the frequency considerably. The precision of numerical simulation by using ASSFM is higher than that by using split-step Fourier method in the process of laser pulse propagation in PCFs due to the fact that the variation of fibre parameters with the peak frequency in the pulse spectrum can be taken into account fully. 展开更多

In this paper a comprehensive framework for treating the nonlinear propagation of ultrashort pulse in metamaterial with dispersive dielectric susceptibility and magnetic permeability is presented. Under the slowly-evolving-wave approximation, a generalized (3+1)-dimensional wave equation first order in the propagation coordinate and suitable for both right-handed material (I^HM) and left-handed material (LHM) is derived. By the commonly used Drude dispersive model for LHM, a (3+1)-dimensional nonlinear Schrodinger equation describing ultrashort pulsed beam propagation in LHM is obtained, and its difference from that for conventional RHM is discussed. Particularly, the self-steeping effect of ultrashort pulse is found to be anomalous in LHM. 展开更多

Propagation of strong femtosecond hyper-Gaussian pulses in a cascade three-level molecular system is studied by solving numerically the Maxwell–Bloch equations by the iterative predictor-corrector finite-difference time-domain method.Optical power limiting behavior induced by strong nonlinear two-photon absorption is observed for different orders of the femtosecond hyper-Gaussian pulses. Pulses of a higher order temporal profile are found to have a wider power range of optical limiting but a larger output saturation intensity. Both the output saturation value and the damage threshold of optical power limiting decrease with pulse duration increasing. The decrease of the pulse area along the pulse propagation is much slower than that obtained from the two-photon area theorem due to invalidity of the slowly varying amplitude approximation and the monochromatic field hypothesis. 展开更多

The result shows that the spatiotemporal distribution of the phase velocity, the longitudinal component of the electric field and the acceleration quality factor are qualitatively similar to that of the continuous-wave Gaussian beam, and are slightly influenced by the spatiotemporal coupling of the ultrashort pulsed beam. When the pulse is compressed to an ultrashort one in which the pulse duration TFWHM 〈 5T0, the variation of the maximum net energy gain due to the carrier-envelope phase is a crucial disadvantage in the CAS acceleration process. 展开更多

On the basis of equations obtained in the framework of second-order quantum-mechanical perturbation theory,the standard approach to the calculation of scattering radiation probability is extended to the case of ultrashort laser pulses.Weinvestigate the mechanism of the appearance of plasmon peaks in the spectrum of the plasma form factor for different parameters of the problem.For the case in which scattering on plasmons dominates over scattering on electron density fluctuations caused by chaotic thermal motion,we derive analytical expressions describing the scattering probability of ultrashort laser pulses on plasmons.Together with this,we obtain a simple expression connecting the frequency of scattered radiation and the energy transmitted from the incident pulse to plasmon,and vice versa.In considering the scattering probability,our emphasis is on the dependence on the pulse duration.Weassess in detail the trends of this dependence for various relations between pulse carrier frequency and plasmon energy. 展开更多

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the pain scores and rehabilitation of patientis with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy receiving massage therapy combined with traction and ultrashort wave therapy. METHODS: A total of 84 patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy treated in 105 Hospital of People's Liberation Army from June 2014 to June 2017 were included and divided into study group and control group according to different treatment regimens. A total of 42 patients in the study group was treated with cervical traction, ultrashort wave and massage therapy at the same time, whereas the other 42 patients in the control group were only treated with cervical traction and ultrashort wave. Comparison of the clinical efficacy and adverse reactions of the 2 groups was made and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores before and after treatment were observed to assess the patient's pain. Comparison of rehabilitation in the 2 groups was made by applying the Clinical Assessment Scale for Cervical Spondylosis (CASCS). RESULTS: After comparing the therapeutic effect between the study group and the control group, it showed that the total effective rate (90.48%) in the study group was significantly higher than that in the control group (73.81%), the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). By comparing the incidence of adverse reactions in the study group and the control group, results showed that the incidence of adverse reactions such as nausea, palpitations, vomiting, sweating, dizziness and colorless complexion in the study group (9.52%) was significantly lower than that in the control group (21.43%), the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). After the treatment, the VAS pain scores of the study group and the control group were both significantly improved (P < 0.05), but the improvement of the patients in the study group was more significantly (P < 0.05), and the difference was statistically significant. After treatment, the CASCS scores of the patients in the study group and the control group were significantly improved (P < 0.05), but the improvement of the study group was more (P < 0.05), and there was statistically significant difference. CONCLUSION: The combination of massage, traction and ultrashort wave therapy can significantly reduce the pain and reduce the incidence of adverse reactions in patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy, which is of great clinical significance to the rehabilitation of patients. 展开更多

Generation of intense broadband terahertz(THz) waves from gas plasma induced by tri-color ultrashort(fundamental(ω), second harmonic(2ω), and third harmonic(3ω)) laser pulses is theoretically investigated. Simulation results show that the 3ω laser pulse can greatly enhance or suppress the generation of THz wave at different values of relative phase(θ 3) between the 3ω and ω fields. Moreover, the polarities of the generated THz waves can be controlled by changing θ 3,with the relative phase θ 2(between the 2ω and ω fields) fixed to be a certain value. All of our results show that θ 3 plays a key role in the generation process, which promises to control the intensity as well as the polarity of gas plasma-induced THz radiation. 展开更多

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of USW on reper... BACKGROUND: Ultrashortwave (USW) therapy may be a new method for treatment of ischemic cerebrovascular diseases. It is necessary to study its treatment time window. OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of USW on reperfusion injury after occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (MCAO) in rats and discuss its acting mechanisms and best occasion. DESIGN: Randomized controlled observation, animal experiment. SETTING: Laboratory of Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, First Hospital Affiliated to China Medical University. MATERIALS: Sixty-six healthy Wistar rats of either gender and of clean grade, aged 18–20 weeks, weighing from 250 to 300 g, were provided by the Experimental Animal Center of China Medical University. An USW device (Shanghai Electrical Device Company) with the frequency of 40.68 MHz and the maximum output power of 40 W, and the first channel power controlled at about 11 W was used in this study. Output power was determined by photometry. METHODS: Sixty-six rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: Sham-operation group (n =6): The suture was inserted only 1.0 depth during operation, which did not cause MACO; Model group (n =12): The USW treatment procedure was performed with the power off on the model rats; USW treatment group (n =48): The 48 rats were randomly divided into modeling 0, 6, 12 and 18 hours 4 subgroups. USW therapy without heat was used on the head of rats for 10 minutes at each time point. Twelve rats in USW treatment group were decapitated following treatment at each time point, and then their brain tissues were harvested. The rat brain tissues in other groups were harvested by decapitation at 24 hours after modeling. When the rats were awake, the neurologic deficit was scored by Zea-Longa five-point scale (a score of 0 indicated no neurologic deficit, a score of 1 indicated failure to extend left paw fully, a score of 2 indicated circling to the left, and a score of 3 indicated falling to the left, and rats with a score of 4 did not walk spontaneously and has a depressed level of consciousness.) Rats which still survived at 24 hours and was scored 1 and 2 on the neurologic scoring were involved in the analysis. ① Determination of cerebral water content: Cerebral water contents of healthy and injured hemisphere were determined by wet/dry weighing method. Cerebral water content (100%) =(1–dry/wet weight)×100%.②Infarction volume: The brain tissue was sliced into 2 mm sections and each section was stained with 20 g/L 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) by TTC staining technique for 30 minutes in a water bath at 37 ℃.Then, the section was fixed in 100 g/L formaldehyde for 10 minutes .The infarction volume was analyzed by using an imaging analyzer.③ Preparation of light microscopic sample: The rat brain tissue fixed by 100 g/L neutral formaldehyde and stained with TTC, were gradiently dehydrated with alcoholic, embedded with paraffin, sliced and stained by HE, finally, the sections were observed under the light microscope. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Cerebral water content, cerebral infarction volume and cerebral histomorphology of rats in each group. RESULTS: Sixty-six rats were involved in the final analysis. ①Cerebral water content: There were no significant differences of cerebral water content in healthy hemisphere among groups (P 〉 0.05). Cerebral water content of injured hemisphere in the model group and at modeling 0, 6, 12 and 18 hours in the USW treatment group was (81.50±0.74) %, (81.02±0.83) %, (79.78±0.70) %, (79.74±0.84) %, (79.39± 1.06) %, respectively, which was significantly higher than that in the sham-operation group [(78.09±0.52) %, P 〈 0.05]. At modeling 0, 6 and 12 hours, the cerebral water content in the injured hemisphere in the USW treatment group was significantly lower than that in the model group, respectively (P 〈 0.05). It indicatedthat USW treatment given at 6, 12 and 18 hours after ischemia/reperfusion can lessen brain edema. ② Cerebral infarction volume: At modeling 18 hours, cerebral infarction volume in the injured hemisphere of USW treatment group was smaller than that in the model group [(191.62±121.45),(362.03±142.01)mm3, t =2.23,P 〈 0.05]. ③ Cerebral histomorphological observation: No swelling was found in the brain tissue section of rats in the sham-operation group. In the model group, the size of infarction hemisphere was obviously increased, gyrus became flattened, cortical sulci was shallow, the color at infarct focus obviously became light, and the tissue was fragile and brittle. In the sham-operation group, it was found under the microscope that mesenchyma was highly swelled, neuronal peripheral interspace was obviously broadened, neurons presented triangle, nucleoli were reduced, condensed even disappeared, and neutrophils in the vascular cavity were obviously increased. In the USW treatment group, pathological injury was not obviously lessened at 0 hour, moderate or mild edema could be found in the injured hemisphere of USW treatment group at modeling 6,12 and 18 hours, and at this time, neutrophils in vascular cavity were increased slightly, and pathological injuries were lessened. CONCLUSION: USW may play a protective effect on cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury by decreasing brain edema and/or cerebral infarction volume. The treatment action of USW may start at 6 hours after reperfusion, and the best occasion of application may be at 18 hours after reperfusion. 展开更多

This work designs a four-platelet periodic multicrystal configuration in the second harmonic generation of ultra- short pulses as a new walk-off-compensating device. It theoretically investigates a proposed active and a typical passive compensating scheme with the undepleted-pump approximation. The result shows that the angular and spectral band- widths are proportional to the number of crystal pairs as expected, but the temperature tunability is basically unaltered owing to inter-plate pulse interference. At the same time, an analysis reveals that a misuse of the phase mismatch factor is responsible for a historic controversy about pulse interference. A real design of an ultraviolet second harmonic generation (262.5 nm) is considered in a passive periodic [3-Barium Borate-calcite configuration, where the inter-plate pulse interference is found to form an azimuthal tuning restriction and to lower plate length tolerance. A subsequent numerical simulation with pump depletion is in good accordance with theoretical prediction. 展开更多

By using a one-dimensional self-consistent relativistic fluid model, an investigation is made numerically on relativistic electromagnetic solitons with a high intensity in cold overdense plasmas with an electrons' initial velocity opposite to the laser propagating direction. Two types of standing solitons with zero group velocity are found at the given electrons' initial velocities. One is single-humped with a weakly relativistic intensity; the another is multi-humped with a strong relativistic amplitude. Based on a modified coupled wave theory of Kogelnik, we have studied the diffraction of an ultrashort pulsed beam with an arbitrary polarization state from a volume holographic grating in photorefractive LiNbO3 crystals. The results indicate that the diffracted intensity distributions in the spectral and temporal domains and the diffraction efficiency of the grating are both changed by the polarization state and spectral bandwidth of the input pulsed beam. A method is given of choosing the grating parameters and input conditions to obtain a large variation range of the spectral bandwidth of the diffracted pulsed beam with an appropriate diffraction efficiency. Our study presents a possibility of using a volume holographic grating recorded in anisotropic materials to shape a broadband ultrashort pulsed beam by modulating its polarization state. 展开更多

Coulomb expansion of deuterated methane clusters irradiated by an ultrashort intense laser pulse

The simulations of three-dimensional particle dynamics show that when irradiated by an ultrashort intense laser pulse, the deuterated methane cluster expands and the majority of deuterons overrun the more slowly expanding carbon ions, resulting in the creation of two separated subelusters. The enhanced deuteron kinetic energy and a narrow peak around the energy maximum in the deuteron energy distribution make a considerable contribution to the efficiency of nuclear fusion compared with the ease of homonuelear deuterium clusters. With the intense laser irradiation, the nuclear fusion yield increases with the increase of the cluster size, so that deuterated heteronuelear clusters with larger sizes are required to achieve a greater neutron yield. 展开更多
