The flow past a square-section cylinder with a geometric disturbance is investigated by numerical simulations. The extra terms, due to the introduction of mapping transformation simulating the effect of disturbance into the transformed Navier-Stokes equations, are correctly derived, and the incorrect ones in the previous literature are pointed out and analyzed. Furthermore, the relationship between the vorticity, especially on the cylinder surface, and the disturbance is derived and explained theoretically. The computations are performed at two Reynolds numbers of 100 and 180 and three amplitudes of waviness of 0.006, 0.025 and 0.167 with another aim to explore the effects of different Reynolds numbers and disturbance on the vortex dynamics in the wake and forces on the body. Numerical results have shown that, at the mild waviness of 0.025, the Kairmain vortex shedding is suppressed completely for Re = 100, while the forced vortex dislocation is appeared in the near wake at the Reynolds number of 180. The drag reduction is up to 21.6% at Re = 100 and 25.7% at Re = 180 for the high waviness of 0.167 compared with the non-wavy cylinder. The lift and the Strouhal number varied with different Reynolds numbers and the wave steepness are also obtained. 展开更多

Aircraft wake turbulence is an inherent outcome of aircraft flight, presenting a substan-tial challenge to air traffic control, aviation safety and operational efficiency.Building upon data obtained from coherent Doppler Lidar detection, and combining Dynamic Bayesian Networks(DBN)with Genetic Algorithm-optimized Backpropagation Neural Networks(GA-BPNN),this paper proposes a model for the inversion of wake vortex parameters.During the wake vortex flow field simulation analysis, the wind and turbulent environment were initially superimposed onto the simulated wake velocity field.Subsequently,Lidar-detected echoes of the velocity field are simulated to obtain a data set similar to the actual situation for model training. In the case study validation, real measured data underwent preprocessing and were then input into the established model. This allowed us to construct the wake vortex characteristic parameter inversion model. The final results demonstrated that our model achieved parameter inversion with only minor errors. In a practical example, our model in this paper significantly reduced the mean square error of the inverted velocity field when compared to the traditional algorithm. This study holds significant promise for real-time monitoring of wake vortices at airports, and is proved a crucial step in developing wake vortex interval standards. 展开更多

A new vortex sheet model was proposed for simulating aircraft wake vortex evolution.Rather than beginning with a pair of counter-rotating cylindrical vortices as in the traditional models, a lift-drag method is used to initialize a vortex sheet so that the roll-up phase is taken into account. The results of this model report a better approximation to a real situation when compared to the measurement data. The roll-up induced structures are proved to influence the far-field decay. On one hand, they lead to an early decay in the diffusion phase. On the other hand, the growth of linear instability such as elliptical instability is suppressed, resulting in a slower decay in the rapid decay phase. This work provides a simple and practicable model for simulating wake vortex evolution, which combines the roll-up process and the far-field phase in simulation. It is also proved that the roll-up phase should not be ignored when simulating the far-field evolution of an aircraft wake vortex pair, which indicates the necessity of this new model. 展开更多

Numerical investigation of the unsteady flow variability driven by rotorstator interaction in a transonic axial compressor is performed. Two models with close and far axial gap between rotor and stator rows are studied in the simulation. Particular attention is attached to the analysis of mechanisms involved in driving rotor wake oscillation, rotor wake skewing and flow angle fluctuation at rotor exit. The results show that smaller axial gap is favorable to enhance the interaction in the region between two adjacent rows, and the fluctuation of the static pressure difference between two sides of rotor wake is improved by potential field from down stator, which is the driving force for rotor wake oscillation. The interaction between rotor and stator is weakened by increasing axial distance, rotor wake shifts to suction side of rotor blade with 5%-10% of rotor pitch, the absolute value of flow angle at rotor exit is less than that in the case of close interspace for every time step, and the fluctuation amplitude is also decreased. 展开更多

Analysis of rotorcraft dynamics requires solution of the rotor induced flow field.Often, the appropriate model to be used for induced flow is nonlinear potential flow theory(which is the basis of vortex-lattice methods). These nonlinear potential flow equations sometimes must be solved in real time––such as for real-time flight simulation, when observers are needed for controllers,or in preliminary design computations. In this paper, the major effects of nonlinearities on induced flow are studied for lifting rotors in low-speed flight and hover. The approach is to use a nonlinear statespace model of the induced flow based on a Galerkin treatment of the potential flow equations. 展开更多
