NBS leads directly to improving the ability to prevent disease and disability in childhood and throughout life. Currently, there are differences from one state to another with respect to conditions included in newborn screening programs: many states screen for less than 10 conditions, whereas other states include over 35 conditions. Tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) as a more accurate analytical method than conventional newborn blood-spot screening has greatly increased the number of diseases that can be detected. A potential technology, DNA microarray, could be developed and put in place to correct the existing shortcomings.展开更多
