Method: 30 patients with transient cerebral ischemia attack in the treatment group were acupunctured at Fengchi (GB 20), Wangu (GB 12) and Tianzhu (BL 10) and given orally leech capsules and centipede capsules. 30 patients with transient cerebral ischemia attack in the control group were given intravenous drip of compound Danshen injection and orally aspirin. At the end of two treatment courses, the curative effects were evaluated and the changes in blood rheology and in 3 indexes of blood coagulation were observed before and after treatment in the 2 groups. Results: The total effective rate in the treatment group was 86.7% with obvious difference as compared to the control group (P<0.05). There were remarkable differences in blood rheology and 3 indexes of blood coagulation before and after treatment in the treatment group (P<0.05, P<0.01). There were remarkable differences after treatment between the 2 groups (P<0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture at Fengchi (GB 20), Wangu (GB 12) and Tianzhu (BL 10) and medication with leech capsules and centipede capsules are effective methods in treating transient cerebral ischemia attack.展开更多

Method: 78 cases of ischemic apoplexy were randomly divided into a treatment group of 39 cases treated by electroacupuncture plus acupoint-injection and a control group of 39 cases treated by electroacupuncture alone. Results: The neural functional defect score (NFDS) decreased while the functional independence mark (FIM) increased with obvious significant differences before and after treatment in both of the two groups. And there were very remarkable differences between the two groups in the changes of both NFDS and FIM after treatment (P<0.01), showing better results in the treatment group than that of the control group. Conclusion: Electroacupuncture plus acupoint-injection can promote the recovery of the neural function for the ischemic apoplexy patients and markedly enhance their daily living ability, with better effects than that in patients treated by electroacupuncture alone.展开更多

However, it is unclear whether electroacupuncture alters mi RNA expression in the cortex. In this study, we examined changes in the cerebral cortical mi RNA profile, cerebral blood flow and neurological function induced by electroacupuncture in a rat model of stroke. Electroacupuncture was performed at Renzhong(GV26) and Neiguan(PC6), with a frequency of 2 Hz, continuous wave, current intensity of 3.0 m A, and stimulation time of 1 minute. Electroacupuncture increased cerebral blood flow and alleviated neurological impairment in the rats. mi RNA microarray profiling revealed that the vascular endothelial growth factor signaling pathway, which links cell proliferation with stroke, was most significantly affected by electroacupuncture. Electroacupuncture induced changes in expression of rno-mi R-206-3p, rno-mi R-3473, rno-mi R-6216 and rno-mi R-494-3p, and these changes were confirmed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. Our findings suggest that changes in cell proliferation-associated mi RNA expression induced by electroacupuncture might be associated with the improved cerebral blood supply and functional recovery following stroke.展开更多

The attack usually lasts for 1 to 2 minutes with different intervals. The patient’s life quality can be seriously affected. It is mainly treated with orally taken drugs in western internal department but without satisfactory result, and with local closing therapy in surgical department. The problem may reoccur half a year later in most patients complicated with facial paralysis, so western medicine is not likely to be accepted by the patients. The author has tried to apply abdominal acupuncture in the treatment of 25 cases of trigeminal neuralgia with good effect. The result is as follows.展开更多

Methods: Thirty-eight female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups initially, a sham-operated group (Sham, n=7), a model ovariectomized (OVX) group (Model, n=7), a propranolol group (Pro, n=12) and a ZGCD group (ZGCD, n=12). After 15 weeks of treatment, the expected effects were not found. In order to verify the situations of the experiment, we modified the study by administering calcitonin to a subgroup of the tested Pro and ZGCD rats. Results: The Pro and ZGCD treatments showed decreased heart rate and plasma norepinephrine level, but neither an increased bone mass nor any bone metabolism differences from the model rats were found. However, the OVX-induced bone loss was prevented by the sequent treatment of calcitonin. Conclusions: The results provide no evidence that the β-blocker propranolol may stimulate bone formation, and do not iustify its use for clinical treatment of osteoporosis.展开更多
