Rubber agroforestry systems positively impact soil microbial communities. This study employed a bibliometric approach to explore the research status, hotspots, and development trends related to these effects. Using CiteSpace software, we visually analyzed research literature from the Web of Science (WOS) core database, spanning 2004 to 2024. The focus was on the impact of rubber agroforestry ecosystems on soil microbial communities. The results indicate significant attention from Chinese researchers, who have published numerous influential papers in this field. Authors Liu Wenjie have contributed the most papers, although no stable core author group exists. The Chinese Academy of Sciences is the leading research institution in terms of publication volume. While there is close collaboration between different institutions and countries, the intensity of researcher cooperation is low. The most cited literature emphasizes soil nutrients and structure in rubber agroforestry, laying a foundation for soil microorganism studies. Most cited journals are from countries like Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Key research areas include the effects of rubber intercropping on soil microbial communities, agroforestry management, and soil health. Research development can be divided into three stages: the initial stage (2010-2015), the development stage (2015-2020), and the mature stage (2020-2024). Current studies show that rubber intercropping and rubber-based agroforestry systems enhance soil microbial communities, positively impacting soil health. This paper provides a theoretical basis for the sustainable development of rubber agroforestry systems and improved management plans. Future research could explore the effects of species composition on soil microbiological characteristics and develop methods for species interactions. An in-depth study of the soil microbial community’s structure and function, and its relationship with rubber trees, is crucial. Developing effective, rationally designed rubber agroforestry systems and underground soil microbiome technology will promote sustainability and improve plantation productivity. 展开更多

No attempt has been made to date to model growth in girth of rubber tree (Hevea brasiliansis). We evaluated the few widely used growth functions to identify the most parsimonious and biologically reasonable model for describing the girth growth of young rubber trees based on an incomplete set of young age measurements. Monthly data for girth of immature trees (age 2 to 12 yearsi from two locations were sub- jected to modelling. Re-parameterized, unconstrained and constrained growth functions,of Richards (RM), Gompertz (GM) and the monomo- lecular 'model ^(MM) were fitted to data. Duration of growth was the firsf constraint introduced. In the stagel We attempted a population aver- age (PA) model to capture the trend in growth. The best PA model was fitted as a subject specific (SS) model. We used appropriate error vari- ance-covariance structure to account for correlation due to repeated measurements over time. Unconstrainecl functions underestimated the asymptotic maximum that did not reflective carrying capacity of the locations. Underestimafions were attributed to the partial set' of meas- urements made during the early growth phase of the trees. MM proved superior to RM and GM. In the randomcoefficient models, both Gf and Go appeared to be influenced by tree level effects. Inclusion of diagonal definite positive matrix removed the correlation between random effects. The results were similar at both locations. In the overall assessment MM appeared as the candidate model for studying the girth-age relationships in Hevea trees. Based on the fitted model we conclude that, in Hevea trees, growth rate is maintained at maximum value at to, then decreases until the final state at dG/dt 〉 0, resulting in yield curve with no period of accelerating growth. One physiological explanation is that photosynthetic activity in Hevea trees decreases as girth increases and constructive metabolism is larger than destructive metabolism. 展开更多

The rubber tree physiological and ecological process quantitatively described by using mathematical method is an important means to the analysis of rubber tree growth process and mechanism. The study on growth simulation model of rubber tree will lay the foundation for the application of rubber tree cultivation intelligent decision system. A Richards equation was formulated to describe the height and stem diameter growth dynamics of the annual rubber seedlings. An area correlation analysis was done according to the closeness of the observed parameters to the dynamic curve on the gray system composed of the seedling growth increment and the meteorological factors including aerial temperature, precipitation and solar radiation hours that influence upon the seedling growth. The results showed that rubber seedling response fitted the Richards equation quite well. The growth increment displayed a distinct alternation of 'slow—fast—slow— fast—slow' rhythm. The growth course of the seedlings might be partitioned into three periods of time by the sequential clustering analysis, namely pre-growing, fast-growing, late-growing stage. The tray correlation analysis revealed that air temperature had the most significant influence while precipitation had the least impact on height growth of the rubber seedlings. In conclusion, the air temperature had the most significant influence while solar radiation hours had the least impact on stem diameter growth of the rubber seedlings. 展开更多

Rice husk ash/natural rubber composites were fabricated by modifying rice husk ash with the rare earth coupling agent DN-8102. The structure of the rice husk ash and the morphological dispersion of the rice husk ash in a rubber matrix were charactered by scanning and transmission electron microscopy, respectively. The mechanical properties of the composites were experimentally studied. The surface energy and the interaction between rice husk ash particles can be reduced by surface modification of rice husk ash with a rare earth coupling agent, which reduces the agglomeration of rice husk ash in both liquid and rubber matrices and enhances the interactions between rice husk ash and the rubber phase, and thus results in improved mechanical properties for the resulting rice husk ash/natural rubber composite. The modulus of the composites will increase as the loading level of modified rice husk ash increases. A maximum tensile strength of 25.96 MPa for the composites can be obtained when the modified rice husk ash loading level is 4%. 展开更多

The natural rubber/zinc disorbate composite was prepared by the in situ formation of zinc disorbate from zinc oxide and sorbic acid in natural rubber. The structure variations of fillers during mixing and vulcanization processes were studied by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR). The effects of zinc disorbate amount on processing performance and glass transition temperature(Tg) of compounds and the mechanical properties of vulcanizates were also determined. The XRD and FTIR analyses results indicate that the zinc disorbate is formed from the reaction of zinc oxide and sorbic acid during the mixing procedure followed by graft copolymerizing with NR molecules to form composite networks during vulcanization, which is initiated by dicumyl peroxide. Thus the mechanical properties of NR-based composite are increased significantly and Tg shifted towards to higher temperature. 展开更多

[Objective]To elucidate the role of ethylene(ET),a latex yield stimulant of the rubber tree,on the sieve tube(ST)transport efficiency of materials(especially sucrose)needed for natural rubber biosynthesis.[Method]Rubber tree seedlings were treated with ET solution or water which was used as a control on the bark, and latex samples and ST tissue samples were collected for proteomic analyses and latex sucrose content determination respectively.[Results]After ET treatment, the sucrose content of the latex was found significantly decreased.A total of 66 ethylene-responsive proteins(ERPs)were distinguished by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis(2-DE),and 54 were successfully identified by MALDI-TOF/TOF and database searching. The majority of these ERPs were involved in carbohydrate transport and metabolic processes in the ST.[Conclusion]Our findings suggest that the application of ET may increase the transport efficiency of the ST and that the application of ET promotes the consumption of energy and sucrose in the ST. 展开更多

Rubber[Hevea brasiliensis(Willd.ex A.Juss.)Müll.Arg.]plantations are the largest cultivated forest type in tropical China.Returning organic materials to the soil will help to maintain the quality and growth of rubber trees.Although many studies have demonstrated that organic waste materials can be used to improve soil fertility and structure to promote root growth, few studies have studied the eff ects of organic amendments on soil fertility and root growth in rubber tree plantations. Here, bagasse, coconut husk or biochar were applied with a chemical fertilizer to test their eff ects on soil properties after 6 months and compared with the eff ects of only the chemical fertilizer. Results showed that the soil organic matter content, total nitrogen, available phosphorus and available potassium after the chemical fertilizer(F)treatment were all signifi cantly lower than after the chemical fertilizer+bagasse(Fba),chemical fertilizer+coconut husk(Fco)or chemical fertilizer+biochar(Fbi)(p<0.05).Soil pH in all organic amendments was higher than in the F treatment, but was only signifi cantly higher in the Fbi treatment. In contrast, soil bulk density in the F treatment was signifi cantly higher than in treatments with the organic amendments(p<0.05).When compared with the F treatment, soil root dry mass increased signifi-cantly by 190%,176%and 33%in Fba,Fco and Fbi treatments,respectively(p<0.05).Similar results were found for root activity, number of root tips, root length, root surface area and root volume.Conclusively, the application of bagasse, coconut husk and biochar increased soil fertility and promoted root growth of rubber trees in the short term. However, bagasse and coconut husk were more eff ective than biochar in improving root growth of rubber trees. 展开更多

Microorganism plays an irreplaceable role in litter decomposition, and the dynamics of microbial activity in litter is of ecological significance in understanding the mechanism of litter decomposition. Therefore, the dynamic characteristics of microorganism in rubber litter decomposition were studied during 300 and 240 days by mesh bag method under different control measures in plantations. And the results were as following:(1) Microbial populations were closely related to litter residues and decomposition environments. The microbial population has been rising firstly and then falling on the ground but directly dropping under the ground by time.(2) Microbial populations under different environments as follows:0.07 mm aperture of mesh bag > 1 mm aperture of mesh bag,non-fertile hole > fertile hole, underground group > ground group. During the entire process of decomposition, the quantity of bacteria holed absolute superiority, then actinomycetes, finally fungi.(3) Through the correlation analysis, the total number of bacteria, fungi and microorganism in aboveground group was significantly associated with the decomposition rate, but there was little correlation to actinomycetes. It's suggested that fungi and bacteria are the main participants in litter decomposition on the ground. In underground group, the microbial groups were significantly or extremely significantly related to the dry weight of residues, but was not correlated to decomposition rate significantly, which suggested that litter provided food for underground microbes, and litter decomposition was more dependent on comprehensive effect of microbes, soil animals and soil environments. 展开更多

Using an isotig encoding a putative polypeptide with high similarity to Arabidopsis LEA14 as a query, a 613 bp long cDNA was in silico cloned from the transeriptome data of rubber tree. The sequence nominated as HbLEA14L2 contains an ORF of 456 bp with 3 bp 5' UTR and 154 bp 3' UTR. Subsequently, a 464 bp eDNA and an 834 bp genome sequence containing this ORF was amplified and sequenced. Sequence analysis suggested that HbLEA14L2 has one intron and encodes 151 amino acids with a theoretical molecular weight of 16.55 kDa, isoleetric point of 4.93 and GRAVY value of -0.022, indicating a cytoplasmle localization pattern; HbLEA14L2 protein contains a conserved LEA_2 domain and belongs to LEA_2 subfamily, sharing 91%, 76%, 75%, 72% and 63% similarity with the homologous proteins in castor bean, leafy spurge, poplar, cotton, and Arabidopsis, respectively. Swiss-Model indicated that the tertiary structure of HbLEA14L2 is consisted of one α-helix and seven β-sheets, which was proposed to serve as a regulatory protein to prevent cellular desiccation. 展开更多

Natural rubber (NR) was reinforced in situ with nano CaCO3 that had been modified with methacrylic acid (MAA)(M-CaCO3).The structures and properties of the resulting composites were studied using attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(ATR-FTIR),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and Mooney viscometer and mechanical tests. The results show that when NR is physically blended with CaCO3 and MAA,(Ca2+)-(–OOC) is formed in situ. When dicumyl peroxide (DCP) is added, the (Ca^2+)-(–OOC) self-homopolymerizes,and during the curing process poly-(Ca^2+)-(–OOC) is formed and grafts to the molecular chains of the NR via carbon-carbon double bonds. The NR/M-CaCO3 composites formed have close interfacial interaction and are well dispersed.Compared with the NR composites reinforced with unmodified nano CaCO3,the NR/M-CaCO3 composites have very different cure characteristics, rheological behavior, and mechanical properties, and these characteristics and properties show a significant relationship with the loading of M-CaCO3. 展开更多

Existing plant types of rubber tree after planting and available tapping tree were investigated, and there were about 28 rubber plantations with different tapping years of 8 varieties “CATAS7-33-97”, “CATAS8-79”, “CATAS7-20-59”, “PR107”, “RRIM600”, “GT1”, “INA873”, “93-114”in South China. The results showed that there were six kinds of existing plant types of rubber tree after planting of rubber plantations, which were available tapping trees, wind damaged trees, cold damaged trees, tapping panel dryness trees, absent trees and weak trees, respectively. These data investigated also showed rubber trees under available tapping, stoppage due to tapping panel dryness, absence, wind damage, cold damage and weakness were counted and calculated and made up for 72.21%, 14.75%, 5.61%, 3.86%, 2.68% and 1.89%. Tapping panel dryness trees, wind damage and absent trees are major factors for the loss of tapping rubber trees in the rubber plantations. Of these investigated varieties, available tapping trees per 100 trees of rubber plantation of “PR107”at the 1st, 12th, 14th, 16th, 20th, 24th tapping year were 96, 67, 70, 75, 66, 46 trees in Hainan planting zone, respectively. Available tapping trees per 100 trees of rubber plantation of “RRIM600”at the 9th, 15th, 20th, 22nd tapping year were 88, 62, 55, 36 trees in Yunnan planting zone, respectively. Available tapping trees per 100 trees of rubber plantation of “93-114” at the 10th, 19th, tapping year were 94, 62 trees in Guangdong planting zone. These results showed that available tapping trees of rubber plantation decreased with increasing tapping age under different planting zones in China. 展开更多

As a syndrome with tapping incision blocked partly or entirely during latex exploiting in rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis ), "Tapping panel dryness (TPD)" causes great yield losses, thereby becoming the most important factor limiting rubber production. On the basis of an EST down-regulated in TPD-affected rubber trees, a 903 bp cDNA denoted HbPIP2;2 was isolated from the bark tissue with a combination of in silico cloning and RT-PCR. The cDNA contains an 867 hp ORF, 13 bp 5'UTR and 23 bp 3' UTR. Sequence analysis indicated that HbPIP2;2 encodes 288 amino acids with a theoretical molecular weight (Mw) of 30. 71 kDa and isolectric point (Pi) of 8.20. Bioinformatics analysis suggested that the deduced protein is predicted to have six transmembrane helices located to the plasma membrane and harbor one conserved MIP domain that can be grouped into plasma membrane intrinsic proteins (PIPs) of aquaporin (AQP) family. Homolo- gy search revealed that the protein shares a similarity of more than 90% with the homologues in Ricinus communis, Popttlus trichocarpa, Juglans regia and Theobro- ma cacao, suooorting a hie.hly conserved evolution. This study provided basis for further uncovering the regulatory role of AOPs in TPD occurrence. 展开更多

The impact of four spacing of cooking banana (CB) within the immature rubber avenues on some soil fertility attributes, maturity rate of rubber trees and dry rubber content (DRC) during the initial six years after planting (YAP) were evaluated in a humid forest area of South Eastern Nigeria relative to sole rubber. The CB spacings within immature rubber avenues were 6.7 × 3.4 m;4.0 × 2.0 m, 3.0 × 3.0 m and 2.0 × 2.0 m, while the sole rubber was at 6.7 × 3.4 m, all laid out in randomized complete block design with five replications. Quantities of soil organic C, extractable P, Ca, Mg and earthworm activities were significantly higher in the intercrops, with the highest value coming from the 4 × 2 m CB spaced plots. However a significantly higher value of K stock was observed in the sole rubber plot and declined as the CB spacing narrowed. While the highest proportion (>90%) of matured hevea tree at six YAP was observed in the 2 × 2 m CB spaced plots;the highest DRC of 1.7 t?ha–1?yr–1 was obtained from CB 4 × 2 m treatment. Consequently, with some of the observed soil fertility attributes and DRC recorded, 4 × 2 m CB spacing seems to be a more suitable CB spacings within immature rubber avenues, especially in view of the levels of K in the 2 × 2 CB plots. 展开更多

Agroforestry ecosystems are constructed by simulating natural ecosystems, applying the principles of symbiosis in nature, and organizing multiple plant populations to coexist, while conducting targeted cultivation and structural control scientifically. Rubber agroforestry complex ecosystems aim for sustainable development in terms of industry, ecology, resource utilization, and the livelihoods of producers. Rubber agroforestry complex ecosystems create a complex production structure system that integrates biology, society, and the economy through species combinations. Rubber trees and associated biological components coordinate with each other, mutually promote growth, and yield a variety of products for producers. Cultivation techniques and patterns of rubber agroforestry are essential components of these ecosystems. This study analyzes the production practices of rubber agroforestry complex cultivation, with a focus on the development and characteristics (complexity, systematicity, intensity, and hierarchy) of rubber agroforestry systems using a literature analysis and a survey approach. It explores the types and scales of complex planting, specifications and forms, and major effects of complex cultivation. This study identifies successful rubber agroforestry cultivation patterns and practical techniques, as well as the potential benefits of developing rubber agroforestry cultivation. It also points out the shortcomings in the development of complex planting, including an emphasis on production practices but insufficient theoretical research, a focus on production but inadequate attention to the market, and an emphasis on yield while overlooking the improvement of standards, brands, and added value. There are various complex patterns for young rubber plantations, but relatively fewer for mature plantations. Based on this analysis, this study suggests that future efforts should focus on in-depth research on interspecies and environmental interactions in rubber agroforestry ecosystems, clearly define key roles, accelerate the innovation of development patterns, and strengthen the foundation for development. It recommends promoting and demonstrating successful rubber agroforestry complex patterns and providing technical training, developing product branding for rubber agroforestry patterns, enhancing product value, expanding the application functions of rubber-forest mixed crop products, and establishing a stable and sustainable industry chain. This study provide practical experience and theoretical insights in rubber agroforestry complex systems from China the potential to enrich the knowledge of rubber agroforestry composite systems, provide practical experience to improve the operating income of smallholders, and even promote the sustainable development of rubber plantations. 展开更多

The carcass traits and organoleptic properties of meat obtained from crossbred weaner rabbits fed cooked rubber seed meal(CRSM)-based diets were investigated. The rabbits were reared in hutches placed under mature rubber plantation.A total of 72,8-week old weaner rabbits were randomly allotted, two per cell of 6-celled rabbit hutch, with 6 replicates per diet or treatment in a completely randomized design to 6 CRSM-based diets containing 16%dietary protein. The CRSM was included at 10,20,30,40,and 50%levels in diets 2,3,4,5 and 6 respectively.Diet 1 without CRSM(0%)served as the control.Feed and water were served ad libitum for 10 weeks. The carcass weights of rabbits fed up to 10%CRSM-based diets were similar and significantly higher than that of rabbits on 20%CRSM-based diet(740.30 g)which in turn was higher(p<0.05)than what obtained for those fed 30-50%CRSM-based diets.Other carcass traits varied significantly. The weight of bled and de-furred rabbits(92.77-94.54%),carcass(56.98-60.78%),fore limb(9.72-10.69%),lung(0.66-0.79%),kidney(0.62-0.75%)and the heart(0.26-0.29%)expressed as percentage of live weight were similar(p>0.05)across board.Feeding beyond 30%CRSM-based diets had significant effects on the cooked meat’s juiciness, chewiness and texture. The inclusion of CRSM in rabbit diets had no detrimental effect on the proportion of carcass, limbs and internal organ weights.Meats from rabbits fed CRSM-based diets were well accepted by sensory evaluators but the taste, flavor, juiciness and acceptability decrease with increasing levels of CRSM in the diet. 展开更多

Rubber trees (Hevea brasiliensis Müll. Arg.) have been commercially cultivated for a century and a half in Asia, particularly in China, and they constitute a common element of plantation ecosystems in tropical regions. Soil health is fundamental to the sustainable development of rubber plantations. The objective of the study is to explore the influence of different complex ecological cultivation modes on the stability of soil aggregates in rubber based agroforestry systems. In this study, the ecological cultivation mode of rubber—Alpinia oxyphylla plantation, the ecological cultivation mode of rubber—Phrynium hainanense plantations, the ecological cultivation mode of rubber—Homalium ceylanicum plantations and monoculture rubber plantations were selected, and the particle size distribution of soil aggregates and their water stability characteristics were analyzed. The soil depth of 0 - 20 cm and 20 - 40 cm was collected for four cultivation modes. Soil was divided into 6 particle levels > 20 cm. soil was divided into 6 particle levels > 5 mm, 2 - 5 mm, 1 - 2 mm, 0.5 - 1 mm, 0.25 - 0.5 mm, and 0.053 - 0.25 mm according to the wet sieve method. The particle size proportion and water stability of soil aggregates were determined by the wet sieve method. The particle size proportion and water stability of soil aggregates under different ecological cultivation modes were analyzed. The results showed that under different ecological cultivation modes in the shallow soil layer (0 - 20 cm), the rubber—Alpinia oxyphylla plantation and the rubber—Phrynium hainanense plantation promoted the development of dominant soil aggregates towards larger size classes, whereas the situation is the opposite for rubber—Homalium ceylanicum plantation. In soil layer (20 - 40 cm), the ecological cultivation mode of rubber—Phrynium hainanense plantation developed the dominant radial level of soil aggregates to the diameter level of large aggregates. Rubber—Alpinia oxyphylla plantation and rubber—Homalium ceylanicum plantation, three indicators, including the water-stable aggregate content R0.25 (>0.25 mm water-stable aggregates), mean weight diameter (MWD), and geometric mean diameter (GMD), were all lower than those in the rubber monoculture mode. However, in the rubber—Phrynium hainanense plantation, the water-stable aggregate content R0.25, mean weight diameter, and geometric mean diameter were higher than in the rubber monoculture mode, although these differences did not reach statistical significance. 展开更多
