Based on the causality of the every element in the port-city system, the authors analyzed the feedback relation and logical relation among the system variables and system structure. A system-dynamic flow chart and correlation equations were put forward with VENSIM software, the quantitative relation was described, and the model was debugged. The development trend of the main influence factors in port-city system was simulated. By changing the influence degree of each related factor. It is found the parameters values of variables in the model, we studied that: 1) Foreign trade throughput of port play an important role in the development of export-oriented economy. 2) The development of primary industry and secondary industry affects most of the water transportation demand. With the constant increase of tertiary industry proportion in the industrial structure, the demand of national economy for water transportation decreases gradually. 3) Water transportation presents a kind of oversupply development situation, so port construction should properly slow down. 4) With the development of ports, its direct and indirect contribution to urban economy has been continuously increasing, but contribution rate will be continuously decreasing.展开更多
In recent years,carbon emissions have gradually evolved from an environment issue into a political and economic one.Carbon tariff has brought about new trade barriers of developed countries,and in order to enhance the...In recent years,carbon emissions have gradually evolved from an environment issue into a political and economic one.Carbon tariff has brought about new trade barriers of developed countries,and in order to enhance the industrial competitiveness of developed countries,it will produce unfavorable impact on developing countries.Concentrated on the manufacturing industry,which is the most intensive high-carbon industry in China's export structure,this article studies the relationship between carbon tariff policy and industry structure of export trade and builds up a relation between climate change and international trade.First,by means of establishing a partial equilibrium model,it applies geometric analysis and mathematical analysis to compute the impact on China's manufacturing export trade and the consequences of the introduction of the US carbon tariff to China's manufacturing industry that has already imposed a domestic shipping carbon tax.Furthermore,with the application of the GTAP model,it estimates the overall economic and welfare effects on China's manufacturing industry if the US and Europe introduce carbon tariff by means of four ways,and then analyzes the influence on China's manufacturing industry export structure and social welfare as well.The result shows that the introduction of the US carbon import tariff lowers China's export price and export volume,and the implementation of a domestic carbon tax justifies a higher export price and a lower export volume for China.However,the degree of export reduction is smaller than that under the effect of the US carbon tariff.In the case of developed countries imposing carbon tariff on China's energy-intensive industries,such as chemical rubber products,oil and coal-processing industry and paper industry,whose export would be reduced,the negative impact on the paper industry is the severest,which will decrease the paper industry's export ranging from 1.79%to 6.05%,whereas the other industries' export will increase.Anyhow,it will promote China's manufacturing industry to adjust the export structure to a certain extent.In addition,it will lead to a decrease in China's welfare,with a decrease between $2,134 billion and $8,347 billion.Finally,this paper provides information on international coordination,export structure adjustment and green manufacturing adjustment as a reference for the development of China's manufacturing industry.展开更多

The operating efficiency of container shipping lines depends on proper resource allocation of container shipping.A deterministic model was developed for shipping lines based on the equilibrium principle.The objective ...The operating efficiency of container shipping lines depends on proper resource allocation of container shipping.A deterministic model was developed for shipping lines based on the equilibrium principle.The objective was to optimize the resource allocation for container lines considering ship size,container deployment,and slot allocation.The deterministic model was then expanded to a robust optimization model accounting for the uncertain factors,while ship size was treated as the design variable and slot allocation as the control variable.The effectiveness of the proposed model is demonstrated using a pendulum shipping line as an example.The results indicate that infeasible solutions will increase and the model robustness will be enhanced by an increased penalty coefficient and the solution robustness will be enhanced by increasing the preference coefficient.The optimization model simultaneously considers demand uncertainty,model robustness,and risk preference of the decision maker to agree better with actual practices.展开更多

In this paper, the problem of retrieving containers...Arranging the retrieving sequence and making the operational plans for gantry cranes to enhance port efficiency have become vital issues for the container terminals. In this paper, the problem of retrieving containers from a yard in a given sequence is discussed as an important part of the ship-loading process. This problem is divided into three categories according to its optimization complexity, i.e., the retrieval problem of a crane with a single spreader(ACSS), the retrieval problem of a crane with multiple spreaders(ACMS), and the retrieval problem of multiple cranes with a single spreader(MCSS). Firstly, heuristic algorithms are proposed to develop a retrieving sequence for ACSS to reduce the operational time. Then, optimizing the assignment to multiple spreaders is conducted by exchanging the movements of the obtained retrieving sequence. Finally, the movements are further assigned to two cranes and integrated with the MCSS retrieval problem mentioned above.The numerical experiments show the effectiveness and practicability of the heuristic algorithms.展开更多

With the objective of minimizing the total cost, including the charging stations' cost (including installing cost and management cost) and the users' cost (including station access cost and charging cost), the proposed model simultaneously handles the problems where to locate the charging stations and how many chargers to be established in each charging station. Considering that different users may have different perception of station access cost and charging cost, two cases (i.e., homogeneous users and heterogeneous users) are typically investigated. The impacts of different discount rates, operating period of the charging stations, number of electric vehicles and number of charging stations on the location of the charging station are also studied. The simulation results not only show that it is very important to locate the charging stations according to the traveling behavior of users, but also verify the validity of the proposed model.展开更多

Based on multiple influencing factors such as the techno-economic status of ships, the investment capacity of company, the possible purchase of new ships, the buying/selling of second-hand vessels and the chartering/renting of ships, a mixed-integer programming model for fleet planning has been established. A large-sized shipping company is utilized to make an empirical study, and Benders decomposition algorithm is employed to test the applicability of the proposed model. The result shows that the model is capable for multi-route, multi-ship and large-scaled fleet planning and thus helpful to support the decision making of large-sized shipping companies.展开更多

This overlap provides passengers multiple choices for one trip. However, the availability of multiple options would cause uncertainty in the travel distribution of passengers. Given that buses and rail transits are becoming increasingly common, this paper aims to present the overlapped operation condition of bus and rail transit using a bi-level model from the perspective of bus operators. Frequency optimization model is established in the upper-level model. A heuristic algorithm called shuffled complex evolution(SCE-UA) method is used to solve the established frequency optimization model, and three other heuristic methods are compared with SCE-UA. A lower-level Logit model based on Agent simulation is set for traffic mode split. Data on the transit system in Dalian city are chosen as an example to test the feasibility of the model and the algorithm. Results show that as the overlapped optimization of bus route and rail transit routes changed primary bus frequency, the use of SCE-UA to solve such problems has evident advantages and feasibility; furthermore, changed bus frequency would improve bus operations.展开更多
With the unstructured grid, the Finite Volume Coastal Ocean Model(FVCOM) is converted from its original FORTRAN code to a Compute Unified Device Architecture(CUDA) C code, and optimized on the Graphic Processor U...With the unstructured grid, the Finite Volume Coastal Ocean Model(FVCOM) is converted from its original FORTRAN code to a Compute Unified Device Architecture(CUDA) C code, and optimized on the Graphic Processor Unit(GPU). The proposed GPU-FVCOM is tested against analytical solutions for two standard cases in a rectangular basin, a tide induced flow and a wind induced circulation. It is then applied to the Ningbo's coastal water area to simulate the tidal motion and analyze the flow field and the vertical tide velocity structure. The simulation results agree with the measured data quite well. The accelerated performance of the proposed 3-D model reaches 30 times of that of a single thread program, and the GPU-FVCOM implemented on a Tesla k20 device is faster than on a workstation with 20 CPU cores, which shows that the GPU-FVCOM is efficient for solving large scale sea area and high resolution engineering problems.展开更多

From the perspective of shipping company, an optimal set of refueling schemes for a ship fleet operating on different voyage charter routes is an important decision. To address this issue, this paper presents an approach to optimize the refueling scheme and the ship deployment simultaneously with considering the trend of fuel price fluctuations. Firstly, an ARMA model is applied to forecast a time serials of the fuel prices. Then a mixed-integer nonlinear programming model is proposed to maximize total operating profit of the shipping company. Finally, a case study on a charter company with three bulk carriers and three voyage charter routes is conducted. The results show that the optimal solution saves the cost of 437,900 USD compared with the traditional refueling scheme, and verify the rationality and validity of the model.展开更多
