Vehicle delay is an important measure to evaluate the signal timings of signalized intersections.When optimization the signal control parameters, delays of vehicles from all approach directions of an intersection should be considered. Based on the analysis of the vehicle delay on an approach of intersection, directed against the typical condition of a congested intersection-over-saturated condition, the paper has analyzed and inferred the intersection delay dynamic formulation, and has established the relation between intersection delay,the signal timings, vehicle arrival rate and the queue lengths, and that provides useful information for understanding vehicle delay of signalized intersection and for establishing performance index function of signal timing optimization. 展开更多

SPIO-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging for differentiating metastatic from hyperplastic lymph nodes: A study in rabbits

Objective: To investigate the potential of superparamagnetic iron oxide particles (SPIO) in MR imaging for the differentiation between hyperplastic and metastatic lymph node. Methods: Animal models of malignant lymph node metastasis were established in 6 New-Zealand rabbits by a unilateral intra-muscular injection of VX2 carcinoma cells, and models of hyperplastic lymph nodes were induced in another 6 rabbits by a unilateral intra-muscular injection of egg yolk emulsion. MR images of the lymph nodes were obtained before and 12 h after interstitial injection of SPIO. Image results were analyzed and compared with pathological findings. Results: On unenhanced images, the signal intensity of hyperplastic and metastatic lymph nodes did not differ significantly. After administration of SPIO, the signal intensity of both hyperplastic and metastatic lymph nodes remained unchanged on T1-weighted SE images. On T2-weighted SE images, the signal intensity of hyperplastic lymph nodes decreased heterogeneously, while that of all metastatic ones remained unchanged. On T2-weighted GRE images, the signal intensity of hyperplastic lymph nodes decreased significantly and homogeneously, while that of 4 metastatic ones remained unchanged and that of the rest 2 decreased heterogeneously. Conclusion: SPIO-enhanced MR imaging may enable the differentiation between the hyperplastic and metastatic lymph nodes. 展开更多

This article explores the method of edge detection by the multiscale product (MP) of the wavelet transform. The wavelet used in this work is the first derivative of a bidimensional Gaussian function. InitiaRy, we construct the wavelet, then we present the MP approach which is applied to binary and grey levels images. This method is compared with other methods without noise and in the presence of noise. The experiment results show fhht the MP method for edge detection outPerforms conventional methods even in noisy environments. 展开更多

With this model, the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) based high rate digital communication over low-voltage powerline is analyzed and simulated. The capability of the signal transmission system in overcoming multi-path interference and selection of the system parameters are discussed. And time-domain simulation is carried out to investigate the transmission capability of the OFDM communication system for different mapping schemes and transmission power levels. Simulation results show that it is possible to realize high rate digital communication over low-voltage powerline using OFDM when the transmitted power is large enough. 展开更多

Oral Gd-DTPA as a negative gastrointestinal contrast agent in magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography

Objective: To evaluate the value of oral Gd-DTPA as a negative contrast agent during magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) to eliminate the high signals of the gastrointestinal tract. Methods: To select the optimal concentration of oral Gd-DTPA for MRCP, a phantom study was performed followed by clinical trial in 15 cases undergoing MRCP before and after oral Gd-DTPA (in a total volume of 250 ml 1∶5 diluted Gd-DTPA, 1.488 g/L). MRCP images were acquired using two-dimensional single slice fast spin-echo (SSTSE) sequence and half-Fourier acquisition single slice fast spin-echo (HASTE) sequence. Results: The phantom study showed that the 1∶5 diluted oral Gd-DTPA was best in decreasing the signal intensity both in T2-weighted imaging (59.5%) and in HASTE sequence (82.45%). The high signal intensity of the stomach and intestinal fluid was completely suppressed in all the cases. The depictions of the common bile duct and pancreatic duct were markedly improved by using the oral contrast agent (P<0.05). Conclusion: Oral Gd-DTPA is effective and safe for eliminating the high signal of the gastrointestinal tract to improve the depiction of the biliary system by MRCP. 展开更多

Early diagnosis remains highly important for efficient cancer treatment, and hence, there is significant interest in the development of effective imaging strategies. This work reports a new multimodal bioimaging method for accurate and rapid diagnosis of cancer cells by introducing aqueous Fe^2+ and Zn^2+ ions into cancer cells (i.e., HeLa, U87, and HepG2 cancer cells). We found that the biocompatible metal ions Fe^2+ and Zn^2+ forced the cancer cells to spontaneously synthesize fluorescent ZnO nanoclusters and magnetic Fe3O4 nanoclusters. These clusters could then be used for multimodal cancer imaging by combining fluorescence imaging with magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography imaging. Meanwhile, for normal cells (i.e., L02) and tissues, neither fluorescence nor any other obvious difference could be detected between pre- and post-injection. This multimodal bioimaging strategy based on the in situ biosynthesized Zn&Fe oxide nanoclusters might therefore be useful for early cancer diagnosis and therapy. 展开更多

Polyclonal antibodies directed against human recombinant basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) were used in immunohistochemical studies to localize this growth factor in normal and wounded rat skeletal muscles. bFGF immunoreactivity was found mainly in the extracellular matrix, primarily in the endomysium, including the heparin-containing basal lamina and also in the capillary basal membrane of both normal and wounded muscles, however the signal intensity was much stronger in normal muscles. After 4-hour ischemia, about 40% of skeletal muscle fibers lost their bFGF immunoreactivity. Muscles which experienced 4-hour ischemia and 24 reperfusion had only a weaker bFGF immunoreactivity. The pathological results supported the concept of destroyed cell connection and fiber necrosis in ischemia and reperfused muscles. The mechanisms involved in this reduced concentration of bFGF in wounded muscles included oxygen radical activation, inflammatory response and reduced secretion of endogenous bFGF. These results were only partially compatible with the established mitogenic role of this protein and suggested that a reduction of endogenous FGF may partly contribute to a delay in wound healing. 展开更多

The principle of broad-band orthogonal-pump (BOP) four-wave mixing in semiconductor optical amplifiers is analyzed in theory. The conversion efficiency reduces rapidly as the detuning of wavelength between the signal and pump increase which can be solved by introducing a BOP method. The constant conversion efficiency and signal-to-noise ratio are obtained over a large wavelength detuning range. The wavelength conversion efficiency with variation smaller than 3.88 dB over 52-nm range has been experimentally demonstrated by using BOP, with the 10-GHz output of distributed feedback/electro-absorption modulator as signal. Conventional single-pump scheme is also performed for comparison and the experimental results fit well with the theory. 展开更多
