In this paper the penalty element and the virtual beam element are proposed to handle the weak connection between the shell element and the 3-D solid element to take weld effects into account in stress analysis. In the mixed finite element method model presented here, the weld zone is discreted by plate-shell elements and 3D isoparametric elements. Numerical calculations have been performed for T-joint. The results obtained with this model are verified by experimental data. The location of the hot spot and stress concentration factors are greatly affected by the shape and size of the weld. 展开更多
