(Hypocreaceae, Ascomycetes). The red pigment is soluble in most of the common organic solvents. It is readily soluble in both chloroform and acetone, somewhat soluble in hot light petroleum, but insoluble in water. When the acetone solution of this compound was exposed to light, it would combine with two oxygen atoms and turn into a yellowish-red compound like cladochrome.
