We have studied the effect of the spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) on gain of lasing without inversion (LWI) in a closed three-level A-type atomic system with Doppler broadening. It is shown that, regardless of the driving and probe fields being co- or counter-propagating, at a suitable value of the Doppler width, we can obtain a much larger LWI gain with SGC than that without SGC; and the region of the LWI gain spectrum with SGC is obviously larger than that without SGC. When the Doppler width takes a constant value, the gain does not monotonically decrease or increase with increasing strength of SGC, the largest LWI gain can be obtained by adjusting strength of SGC. Generally speaking, the co-propagating probe and driving fields is favourable to obtain a larger LWI gain. 展开更多

Effects of relative phase on transient evolution in an open resonant ladder-type atomic system

In an open ladder-type resonant atomic system, variation in relative phase between probe and driving fields does not affect the transient evolution of populations, but it has remarkable effects on gain and dispersion ... In an open ladder-type resonant atomic system, variation in relative phase between probe and driving fields does not affect the transient evolution of populations, but it has remarkable effects on gain and dispersion of the probe field. No matter whether an incoherent pump is present or absent, transient and stationary gains without inversion (GWI) always can be obtained by choosing an appropriate value of the relative phase. When the incoherent pump is absent, the values of transient and stationary GWIs are much larger and the time interval required to reach the stationary value is longer than those when the incoherent pump is present. Varying the exit rate and the ratio between injection rates can obviously change the phase-dependent GWI. In addition, in the transient evolution process, the phenomenon of high dispersion (refractive index) without absorption occurs at some values of relative phase. In the corresponding closed system, the stationary GWI can be obtained by choosing an appropriate value of relative phase only when incoherent pump exists, moreover the gain is smaller than that in the open system. 展开更多

A study is made of the effects of Doppler broadening on pure gain without inversion, which means that neither one-photon nor two-photon inversions are allowed, and non-pure gain without inversion, which means that one-photon inversion does not occur but two-photon inversion is present, in a closed A-type three-level system with incoherent pumping. It is shown that when the driving field is resonant but the probe field is not, in a certain range of Doppler width, for the case of the lower degree of frequency up-conversion, generally, pure gain without inversion increases monotonically and non-pure gain without inversion does not monotonically increase or decrease with increasing Doppler width; for the case of the higher degree of frequency up-conversion, pure gain without inversion decreases monotonically but non-pure gain without inversion cannot be produced. In the case of two-photon resonance, in some range of Doppler width, pure gain without inversion does not monotonically increase or decrease while non-pure gain without inversion decreases monotonically with Doppler width increasing. The population transfer in a ladder-type atomic system driven by linearly polarized sech-shape femtosecond laser pulses is investigated by numerically solving Schr6dinger equation without including the rotating wave approximation (RWA). It is shown that population transfer is mainly determined by the Rabi frequency (strength) of the driving laser field and the chirp rate, and that the ratio of the dipole moments and the pulse width also have a prominent effect on the population transfer. A novel resource,i.e.measurement-induced nonlocality,was proposed by Luo and Fu [Phys.Rev.Lett.106(2011)120401].It can directly reflect the usefulness of quantum nonlocality in quantum protocols.We investigate the dynamics of measurement-induced nonlocality by exactly solving a model which consists of two independent atoms each subject to a zero-temperature muti-mode cavity.We find that the dynamics of measurement-induced nonlocality is discontinuity under some special conditions.The reason for this phenomenon is the constraint of the von Neumann measurements which do not disturb the reduced density operator.We also find the sudden death phenomenon and the sudden birth phenomenon. 展开更多

A robust quantum state transfer scheme is discussed for three atoms that are trapped by separated cavities linked via optical fibers in a ring connection. It is shown that, under the effective three-atom Ising model, an arbitrary unknown quantum state can be transferred from one atom to another deterministically via an auxiliary atom with maximum unit fidelity. The only required operation for this scheme is replicating turning on/off the local laser fields applied to the atoms for two steps with time cost √2π/Γ0. The scheme is insensitive to cavity leakage and atomic position due to the condition Δ≈κ》g. Another advantage of this scheme is that the cooperative influence of spontaneous emission and operating time error can reduce the time cost for maximum fidelity and thus can speed up the implementation of quantum state transfer. 展开更多

Many quantum systems of interest are initially correlated with their environments and the reduced dynamics of open systems are an interesting while challenging topic. Affine maps, as an extension of completely positive maps, are a useful tool to describe the reduced dynamics of open systems with initial correlations. However, it is unciear what kind of initial state shares an affine map. In this study, we give a sumcient condition of initial states, in which the reduced dynamics can always be described by an affihe map. Our result shows that if the initial states of the combined system constitute a convex set, and if the correspondence between the initial states of the open system and those of the combined system, defined by taking the partial trace, is a bijection, then the reduced dynamics of the open system can be described by an affine map. 展开更多
