Based on three dimensions of discourse as the cognitive, se-mantic and pragmatic metaphorical characteristics, we could make a comprehensive analysis, and reveals the significance of thesefeatures in the study of discourse coherence. It studies the formation of metaphors at first, and the various causes of the formation ofmetaphor. Then it analyses the relationship between the images and how a text progress step by step. And then, it explores the prin-ciple of consistency and continuity in the discourse. The last chapter is to discuss the relationship between the metaphor of someimages and discourse coherence. After that, it can be concluded that metaphor can bridge the former and the following of the wholearticle,make the chapter go on more smoothly and focus on the central meaning of the whole article.展开更多
