The two episodes of molybdenum deposition in this district are distinct from each other in geological setting, relation with magmatic rocks, the type of ore deposit, wallrock alteration, as well as mineral and element...The two episodes of molybdenum deposition in this district are distinct from each other in geological setting, relation with magmatic rocks, the type of ore deposit, wallrock alteration, as well as mineral and element assemblages. Geological and geochemical evidence indicates that the two episodes of molybdenum mineralization and related acid-lntermediate magmatic rocks resulted from a common source deep in the crust and were accompanied by the north-east striking deep fault activity during the Yeushanian cycle. Osinm, platinum and palladium have all been detected in molybdenite. Higher contents of these metals are found in three mineral associations (molybdenite-chalcopyrite-magnetite, molybdenite-bornite-chalcopyrite, and scheelite-molyhdenite). The order of enrichment of platinun metals in various molybdenum ore associations are:Os>Pt > Pd>Ru>Rh>Ir. Variation in platinum and palladium contents in molybdenite is found to be related to the type of ore deposit and to ore assemblages.Osmium content in molybdenite is a function of the age of molybdenite (the older the molybdcnite, the higher its osmium content) and the Os/Re ratio may serve as an indicater for geological age. Three polytypes of molybdenite [2H1, 2H(♀), and 2H, + 3R] have been recognized, each of which is characterized by crystal structure, occurrence, physical and chemical properties. The molybdenite polymorphism is attributed to temperature of formation and to the rate at which crystallization took place and can therefore be regarded as an indieater for the ore-forming environments.展开更多
