For quite some time,English teaching has been aiming at the training of grammar and lexical words,and stress teaching has been largely ignored.However,as English communicative function is playing a more and more vital role in recent years,great impor-tance has been attached to stress in English teaching and learning. Based on the theory of English stress pattern,this study investigates the stress features of middle school students from the per-spectives of pitch and duration prominence on content words and function words. In addition,this study makes a comparison between Chinese and English stress patterns,and offers some pedagogical sugges-tions.English stress requires more attention in English teaching and learning. It is also recommended that the teachers guide the students to use stress in various contexts and offer them more trainings.展开更多
