We selected 28 populations of Leucaena leucocephala from different geographical locations in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Orissa of India on the basis of height and girth at breast height (GBH). We evaluated fiber length, optical density, wall thickness, vessel element length, vessel element diameter, specific gravity and lignin of these populations of L. leucocephala in different sites. Populations had significant variations for all growth, wood and paper parameters. Girth at breast height (GBH) and specific gravity were the most important pa- rameters for heritability and genetic gain, respectively. The minimum heritability was reported for vessel element length and genetic gain for fiber length. The populations were grouped into six clusters, cluster II had maximum number of populations (14) and clusters IV and VI had one population each. GBH contributed maximum of 34.39 % towards total divergence followed by specific gravity (14.02%). An economic technique to produce quality seed by establishing seed orchards with genetically divergent parents was suggested. The hybridization among the populations selected from diverse clusters could produce greater heterosis needed for higher growth and suitable wood and paper manu- facturing parameters. 展开更多

We report a comparative study on photo-crystallization in a-Se95 Te5 and a-Se95In5 alloys. The photo-crystallization is achieved by a shining white line on the thin films of these alloys in vacuum for different exposure times. The results indicate that photo-crystallization is fast in a-Se95In5 alloy as compared to a-Se95 Te5 alloy. This is explained in terms of lower thermal stability of a-Se95In5 alloy as compared to a-Se95 Te5 alloy. 展开更多

Rice physiological sensitivity to drought and its impact on crop productivity in water-limited environments are well-documented (O'Toole, 2004). However, rice yields in drought-prone rainfed lowlands and most

The Hospital Assessment Tool (HAT) is an assessment technique that provides technical support to the healthcare industry for accessing solid waste generation, selecting products, and work practices to eliminate or reduce environmental hazards and solid waste, and to maintain quality patient care. Since 2007, this tool has been applied as part of an innovative partnership between the Lucas County Solid Waste Management District and College of Engineering of the University of Toledo. The purpose of this paper is to provide a complete overview and framework of this program and the HAT so that other institutions may learn from it and adopt similar concepts to help reduce solid waste generation and improve economic conditions in their regions. A focus of this paper is a discussion of a case study that details the process and results of an assessment conducted at a large hospital in Northwest, Ohio, USA. Also, included in this paper is a discussion of the project's background, a comparison to similar project's between colleges and government agencies, and results and benefits of the program, and an overview of the opportunities and barriers to this type of research. The project demonstrates that through a cooperative effort and a creative alliance, businesses, governments, universities, and industries can work together to improve environmental quality, reduce waste, and improve profitability. The project also educates college students through practical, real-world environmental work experience and trains them to become future environmental leaders 展开更多

We report on the observation of Meyer-Neldel rule in glassy Se75Ge20Ag5 alloy where AE is varied by two different methods. In the first approach, the intensity of light varies while measuring the photoconductivity in amorphous thin films of Se75Ge20Ag5 instead of changing composition of the glassy system. In the second approach, the variation of ac conductivity with temperature is found to be exponential and the activation energy is found to vary with frequency. 展开更多
