The reflection and transmission of plane waves from a fluid-piezothermoelastic solid interface are studied. The expressions for amplitude ratios and energy ratios corresponding to reflected waves and transmitted waves are derived analytically. The piezothermoelastic solid half-space is assumed to have 6 mm type symmetry and assumed to be loaded with water. The effects of angle of the incidence, the frequency, the specific heat, the relaxation time, and the thermal conductivity on the reflected and transmitted energy ratios are studied numerically for a particular model of cadmium selenide (CdSe) and water. The uniqueness theorem and the theorem of reciprocity in the linearized porous piezoelectricity are established under the assumption of positive definiteness of elastic and electric fields. General theorems in the linear theory of porous piezoelectric materials are proved for the quasi-static electric field approximation. The uniqueness theorem is also proved without using the positive definiteness of the elastic field. An eigenvalue problem associated with free vibrations of a porous piezoelectric body is stud- ied using the abstract formulation. Some properties of operators are also proved. The problem of frequency shift due to small disturbances, based on an abstract formulation, is studied using a variational and operator approach. The propagation of a Bleustein-Gulyaev (B-G) type wave in a structure consisting of multiple layers and a half-space of porous piezoelectric materials is theoreti- cally studied. The solutions of the problem in terms of the mechanical displacements and electric potential functions are obtained for each layer and the half-space. The dispersion equation is obtained for electrically open and shorted boundary conditions by use of the transfer matrix method. A peculiar kind of B-G waves is investigated, which can propagate only in the layer over the half-space. The relationship between the piezoelectric constants and the dielectric constants is found for the existence of a peculiar kind of propagation modes. The numerical results in terms of the phase velocity and the electromechanical coupling factor with different thicknesses of the layer stack are presented. 展开更多

This study discusses wave propagation in perhaps the most general model of a poroelastic medium. The medium is considered as a viscoelastic, anisotropic and porous solid frame such that its pores of anisotropic permeability are filled with a viscous fluid. The anisotropy considered is of general type, and the attenuating waves in the medium are treated as the inhomogeneous waves. The complex slowness vector is resolved to define the phase velocity, homogeneous attenuation, inhomogeneous attenuation, and angle of attenuation for each of the four attenuating waves in the medium. A non-dimensional parameter measures the deviation of an inhomogeneous wave from its homogeneous version. An numerical model of a North-Sea sandstone is used to analyze the effects of the propagation direction, inhomogeneity parameter, frequency regime, anisotropy symmetry, anelasticity of the frame, and viscosity of the pore-fluid on the propagation characteristics of waves in such a medium. 展开更多
