Graphene oxide(GO)has recently attracted substantial interest as a possible reinforcing agent for next generation rubber composite materials.In this research,GO was incorporated in natural rubber(NR)composites through...Graphene oxide(GO)has recently attracted substantial interest as a possible reinforcing agent for next generation rubber composite materials.In this research,GO was incorporated in natural rubber(NR)composites through latex co-coagulation technique.The microstructures of GO/NR composites were characterized through a combination of transmission electron microscope,scanning electron microscope,X-ray diffraction,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,and Differential scanning calorimeter.The results showed that highly exfoliated GO sheets were finely dispersed into NR rubber matrix with strong interface interaction between GO and NR.The mechanical properties of the GO/NR composites were further evaluated.The results showed that the tensile strength,tear strength and modulus can be significantly improved at a content of less than 2 phr.Especially,GO exhibited specific reinforce mechanism in NR due to the stress-induced crystallization effects of NR.The stress transfer from the NR to the GO sheets and the hindrance of GO sheets to the stress-induced crystallization of NR were further displayed in stress-strain behavior of GO/NR composites.These enhanced properties were attributed to the high surface area of GO sheets and highly exfoliated microstructures of GO sheets in NR.展开更多

Methods The acute toxicity values of...To measure the 96h-LC50 values of 32 substituted benzenes to the carp and to study the relationship between quantitative structure-activity and structural parameters of chemicals. Methods The acute toxicity values of 32 substituted benzenes to the carp were determined in a semistatic test. The energy of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital, and the highest occupied molecular orbital, the dipole moment and the molecular weight of substituted benzenes were calculated by the quantum chemical method MOPAC6.0. Results The range of the toxicity of studied compounds was broad, and the most toxic compound was pentachlorophenol, while the least toxic compound was 4-methylaniline. By the stepwise regression analyses, a series of Quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR) equations were derived from all compounds and subclasses. The equation log1/LC50=0.759logP +2.222 (R2 (adj)=0.818) was found to fit well and the average predicted percentage error was 6.16%. Conclusion The toxicity of anilines and phenols to the carp could be modeled well by logP alone, whereas the toxicity of the halogenated benzenes and nitrobenznes not containing hydroxyl or amino group can be controlled by hydrophobic and electronic factors.展开更多
OBJECTIVE To evaluate if RNA helicase DDX20,highly expressed in triple negative breast cancer(TNBC)cells,could serve as a surrogate marker for simvastatin treatment response.METHODS We first assessed correlation betwe...OBJECTIVE To evaluate if RNA helicase DDX20,highly expressed in triple negative breast cancer(TNBC)cells,could serve as a surrogate marker for simvastatin treatment response.METHODS We first assessed correlation between 17 mevalonate pathway-related genes and expression of DDX20 in a cohort of 1325 breast cancer tumors.TNBC cells,MDA-MB-231,were then treated with simvastatin and mevalonate pathway intermediates to assess the alteration in DDX20 expression.In the mouse model,MDA-MB-231 cells were injected to tail veins of mice,groups of 8mice each were injected intraperioneally with vehicle or simvastatin 25mg·kg-1 3times a week for 6weeks.The number of metastatic colonies formed was quantified and immunohistochemical(IHC)staining of DDX20 was carried out in the lung tissues.RESULTS Among the 17 genes evaluated,positive correlation with DDX20 expression was observed in eight of them,with HMGCR having the highest correlation.Our in vitro experiments show exposure of breast cancer cells to simvastatin lead to a Rho-dependent decrease in gene expression of DDX20,leading to decreased tumor proliferation in a mevalonate pathway-dependent manner.Conversely,ectopic overexpression of DDX20 significantly abrogated the anti-metastatic activity of simvastatin.A similar observation is seen in the mouse model,where simvastatin-injected mice show significantly fewer visible lung metastases compared to placebo-fed mice.IHC staining on these lung tissues showed decreased DDX20 expression in simvastatin-injected group,corroborating our observations in vitro.CONCLUSION DDX20 is a potential surrogate marker for simvastatin treatment response in breast cancer and a long term implication of our findings is the possibility of an effective combinatorial therapeutic intervention using statins(to suppress DDX20 gene expression)and a suitable firstline agent″for the kill″of invasive breast cancer.展开更多

Industrial coking facilities are an important emission source for volatile organic compounds(VOCs).This study analyzed the atmospheric VOC characteristics within an industrial coking facility and its surrounding envir...Industrial coking facilities are an important emission source for volatile organic compounds(VOCs).This study analyzed the atmospheric VOC characteristics within an industrial coking facility and its surrounding environment.Average concentrations of total VOCs(TVOCs)in the surrounding residential activity areas(R1 and R2),the coking facility(CF)and the control area(CA)were determined to be 138.5,47.8,550.0,and 15.0μg/m^(3),respectively.The cold drum process and coking and quenching areas within the coking facility were identified as the main polluting processes.The spatial variation in VOCs composition was analyzed,showing that VOCs in the coking facility and surrounding areas were mainly dominated by aromatic compounds such as BTX(benzene,toluene,and xylenes)and naphthalene,with concentrations being negatively correlated with the distance from the coking facility(p<0.01).The sources of VOCs in different functional areas across the monitoring area were analyzed,finding that coking emissions accounted for 73.5%,33.3% and 27.7% of TVOCs in CF,R1 and R2,respectively.These results demonstrated that coking emissions had a significant impact on VOC concentrations in the areas surrounding coking facility.This study evaluates the spatial variation in exposure to VOCs,providing important information for the influence of VOCs concentration posed by coking facility to surrounding residents and the development of strategies for VOC abatement.展开更多

Some theortant experimental results of the instantaneous measurements of the velocity and the pressure in the MPTR with two-bypass tubes during actual operation are presented. The effects of the middle-bypass version on the dynamic pressure and mass flow rate at the cold end of the pulse tube are evaluated from experimental measurements.DC-flow phenomena are observed in this MPTR. The reasons of the multi-bypass version improved the performance of pulse tube refrigerator are given.展开更多
