BACKGROUND Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma(UPS)is a rare malignant mesenchymal tumor with a poor prognosis.It mainly occurs in the extremities,trunk,head and neck,and retroperitoneum regions.Owing to the lack of ...BACKGROUND Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma(UPS)is a rare malignant mesenchymal tumor with a poor prognosis.It mainly occurs in the extremities,trunk,head and neck,and retroperitoneum regions.Owing to the lack of specific clinical manifestations and imaging features,UPS diagnosis mainly depends on pathological and immunohistochemical examinations for exclusive diagnosis.Here we report an extremely rare case of high-grade UPS in the common bile duct(CBD).There are limited available data on such cases.CASE SUMMARY A 70-year-old woman was admitted to our department with yellow eyes and urine accompanied by upper abdominal distending pain for 2 wk.Her laboratory data suggested significantly elevated hepatorenal function levels.The imaging data revealed calculous cholecystitis,intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile duct dilation with extrahepatic bile duct calculi,and a space-occupying lesion at the distal CBD.After endoscopic biliary stenting and symptomatic support therapy,CBD exploration and biopsy were performed.The frozen section indicated malignant spindle cell tumor of the CBD mass,and further radical pancreaticoduodenectomy was performed.Finally,the neoplasm was diagnosed as a high-grade UPS combined with the light-microscopic morphology and immunohistochemical results.CONCLUSION This extremely rare case highlighted the need for increasing physicians'vigilance,reducing the odds of misdiagnosis,and providing appropriate treatment strategies.展开更多
BACKGROUND Carcinosarcoma of the gallbladder is a rare malignant tumor with a very poor prognosis.To date,only approximately 100 patients have been reported in the English literature.The prognosis of this tumor type i...BACKGROUND Carcinosarcoma of the gallbladder is a rare malignant tumor with a very poor prognosis.To date,only approximately 100 patients have been reported in the English literature.The prognosis of this tumor type is poor,the preoperative diagnosis is difficult,and there is a possibility of a misdiagnosis.We present an unsuccessful case of carcinosarcoma of the gallbladder with a preoperative misdiagnosis and rapid early postoperative recurrence.Therefore,we have a deeper understanding of the poor prognosis of gallbladder carcinosarcoma(GBC)patients.CASE SUMMARY The patient is a 65-year-old male.He was admitted to the hospital because of right upper abdomen distending pain and discomfort for half a month.Abdominal magnetic resonance imaging revealed a polycystic mass in the right lobe of the liver and the fossa of the gallbladder.After admission,the patient was diagnosed with a liver abscess,which was treated by abscess puncture drainage.Obviously,this treatment was unsuccessful.Hepatectomy and cholecystectomy were performed one month after the puncture.Postoperative pathologic examination revealed carcinosarcoma of the gallbladder,and the resected specimen contained two tumor components.One month after surgery,the patient's tumor recurred in situ and started to compress the duodenum,resulting in duodenal obstruction and bleeding.The treatment was not effective.The patient died of gastrointestinal hemorrhage and hypovolemic shock.CONCLUSION Carcinosarcoma of the gallbladder is a rare malignant tumor that is easily misdiagnosed preoperatively and has a poor prognosis.展开更多

BACKGROUND Numerous studies have found that patients experiencing sudden sensorineural hearing loss(SSHL),with or without accompanying vertigo,often show impaired vestibular function.However,there is a dearth of studi...BACKGROUND Numerous studies have found that patients experiencing sudden sensorineural hearing loss(SSHL),with or without accompanying vertigo,often show impaired vestibular function.However,there is a dearth of studies analyzing vestibularevoked myogenic potentials(VEMPs)in SSHL patients across various age groups.AIM To investigate vestibular condition in SSHL patients across various age demographics.METHODS Clinical data of 84 SSHL patients were investigated retrospectively.Audiometry,cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potentials(c-VEMPs),and ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potentials(o-VEMPs)were conducted on these patients.Parameters assessed included the latencies of P1 and N1 waves,as well as the amplitudes of P1–N1 waves.Moreover,the study evaluated the influence of factors such as sex,affected side,configuration of hearing loss,and presence of accompanying vertigo.RESULTS Among the 84 SSHL patients,no significant differences were observed among the three groups in terms of gender,affected side,and the presence or absence of vertigo.Group II(aged 41–60 years)had the highest number of SSHL cases.The rates of absent o-VEMPs in the affected ears were 20.83%,31.58%,and 22.72%for the three age groups,respectively,with no statistically significant difference among them.The rates of absent c-VEMPs in the affected ears were 8.3%,34.21%,and 18.18%for the three age groups,respectively,with significant differences.In the unaffected ears,there were differences observed in the extraction rates of o-VEMPs in the unaffected ears among the age groups.In the three age groups,no significant differences were noted in the three age groups in the latencies of P1 and N1 waves or in the amplitude of N1–P1 waves for c-VEMPs and o-VEMPs,either on the affected side or on the unaffected side,across the three age groups.CONCLUSION The extraction rate of VEMPs is more valuable than parameters.Regardless of the presence of vertigo,vestibular organs are involved in SSHL.Notably,SSHL patients aged 41–60 appear more susceptible to damage to the inferior vestibular nerve and saccule.展开更多
Background:Cisplatin is a chemotherapeutic agent commonly used clinically for the treatment of various human cancers.Patients often reduce the use of cisplatin due to its side effects,which in turn affects its treatme...Background:Cisplatin is a chemotherapeutic agent commonly used clinically for the treatment of various human cancers.Patients often reduce the use of cisplatin due to its side effects,which in turn affects its treatment.This study explored the mechanism of action of safflower extract as an adjuvant traditional Chinese medicine for chemotherapy.Methods:Primary human follicle dermal papilla cells(HFDPCs)were used as target cells for cisplatininduced damage to hair cells.Western blotting was used to investigate the molecular targets of cisplatin and safflower extract in causing HFDPCs damage.Cell survival and cell cycle were analyzed by mitochondrial staining reagent WST-1 and propidium iodide.Results:Cisplatin could reduce the viability of HFDPCs without causing cell death.Cisplatin increased the level of phospho-Rad17 in HFDPCs and activated the Chk1/Cdc25C signaling to reduce the expression of Cdc2 protein,thereby arresting the cells in the G2/M phase.The combination of safflower extract and the flavonoids could effectively inhibit the signal transduction of Rad17/Chk1/Cdc25 in cisplatin-treated cells and reduce the cell population in the G2/M phase.Finally,we also confirmed that safflower extract could effectively inhibit the damage to HFDPCs caused by cisplatin,mainly at the level of reducing the DNA damage caused by cisplatin.Conclusions:Safflower extract can be used as an adjuvant Chinese medicine for chemotherapy to reduce the damage caused by chemotherapy to normal hair follicle cells.展开更多
BACKGROUND Autophagy is associated with hippocampal injury following status epilepticus(SE)and is considered a potential therapeutic mechanism.Baicalin,an emerging multitherapeutic drug,has shown neuroprotective effec...BACKGROUND Autophagy is associated with hippocampal injury following status epilepticus(SE)and is considered a potential therapeutic mechanism.Baicalin,an emerging multitherapeutic drug,has shown neuroprotective effects in patients with nervous system diseases due to its antioxidant properties.AIM To investigate the potential role of autophagy in LiCl-pilocarpine-induced SE.METHODS The drugs were administered 30 min before SE.Nissl staining showed that Baicalin attenuated hippocampal injury and reduced neuronal death in the hippocampus.Western blotting and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling assay confirmed that Baicalin reversed the expression intensity of cleaved caspase-3 and apoptosis in hippocampal CA1 following SE.Furthermore,western blotting and immunofluorescence staining were used to measure the expression of autophagy markers(p62/SQSTM1,Beclin 1,and LC3)and apoptotic pathway markers(cleaved caspase-3 and Bcl-2).RESULTS Baicalin significantly upregulated autophagic activity and downregulated mitochondrial apoptotic pathway markers.Conversely,3-methyladenine,a commonly used autophagy inhibitor,was simultaneously administered to inhibit the Baicalin-induced autophagy,abrogating the protective effect of Baicalin on the mitochondrial apoptotic level.CONCLUSION We illustrated that Baicalin-induced activation of autophagy alleviates apoptotic death and protects the hippocampus of SE rats.展开更多

The patients were randomly assigned to receive TRE every day before taking medicine(TRE group) or no TRE(control group). The patients in the TRE group received regular instructions before taking medicine for the eradication of H. pylori during the entire courseof treatment through telephone calls. The patients in the control group received detailed instructions at the time of seeing a doctor for the guidance. The primary outcome was the H. pylori eradication rate after treatment. The secondary outcomes included the clinical remissions after treatment, adverse events, compliance, and patients' satisfaction.RESULTS: A total of 140 patients were randomized, 70 to the TRE group and 70 to the control group. As the primary outcome, the H. pylori eradication rates in the TRE and control groups were 62.7% and 71.2% in per protocol analysis(P = 0.230), and 52.9% and 52.9% in intention-to-treat analysis(P = 0.567), respectively. As the secondary outcomes, there were no significant differences in the patients' satisfaction between the two groups(good, 79.7% vs 76.9%; fair, 13.6% vs 19.2%; poor, 6.7% vs 3.9%, for the TRE group and control group, respectively; P > 0.05 for all); the rates of adverse effects were 15.2% and 63.5% in the TRE and control groups, respectively(P < 0.001); the compliance rates in the TRE and control groups were 85.7% and 74.3%, respectively(P = 0.069).CONCLUSION: Daily TRE before taking medicine had no significant impact on the patients' compliance, satisfaction, or H. pylori eradication, but reduced the rate of adverse events.展开更多
Hippocampal neurons undergo various forms of cell death after status epilepticus.Necrostatin-1 specifically inhibits necroptosis mediated by receptor interacting protein kinase 1 (RIP1) and RIP3 receptors.However,ther...Hippocampal neurons undergo various forms of cell death after status epilepticus.Necrostatin-1 specifically inhibits necroptosis mediated by receptor interacting protein kinase 1 (RIP1) and RIP3 receptors.However,there are no reports of necroptosis in mouse models of status epilepticus.Therefore,in this study,we investigated the effects of necrostatin-1 on hippocampal neurons in mice with status epilepticus,and,furthermore,we tested different amounts of the compound to identify the optimal concentration for inhibiting necroptosis and apoptosis.A mouse model of status epilepticus was produced by intraperitoneal injection of kainic acid,12 mg/kg.Different concentrations of necrostatin- 1 (10,20,40,and 80 μM) were administered into the lateral ventricle 15 minutes before kainic acid injection.Hippocampal damage was assessed by hematoxylin-eosin staining 24 hours after the model was successfully produced.Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling staining,western blot assay and immunohistochemistry were used to evaluate the expression of apoptosis-related and necroptosis-related proteins.Necrostatin-1 alleviated damage to hippocampal tissue in the mouse model of epilepsy.The 40 μM concentration of necrostatin-1 significantly decreased the number of apoptotic cells in the hippocampal CA1 region.Furthermore,necrostatin-1 significantly downregulated necroptosis-related proteins (MLKL,RIP1,and RIP3) and apoptosis-related proteins (cleaved-Caspase-3,Bax),and it upregulated the expression of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2.Taken together,our findings show that necrostatin-1 effectively inhibits necroptosis and apoptosis in mice with status epilepticus,with the 40 μM concentration of the compound having an optimal effect.The experiments were approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of Fujian Medical University,China (approval No.2016-032) on November 9,2016.展开更多
BACKGROUND Anastomosing hemangioma(AH)is a rare subtype of benign hemangioma that is most commonly found in the genitourinary tract.Due to the lack of specific clinical and radiologic manifestations,it is easily misdi...BACKGROUND Anastomosing hemangioma(AH)is a rare subtype of benign hemangioma that is most commonly found in the genitourinary tract.Due to the lack of specific clinical and radiologic manifestations,it is easily misdiagnosed preoperatively.Here,we report a case of AH arising from the left renal vein that was discovered incidentally and confirmed pathologically,and then describe its imaging characteristics from a radiologic point of view and review its clinicopathologic features and treatment.CASE SUMMARY A 74-year-old woman was admitted to our department for a left retroperitoneal neoplasm measuring 2.6 cm×2.0 cm.Her laboratory data showed no significant abnormalities.A non-contrast-enhanced computed tomography(CT)scan showed a heterogeneous density in the neoplasm.Non-contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)revealed a heterogeneous hypointensity on T1-weighed images and a heterogeneous hyperintensity on T2-weighed images.On contrastenhanced CT and MRI scans,the neoplasm presented marked septal enhancement in the arterial phase and persistent enhancement in the portal phase,and its boundary with the left renal vein was ill-defined.Based on these clinical and radiological manifestations,the neoplasm was initially considered to be a neurogenic neoplasm in the left retroperitoneum.Finally,the neoplasm was completely resected and pathologically diagnosed as AH.CONCLUSION AH is an uncommon benign hemangioma.Preoperative misdiagnoses are common not only because of a lack of specific clinical and radiologic manifestations but also because clinicians lack vigilance and diagnostic experience in identifying AH.AH is not exclusive to the urogenital parenchyma.We report the first case of this neoplasm in the left renal vein.Recognition of this entity in the left renal vein can be helpful in its diagnosis and distinction from other neoplasms.展开更多

A 64-year-old man was originally found poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma of right lung and received right lower lobectomy and lymph node dissection. Three years later, the patient presented to our emergency room with the symptom of upper abdominal pain and weight loss. Abdominal palpation and computed tomography scan of the abdomen revealed a large mass measuring 7.6 cm × 8.5 cm in the ascending colon. Colonoscopy and biopsy revealed poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma with similar morphological pattern to that of the previous lung cancer. Chemotherapy was given and the patient died 5 mo later. Lung cancer metastatic to the colon confers a poor prognosis: overall survival ranged from 5 wk to 1 year, with a median survival of 3 mo after the diagnosis of the colonic metastasis.展开更多

The exploration of the memristor model in the discrete domain is a fascinating hotspot.The electromagnetic induction on neurons has also begun to be simulated by some discrete memristors.However,most of the current in...The exploration of the memristor model in the discrete domain is a fascinating hotspot.The electromagnetic induction on neurons has also begun to be simulated by some discrete memristors.However,most of the current investigations are based on the integer-order discrete memristor,and there are relatively few studies on the form of fractional order.In this paper,a new fractional-order discrete memristor model with prominent nonlinearity is constructed based on the Caputo fractional-order difference operator.Furthermore,the dynamical behaviors of the Rulkov neuron under electromagnetic radiation are simulated by introducing the proposed discrete memristor.The integer-order and fractional-order peculiarities of the system are analyzed through the bifurcation graph,the Lyapunov exponential spectrum,and the iterative graph.The results demonstrate that the fractional-order system has more abundant dynamics than the integer one,such as hyper-chaos,multi-stable and transient chaos.In addition,the complexity of the system in the fractional form is evaluated by the means of the spectral entropy complexity algorithm and consequences show that it is affected by the order of the fractional system.The feature of fractional difference lays the foundation for further research and application of the discrete memristor and the neuron map in the future.展开更多
BACKGROUND Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura(TTP)is a life-threatening but treatable disorder.Acute pancreatitis is a well-described consequence of TTP,but TTP as a consequence of acute pancreatitis is rare.CASE SUM...BACKGROUND Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura(TTP)is a life-threatening but treatable disorder.Acute pancreatitis is a well-described consequence of TTP,but TTP as a consequence of acute pancreatitis is rare.CASE SUMMARY A 32-year-old male developed acute pancreatitis due to a fatty diet and suffered splenectomy 3 years ago due to trauma.From day 4 of his onset of pain the blood examination showed the platelet extremely reduced,bilirubin elevated and creatinine increased.High clinical suspicion of TTP was made and prompt initiation of plasma exchange was given followed intravenous drip methylprednisolone.After 7 sessions of plasm exchange and the laboratory parameters were back to normal and the patient was discharged from the hospital on the 13th day of admission.CONCLUSION Patients develop acute pancreatitis with no apparent causes for hemolytic anemia and thrombocytopenia,the possibility of TTP should be considered.Treatments for TTP including plasm exchange should be evaluated as soon as a diagnosis is made.展开更多
BACKGROUND Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(BPPV)is a form of temporary vertigo induced by moving the head to a specific position.It is a self-limited,peripheral,vestibular disease and can be divided into primary ...BACKGROUND Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(BPPV)is a form of temporary vertigo induced by moving the head to a specific position.It is a self-limited,peripheral,vestibular disease and can be divided into primary and secondary forms.Congenital nystagmus(CN),an involuntary,rhythmic,binocular-symmetry,conjugated eye movement,is found at birth or within 3 mo of birth.According to the pathogenesis,CN can be divided into sensory-defect nystagmus and motordefect nystagmus.The coexistence of BPPV and CN is rarely seen in the clinic.CASE SUMMARY A 62-year-old woman presented to our clinic complaining of a 15-d history of recurrent positional vertigo.The vertigo lasting less than 1 min occurred when she turned over,sometimes accompanied by nausea and vomiting.Both the patient and her father had CN.Her spontaneous nystagmus was horizontal to right;however,the gaze test revealed variable horizontal nystagmus with the same degree when the eyes moved.The patient’s Dix-Hallpike test was normal,except for persistent nystagmus,and the roll test showed severe variable horizontal nystagmus,which lasted for about 20 s in the same direction as her head movement to the right and left,although the right-side nystagmus was stronger than the left-side.Since these symptoms were accompanied by nausea,she was diagnosed with BPPV with CN and treated by manual reduction.CONCLUSION Though rare,if BPPV with CN is correctly identified and diagnosed,reduction treatment is comparably effective to other vertigo types.展开更多

Methods: Eighty patients received 124 SEMSs were retrospectively...Objectives: To present the complications of Ultraflex Self-Expandable Metallic Stents (SEMSs) applied in patients with benign tracheobronchial diseases. Methods: Eighty patients received 124 SEMSs were retrospectively reviewed in a tertiary hospital. Results: The baseline characteristics of patients received SEMS implantation including age (mean + standard deviation: 62.5 + 14.8 years), gender (male, 60.5%), smoking (46.8%), forced expiratory volume in first one second (FEV1) (mean + standard deviation, 0.92 +0.41 L/s), follow-up days after SEMS implantation (median (interquartile range);457 (131 - 897)) and covered SEMS (33.9%) were listed. Symptoms improved after SEMS implantation among 95 patients (76.6%). Time to complications developed was 236 (median;interquartile range, 59 - 672) days. The overall complication rate was 41.9% after SEMS implantation. The complications included SEMS migration (6.5%), granuloma (19.3%) and SEMS fracture (16.1%). Successful management rates of SEMS migration, granuloma and SEMS fracture were up to 100%, 83.3%, and 85% respectively. Conclusions: Patients received SEMS implantation due to benign conditions had poor lung function and were old. The complication rate in patients with benign conditions was high after longer follow-up period, however, successful management achieved in most patients with complications.展开更多

The antibacterial activity of the coatings was tested against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 292130) and Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922) by the dynamic shake method. These films with different content of ADIm were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and pencil hardness. It was found that the mechanical and thermal properties of these films were largely influenced by the content of ADIm in the films. Films with imidazolium bromide groups displayed excellent antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus with 100% killing efficiency.展开更多

文摘BACKGROUND Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma(UPS)is a rare malignant mesenchymal tumor with a poor prognosis.It mainly occurs in the extremities,trunk,head and neck,and retroperitoneum regions.Owing to the lack of specific clinical manifestations and imaging features,UPS diagnosis mainly depends on pathological and immunohistochemical examinations for exclusive diagnosis.Here we report an extremely rare case of high-grade UPS in the common bile duct(CBD).There are limited available data on such cases.CASE SUMMARY A 70-year-old woman was admitted to our department with yellow eyes and urine accompanied by upper abdominal distending pain for 2 wk.Her laboratory data suggested significantly elevated hepatorenal function levels.The imaging data revealed calculous cholecystitis,intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile duct dilation with extrahepatic bile duct calculi,and a space-occupying lesion at the distal CBD.After endoscopic biliary stenting and symptomatic support therapy,CBD exploration and biopsy were performed.The frozen section indicated malignant spindle cell tumor of the CBD mass,and further radical pancreaticoduodenectomy was performed.Finally,the neoplasm was diagnosed as a high-grade UPS combined with the light-microscopic morphology and immunohistochemical results.CONCLUSION This extremely rare case highlighted the need for increasing physicians'vigilance,reducing the odds of misdiagnosis,and providing appropriate treatment strategies.
文摘BACKGROUND Carcinosarcoma of the gallbladder is a rare malignant tumor with a very poor prognosis.To date,only approximately 100 patients have been reported in the English literature.The prognosis of this tumor type is poor,the preoperative diagnosis is difficult,and there is a possibility of a misdiagnosis.We present an unsuccessful case of carcinosarcoma of the gallbladder with a preoperative misdiagnosis and rapid early postoperative recurrence.Therefore,we have a deeper understanding of the poor prognosis of gallbladder carcinosarcoma(GBC)patients.CASE SUMMARY The patient is a 65-year-old male.He was admitted to the hospital because of right upper abdomen distending pain and discomfort for half a month.Abdominal magnetic resonance imaging revealed a polycystic mass in the right lobe of the liver and the fossa of the gallbladder.After admission,the patient was diagnosed with a liver abscess,which was treated by abscess puncture drainage.Obviously,this treatment was unsuccessful.Hepatectomy and cholecystectomy were performed one month after the puncture.Postoperative pathologic examination revealed carcinosarcoma of the gallbladder,and the resected specimen contained two tumor components.One month after surgery,the patient's tumor recurred in situ and started to compress the duodenum,resulting in duodenal obstruction and bleeding.The treatment was not effective.The patient died of gastrointestinal hemorrhage and hypovolemic shock.CONCLUSION Carcinosarcoma of the gallbladder is a rare malignant tumor that is easily misdiagnosed preoperatively and has a poor prognosis.

文摘Tazarotene-induced gene 1(TIG1)is induced by a derivative of vitamin A and is known to regulate many important biological processes and control the development of cancer.TIG1 is widely expressed in various tissues;yet in many cancer tissues,it is not expressed because of the methylation of its promoter.Additionally,the expression of TIG1 in cancer cells inhibits their growth and invasion,suggesting that TIG1 acts as a tumor suppressor gene.However,in some cancers,poor prognosis is associated with TIG1 expression,indicating its protumor growth characteristics,especially in promoting the invasion of inflammatory breast cancer cells.This review comprehensively summarizes the roles of the TIG1 gene in cancer development and details the mechanisms through which TIG1 regulates cancer development,with the aim of understanding its various roles in cancer development.

文摘BACKGROUND Numerous studies have found that patients experiencing sudden sensorineural hearing loss(SSHL),with or without accompanying vertigo,often show impaired vestibular function.However,there is a dearth of studies analyzing vestibularevoked myogenic potentials(VEMPs)in SSHL patients across various age groups.AIM To investigate vestibular condition in SSHL patients across various age demographics.METHODS Clinical data of 84 SSHL patients were investigated retrospectively.Audiometry,cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potentials(c-VEMPs),and ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potentials(o-VEMPs)were conducted on these patients.Parameters assessed included the latencies of P1 and N1 waves,as well as the amplitudes of P1–N1 waves.Moreover,the study evaluated the influence of factors such as sex,affected side,configuration of hearing loss,and presence of accompanying vertigo.RESULTS Among the 84 SSHL patients,no significant differences were observed among the three groups in terms of gender,affected side,and the presence or absence of vertigo.Group II(aged 41–60 years)had the highest number of SSHL cases.The rates of absent o-VEMPs in the affected ears were 20.83%,31.58%,and 22.72%for the three age groups,respectively,with no statistically significant difference among them.The rates of absent c-VEMPs in the affected ears were 8.3%,34.21%,and 18.18%for the three age groups,respectively,with significant differences.In the unaffected ears,there were differences observed in the extraction rates of o-VEMPs in the unaffected ears among the age groups.In the three age groups,no significant differences were noted in the three age groups in the latencies of P1 and N1 waves or in the amplitude of N1–P1 waves for c-VEMPs and o-VEMPs,either on the affected side or on the unaffected side,across the three age groups.CONCLUSION The extraction rate of VEMPs is more valuable than parameters.Regardless of the presence of vertigo,vestibular organs are involved in SSHL.Notably,SSHL patients aged 41–60 appear more susceptible to damage to the inferior vestibular nerve and saccule.

文摘Background:Cisplatin is a chemotherapeutic agent commonly used clinically for the treatment of various human cancers.Patients often reduce the use of cisplatin due to its side effects,which in turn affects its treatment.This study explored the mechanism of action of safflower extract as an adjuvant traditional Chinese medicine for chemotherapy.Methods:Primary human follicle dermal papilla cells(HFDPCs)were used as target cells for cisplatininduced damage to hair cells.Western blotting was used to investigate the molecular targets of cisplatin and safflower extract in causing HFDPCs damage.Cell survival and cell cycle were analyzed by mitochondrial staining reagent WST-1 and propidium iodide.Results:Cisplatin could reduce the viability of HFDPCs without causing cell death.Cisplatin increased the level of phospho-Rad17 in HFDPCs and activated the Chk1/Cdc25C signaling to reduce the expression of Cdc2 protein,thereby arresting the cells in the G2/M phase.The combination of safflower extract and the flavonoids could effectively inhibit the signal transduction of Rad17/Chk1/Cdc25 in cisplatin-treated cells and reduce the cell population in the G2/M phase.Finally,we also confirmed that safflower extract could effectively inhibit the damage to HFDPCs caused by cisplatin,mainly at the level of reducing the DNA damage caused by cisplatin.Conclusions:Safflower extract can be used as an adjuvant Chinese medicine for chemotherapy to reduce the damage caused by chemotherapy to normal hair follicle cells.

文摘BACKGROUND Autophagy is associated with hippocampal injury following status epilepticus(SE)and is considered a potential therapeutic mechanism.Baicalin,an emerging multitherapeutic drug,has shown neuroprotective effects in patients with nervous system diseases due to its antioxidant properties.AIM To investigate the potential role of autophagy in LiCl-pilocarpine-induced SE.METHODS The drugs were administered 30 min before SE.Nissl staining showed that Baicalin attenuated hippocampal injury and reduced neuronal death in the hippocampus.Western blotting and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling assay confirmed that Baicalin reversed the expression intensity of cleaved caspase-3 and apoptosis in hippocampal CA1 following SE.Furthermore,western blotting and immunofluorescence staining were used to measure the expression of autophagy markers(p62/SQSTM1,Beclin 1,and LC3)and apoptotic pathway markers(cleaved caspase-3 and Bcl-2).RESULTS Baicalin significantly upregulated autophagic activity and downregulated mitochondrial apoptotic pathway markers.Conversely,3-methyladenine,a commonly used autophagy inhibitor,was simultaneously administered to inhibit the Baicalin-induced autophagy,abrogating the protective effect of Baicalin on the mitochondrial apoptotic level.CONCLUSION We illustrated that Baicalin-induced activation of autophagy alleviates apoptotic death and protects the hippocampus of SE rats.

文摘AIM: To investigate the effects of daily telephonebased re-education(TRE) before taking medicine for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) on the compliance and the eradication rate in a Chinese patient population.METHODS : Aprospective, physician-blind e d, randomized, controlled clinical study was conducted. The patients were randomly assigned to receive TRE every day before taking medicine(TRE group) or no TRE(control group). The patients in the TRE group received regular instructions before taking medicine for the eradication of H. pylori during the entire courseof treatment through telephone calls. The patients in the control group received detailed instructions at the time of seeing a doctor for the guidance. The primary outcome was the H. pylori eradication rate after treatment. The secondary outcomes included the clinical remissions after treatment, adverse events, compliance, and patients' satisfaction.RESULTS: A total of 140 patients were randomized, 70 to the TRE group and 70 to the control group. As the primary outcome, the H. pylori eradication rates in the TRE and control groups were 62.7% and 71.2% in per protocol analysis(P = 0.230), and 52.9% and 52.9% in intention-to-treat analysis(P = 0.567), respectively. As the secondary outcomes, there were no significant differences in the patients' satisfaction between the two groups(good, 79.7% vs 76.9%; fair, 13.6% vs 19.2%; poor, 6.7% vs 3.9%, for the TRE group and control group, respectively; P > 0.05 for all); the rates of adverse effects were 15.2% and 63.5% in the TRE and control groups, respectively(P < 0.001); the compliance rates in the TRE and control groups were 85.7% and 74.3%, respectively(P = 0.069).CONCLUSION: Daily TRE before taking medicine had no significant impact on the patients' compliance, satisfaction, or H. pylori eradication, but reduced the rate of adverse events.

文摘Hippocampal neurons undergo various forms of cell death after status epilepticus.Necrostatin-1 specifically inhibits necroptosis mediated by receptor interacting protein kinase 1 (RIP1) and RIP3 receptors.However,there are no reports of necroptosis in mouse models of status epilepticus.Therefore,in this study,we investigated the effects of necrostatin-1 on hippocampal neurons in mice with status epilepticus,and,furthermore,we tested different amounts of the compound to identify the optimal concentration for inhibiting necroptosis and apoptosis.A mouse model of status epilepticus was produced by intraperitoneal injection of kainic acid,12 mg/kg.Different concentrations of necrostatin- 1 (10,20,40,and 80 μM) were administered into the lateral ventricle 15 minutes before kainic acid injection.Hippocampal damage was assessed by hematoxylin-eosin staining 24 hours after the model was successfully produced.Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling staining,western blot assay and immunohistochemistry were used to evaluate the expression of apoptosis-related and necroptosis-related proteins.Necrostatin-1 alleviated damage to hippocampal tissue in the mouse model of epilepsy.The 40 μM concentration of necrostatin-1 significantly decreased the number of apoptotic cells in the hippocampal CA1 region.Furthermore,necrostatin-1 significantly downregulated necroptosis-related proteins (MLKL,RIP1,and RIP3) and apoptosis-related proteins (cleaved-Caspase-3,Bax),and it upregulated the expression of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2.Taken together,our findings show that necrostatin-1 effectively inhibits necroptosis and apoptosis in mice with status epilepticus,with the 40 μM concentration of the compound having an optimal effect.The experiments were approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of Fujian Medical University,China (approval No.2016-032) on November 9,2016.

文摘BACKGROUND Anastomosing hemangioma(AH)is a rare subtype of benign hemangioma that is most commonly found in the genitourinary tract.Due to the lack of specific clinical and radiologic manifestations,it is easily misdiagnosed preoperatively.Here,we report a case of AH arising from the left renal vein that was discovered incidentally and confirmed pathologically,and then describe its imaging characteristics from a radiologic point of view and review its clinicopathologic features and treatment.CASE SUMMARY A 74-year-old woman was admitted to our department for a left retroperitoneal neoplasm measuring 2.6 cm×2.0 cm.Her laboratory data showed no significant abnormalities.A non-contrast-enhanced computed tomography(CT)scan showed a heterogeneous density in the neoplasm.Non-contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)revealed a heterogeneous hypointensity on T1-weighed images and a heterogeneous hyperintensity on T2-weighed images.On contrastenhanced CT and MRI scans,the neoplasm presented marked septal enhancement in the arterial phase and persistent enhancement in the portal phase,and its boundary with the left renal vein was ill-defined.Based on these clinical and radiological manifestations,the neoplasm was initially considered to be a neurogenic neoplasm in the left retroperitoneum.Finally,the neoplasm was completely resected and pathologically diagnosed as AH.CONCLUSION AH is an uncommon benign hemangioma.Preoperative misdiagnoses are common not only because of a lack of specific clinical and radiologic manifestations but also because clinicians lack vigilance and diagnostic experience in identifying AH.AH is not exclusive to the urogenital parenchyma.We report the first case of this neoplasm in the left renal vein.Recognition of this entity in the left renal vein can be helpful in its diagnosis and distinction from other neoplasms.

文摘Lung cancer is a common malignancy in the world; however symptomatic colonic metastasis from primary lung cancer is rare. A 64-year-old man was originally found poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma of right lung and received right lower lobectomy and lymph node dissection. Three years later, the patient presented to our emergency room with the symptom of upper abdominal pain and weight loss. Abdominal palpation and computed tomography scan of the abdomen revealed a large mass measuring 7.6 cm × 8.5 cm in the ascending colon. Colonoscopy and biopsy revealed poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma with similar morphological pattern to that of the previous lung cancer. Chemotherapy was given and the patient died 5 mo later. Lung cancer metastatic to the colon confers a poor prognosis: overall survival ranged from 5 wk to 1 year, with a median survival of 3 mo after the diagnosis of the colonic metastasis.

文摘The exploration of the memristor model in the discrete domain is a fascinating hotspot.The electromagnetic induction on neurons has also begun to be simulated by some discrete memristors.However,most of the current investigations are based on the integer-order discrete memristor,and there are relatively few studies on the form of fractional order.In this paper,a new fractional-order discrete memristor model with prominent nonlinearity is constructed based on the Caputo fractional-order difference operator.Furthermore,the dynamical behaviors of the Rulkov neuron under electromagnetic radiation are simulated by introducing the proposed discrete memristor.The integer-order and fractional-order peculiarities of the system are analyzed through the bifurcation graph,the Lyapunov exponential spectrum,and the iterative graph.The results demonstrate that the fractional-order system has more abundant dynamics than the integer one,such as hyper-chaos,multi-stable and transient chaos.In addition,the complexity of the system in the fractional form is evaluated by the means of the spectral entropy complexity algorithm and consequences show that it is affected by the order of the fractional system.The feature of fractional difference lays the foundation for further research and application of the discrete memristor and the neuron map in the future.
文摘BACKGROUND Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura(TTP)is a life-threatening but treatable disorder.Acute pancreatitis is a well-described consequence of TTP,but TTP as a consequence of acute pancreatitis is rare.CASE SUMMARY A 32-year-old male developed acute pancreatitis due to a fatty diet and suffered splenectomy 3 years ago due to trauma.From day 4 of his onset of pain the blood examination showed the platelet extremely reduced,bilirubin elevated and creatinine increased.High clinical suspicion of TTP was made and prompt initiation of plasma exchange was given followed intravenous drip methylprednisolone.After 7 sessions of plasm exchange and the laboratory parameters were back to normal and the patient was discharged from the hospital on the 13th day of admission.CONCLUSION Patients develop acute pancreatitis with no apparent causes for hemolytic anemia and thrombocytopenia,the possibility of TTP should be considered.Treatments for TTP including plasm exchange should be evaluated as soon as a diagnosis is made.
文摘BACKGROUND Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(BPPV)is a form of temporary vertigo induced by moving the head to a specific position.It is a self-limited,peripheral,vestibular disease and can be divided into primary and secondary forms.Congenital nystagmus(CN),an involuntary,rhythmic,binocular-symmetry,conjugated eye movement,is found at birth or within 3 mo of birth.According to the pathogenesis,CN can be divided into sensory-defect nystagmus and motordefect nystagmus.The coexistence of BPPV and CN is rarely seen in the clinic.CASE SUMMARY A 62-year-old woman presented to our clinic complaining of a 15-d history of recurrent positional vertigo.The vertigo lasting less than 1 min occurred when she turned over,sometimes accompanied by nausea and vomiting.Both the patient and her father had CN.Her spontaneous nystagmus was horizontal to right;however,the gaze test revealed variable horizontal nystagmus with the same degree when the eyes moved.The patient’s Dix-Hallpike test was normal,except for persistent nystagmus,and the roll test showed severe variable horizontal nystagmus,which lasted for about 20 s in the same direction as her head movement to the right and left,although the right-side nystagmus was stronger than the left-side.Since these symptoms were accompanied by nausea,she was diagnosed with BPPV with CN and treated by manual reduction.CONCLUSION Though rare,if BPPV with CN is correctly identified and diagnosed,reduction treatment is comparably effective to other vertigo types.
文摘Objectives: To present the complications of Ultraflex Self-Expandable Metallic Stents (SEMSs) applied in patients with benign tracheobronchial diseases. Methods: Eighty patients received 124 SEMSs were retrospectively reviewed in a tertiary hospital. Results: The baseline characteristics of patients received SEMS implantation including age (mean + standard deviation: 62.5 + 14.8 years), gender (male, 60.5%), smoking (46.8%), forced expiratory volume in first one second (FEV1) (mean + standard deviation, 0.92 +0.41 L/s), follow-up days after SEMS implantation (median (interquartile range);457 (131 - 897)) and covered SEMS (33.9%) were listed. Symptoms improved after SEMS implantation among 95 patients (76.6%). Time to complications developed was 236 (median;interquartile range, 59 - 672) days. The overall complication rate was 41.9% after SEMS implantation. The complications included SEMS migration (6.5%), granuloma (19.3%) and SEMS fracture (16.1%). Successful management rates of SEMS migration, granuloma and SEMS fracture were up to 100%, 83.3%, and 85% respectively. Conclusions: Patients received SEMS implantation due to benign conditions had poor lung function and were old. The complication rate in patients with benign conditions was high after longer follow-up period, however, successful management achieved in most patients with complications.

文摘Owing to their facile reactants migration channels,large surface area,maximized exposure of reaction sites and efficient light utilization,three-dimensionally ordered macroporous(3DOM)materials have been extensively adopted in environmental fields such as pollutants removal,environmental detection as well as bacterial disinfection.In this review,the up-to-date 3DOM materials,the corresponding synthesis protocols and the related environmental applications involving photo/electrocatalytic pollutants decomposition,thermocatalytic volatile organic compounds(VOCs)elimination,hazardous substances sensing and bacteria inactivation are completely presented.Simultaneously,the inherent advantages and mechanisms of 3DOM materials in different environmental utilization are thoroughly demonstrated and summarized.Furthermore,the improved performance of environmental applications and the methods of fabricating 3DOM materials are correlated in depth,being favorable for readers to obtain the fundamental knowledge and to motivate some innovative thoughts for modifying 3DOM materials with further elevated environmental remediation capability.Finally,the current difficulties and prospects of 3DOM materials for large-scale and commercial applications are outlooked.This critical review is anticipated to promote the optimization of 3DOM materials and to ripen the related environmental remediation techniques.

文摘Objective To isolate and identify the chemical constituents from mycelia and spores of the fungus Cordyceps cicadae,respectively.Methods The chemical constituents were isolated and purified by repeated silica gel,Sephadex LH-20,and reversed phase HPLC.The structures of these compounds were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis,including 1 D and 2D NMR.Results Nine known sterols such as ergosterol(1),ergosterol peroxide(2),9,11-dehydroergosterol peroxide(3),3β,5α,9α-trihydroxy-(22E,24R)-ergosta-7,22-dien-6-one(4),3β,5α,9α,14α-tetrahydroxy-(22E,24R)-ergosta-7,22-dien-6-one(5),5 α,6α-e poxy-(22 E,,24 R)-e rgosta-8(14),22-diene-3α,7α-diol (6), 3β,5α,6β-(22E,24R)-ergosta-7,22-dien-3,5,6-triol (7), 3β,5α,6α-6- methoxyergosta-(22E,24R)-7,22-diene-3,5-diol (8), 4-hydroxy-17R-methylincisterol (9), together with a resorcinol derivative, 5-n-nonadecylresorcinol (10), a cydo- desipeptide, beauvericin (11), and a nucleoside, N^6-(2-hydroxyethyl)adenosine (12) were successively isolated from the cultivated C. cicadaemycelia and spores. Conclusion Compounds 3-10 are reported for the first time from the title sample, beauvericin exhibits significant cytotoxicity against human leukemia cell line and human lung cancer cell line.

文摘Valeriaquinone A(1),an unprecedented anthraquinone–coumarin hybrid,was isolated from the roots of Knoxia valerianoides.Its structure was determined by extensive spectroscopic analyses and X-ray diffraction.The plausible biosynthetic pathways for 1 were proposed.Compound 1 exhibited strong protein tyrosine phosphatase 1 B(PTP1 B)inhibition with high selectivity(>30 fold)over homologous T cell protein tyrosine phosphatase(TCPTP)potentially by binding to an allosteric site predicted by kinetic analysis and molecular docking.Moreover,compound 1 showed significant cytotoxic activities against three human hepatoma cell lines(HepG2,QGY-7703,and SMMC-7721)with half maximal inhibitory concentration(IC_(50))values of 1.39±0.2,10.34±2.09,and 5.56±0.47μmol/L,respectively.
文摘Novel antibacterial polymer coatings were prepared by a facile thiol-yne click photopolymerization of 1-propargyl-3-allYl-l,3-diazanyl-2,4-cyclopentadiene bromide ([PAIMIBr) and tetra(3-mercapto-pro- pionate)pentaerythritol (PETMP) (2:1 molar ratio) using 2,2-dimethoxy-2-phenylacetophenone (DMPA) as initiator. The antibacterial activity of the coatings was tested against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 292130) and Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922) by the dynamic shake method. The evaluation results revealed the antibacterial polymer coatings exhibited excellent inhibitory activity against S. aureus and E. coil, especially for S. aureus.
文摘Poly[(mercaptopropyl)methylsiloxane] (PMMS)-based antibacterial polymer coatings have been prepared through a two-step sequential thiol-ene click chemistry utilizing 1-allyl-3-decylimidazolium bromide (ADIm) as antibacterial monomer and triallyl cyanurate (TAC) as the crosslinker. These films with different content of ADIm were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and pencil hardness. It was found that the mechanical and thermal properties of these films were largely influenced by the content of ADIm in the films. Films with imidazolium bromide groups displayed excellent antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus with 100% killing efficiency.
