Lipoxidation is formed during the oxidation of lipids and specific proteins,causing an alteration in proteins function.Although this occurs under physiological conditions,in many cases,it has been associated with path...Lipoxidation is formed during the oxidation of lipids and specific proteins,causing an alteration in proteins function.Although this occurs under physiological conditions,in many cases,it has been associated with pathological processes,including cancer.Oxidative DNA damage is a significant contributor to cancer development,and lipoxidation products such as malondialdehyde(MDA)and 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal(4-HNE)play a role in the induction of mutations responsible for DNA modifications.Elevations of reactive aldehydes can be seen in patients with metastatic disease in comparison to those without metastatic disease.Lipoxidation adducts can modify the immune response,consequently causing either positive or negative alterations in cancer progression.When reactive aldehydes are added to tumor cells,they exert similar effects to chemotherapeutic drugs by forming DNA adducts and consequently steer the tumor cells toward apoptosis.This article highlights the role of botanical compounds in lipid metabolism,lipid peroxidation,and cell cycle arrest and discusses the potential role they may have in oncology treatments.展开更多
Hydrogen has emerged as a promising energy source for low-carbon and sustainable mobility purposes.However,its applications are still limited by modest conversion efficiency in the electrocatalytic oxygen reduction re...Hydrogen has emerged as a promising energy source for low-carbon and sustainable mobility purposes.However,its applications are still limited by modest conversion efficiency in the electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)within fuel cells.The complex nature of the ORR and the presence of strong electronic correlations present challenges to atomistic modelling using classical computers.This scenario opens new avenues for the implementation of novel quantum computing workflows.Here,we present a state-of-the-art study that combines classical and quantum computational approaches to investigate ORR on platinum-based surfaces.Our research demonstrates,for the first time,the feasibility of implementing this workflow on the H1-series trappedion quantumcomputer and identify the challenges of the quantum chemistry modelling of this reaction.The results highlight the great potentiality of quantum computers in solving notoriously difficult systems with strongly correlated electronic structures and suggest platinum/cobalt as ideal candidate for showcasing quantum advantage in future applications.展开更多
The use of alternative medicine(AM) in Australia dates back to its earliest times,with the indigenous medicine of the aboriginal peoples and the folk medicine of the early English settlers.AM has until recently exis...The use of alternative medicine(AM) in Australia dates back to its earliest times,with the indigenous medicine of the aboriginal peoples and the folk medicine of the early English settlers.AM has until recently existed quite separately from Western biomedicine(WB) and there has been little integration of the two systems.Now,referred to as complementary medicine(CM),there has been a movement over the last 20 years to include CM in WB mainstream practices.Varying degrees of success have been reported but for the discipline of oncology.Medical oncology(MO) in Australia is demanding CM provide high levels of evidence for any inclusion in cancer protocols.There are just now the beginnings of this integration, particularly as CM is now being taught in the public university system to a PhD level as well as the public demand for their medical doctors to communicate with their CM practitioners.MO specialists are now open to a dialogue with their CM counterparts.展开更多
