Because of the high velocity, variational topology and such other characters, the link between VANETs and road side unit (RSU) is unstable. Besides, on account of the high cost of RSU, some places can’t be covered completely which make the Internet accessing difficult and accessing delay long. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical link scheme to help vehicles access the Internet based on delay analysis for congestion scenario. We select some moving accessing help points (AHPs) from vehicles in VANETs. Two different hierarchical schemes under the circumstances of whole road covered or not are proposed. When the RSUs are enough to cover the whole road fully, we propose the inward progressive hierarchical method. When the RSUs are not enough to cover the whole road, we propose the outward extend hierarchical method. According to the delay analysis, we can get the optimal hierarchy number. This hierarchical link scheme can decrease delay and make all vehicles access the Internet with delay guarantee. The simulation results indicate that our proposed hierarchical link scheme in VANETs can decrease the link delay effectively.展开更多

Due to the rapid changing of topology structure, how to find a route which can guarantee Quality of Service (QoS) is an important issue in VANETs. This paper presents an improved Greedy Perimeter Stateless Routing (GPSR) protocol based on our proposed next-hop node selection mechanism. Firstly, we define the link reliability in two cases which take the movement direction angle between two vehicles into consideration. Then we propose a next-hop node selection mechanism based on a weighted function which consists of link reliability between the sender node and next-hop candidate node, distance between next-hop candidate node and the destination, movement direction angle of next-hop candidate node. At last, an improved GPSR protocol is proposed based on the next-hop node selection mechanism. Simulation results are presented to evaluate the performance of the improved GPSR protocol, which shows that the performance including packet delivery ratio and average end-to-end delay of the proposed protocol is better in some situations.展开更多

It is a self-configuring network of mobile routers connected by wireless links. Since MANETs do not have a fixed infrastructure, it is a chal-lenge to design a location management scheme that is both scalable and cost-efficient. In this paper, we propose a cooperative location management scheme, called CooLMS, for MANETs. CooLMS combines the strength of grid based location management and pointer forwarding strategy to achieve high scalability and low signaling cost. An indepth formal analysis of the location management cost of CooLMS is presented. In particular, the total location management cost of mobile nodes moving at variable velocity is estimated using the Gauss_Markov mobility model for the correlation of mobility velocities. Simulation results show CooLMS performs better than other schemes under certain circumstances.展开更多

Using previous work by Gomez and Campbell [1], we show that in consider of node's mobility, the previous variable-range transmission power control based on minimum spanning tree algorithm can not support nodes' mobility in mobile ad hoc network. For this reason, we give out an improved variable-range transmission power control algorithm to support node's mobility and solve asymmetric graph problem. To save more energy without changing the topology of the network, we give out two new data transmission mechanisms based on the idea of cooperative communication. The results of this paper enhance the possibility of using variable-range transmission power control in mobile ad hoc networks.展开更多

Previous studies have identified amounts of CNVs in human genome by advanced technologies, such as comparative genomic hybridization, single nucleotide genotyping, and high-throughput sequencing. CNV is speculated to be derived from multiple mechanisms, such as nonallelic homologous recombination (NAHR) and nonhomologous end-joining (NHEJ). CNVs cover a much larger genome scale than single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), and may alter gene expression levels by means of gene dosage, gene fusion, gene disruption, and long-range regulation effects, thus affecting individual phenotypes and playing crucial roles in human pathogenesis. The number of studies linking CNVs with common complex diseases has increased dramatically in recent years. Here, we provide a comprehensive review of the current understanding ofgermline CNVs, and summarize the association of germline CNVs with the susceptibility to a wide variety of human diseases that were identified in recent years. We also propose potential issues that should be addressed in future studies.展开更多

In this study, factorial arrangements of treatments were designed to explore the effects of two soil amendments, sodium sulfide-biofuel ash (SSBA) and lime (0.1%), and three foliar applications, silicon (Si, 2.5 mmol L-1), selenium (Se, 40 mg L-1), and their combination (SS), on Cd reduction in rice (Oryza sativa L.) in a pot experiment, which were then verified in a field experiment. Compared with the control without amendment but with spraying of deionized water, both SSBA and lime significantly reduced concentrations of CaCl2-extractable Cd in soil by 30%–39% and 31%–40% and Cd in brown rice by 44%–63% and 53%–72% in the pot and field experiments, respectively. Foliar Si, Se, and SS applications significantly reduced Cd accumulation in brown rice by 62%–64%, 72%–83%, and 39%–73%, respectively, increased rice grain yield, and improved antioxidant enzyme activities in rice leaves but with different trends in the pot and field experiments. Combinations of SSBA and lime with Si, Se, and SS had a non-significant synergistic effect on Cd reduction in brown rice compared to only foliar spraying or soil amendment in both pot and field experiments, although SSBA + Se and SSBA + Si reduced Cd concentration in brown rice by 16%–34% and 14%–24% compared to only foliar Si and Se and soil SSBA applications, respectively. Soil lime application and foliar Si spraying were the most cost-effective strategies to reduce Cd accumulation in brown rice in the field and pot experiments, respectively. Although soil amendments and foliar treatments were individually effective, their combinations failed to generate a significant synergistic reduction of Cd concentration in brown rice.展开更多
