The dehydration, structural collapse and re...Calcium silicate hydrate(C-S-H) with Ca/Si ratio 1.0 was prepared via precipitation in solution and heated at various temperatures to investigate its dehydration behavior. The dehydration, structural collapse and recrystallization characteristics of C-S-H and its microstructural change during heating process were investigated by XRD, SEM, Raman and TG-DSC techniques. C-S-H gradually lost non-evaporable water upon heating, about 50% and 80% non-evaporable water was removed below 200 and 400 ℃, respectively, and the rest was removed up to about 1 000 ℃. At 400 ℃, dehydrated C-S-H exhibited the increasing disordering of calcium/silicon environment and the decreasing symmetrical bending vibration of Si-O-Si of Q^2 silicate chains. At 650 ℃ non-bridging oxygen atoms(O(non)) attached to silicon were almost removed, and significant structural change occurred, and at 815 ℃ C-S-H dehydrated to wollastonite.展开更多
The IL-6-STAT3 axis is critically involved in inflammation-associated carcinogenesis(IAC).How this axis is regulated to modulate IAC remains unknown.Here,we show that the plasma membrane-associated E3 ubiquitin ligase...The IL-6-STAT3 axis is critically involved in inflammation-associated carcinogenesis(IAC).How this axis is regulated to modulate IAC remains unknown.Here,we show that the plasma membrane-associated E3 ubiquitin ligase MARCH3 negatively regulates STAT3 activation triggered by IL-6,as well as another IL-6 subfamily member,Oncostatin M(OSM).MARCH3 is associated with the IL-6 receptorα-chain(IL-6Rα)and its coreceptor gp130.Biochemical experiments indicated that MARCH3 mediates the polyubiquitination of IL-6Rαat K401 and gp130 at K849 following IL-6 stimulation,leading to their translocation to and degradation in lysosomes.MARCH3 deficiency increases IL-6-and OSM-triggered activation of STAT3 and induction of downstream effector genes in various cell types.MARCH3 deficiency enhances dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)-induced STAT3 activation,increases the expression of inflammatory cytokines,and exacerbates colitis,as well as azoxymethane(AOM)/DSS-induced colitis-associated cancer in mice.In addition,MARCH3 is downregulated in human colorectal cancer tissues and associated with poor survival across different cancer types.Our findings suggest that MARCH3 is a pivotal negative regulator of IL-6-induced STAT3 activation,inflammation,and inflammation-associated carcinogenesis.展开更多

The localized subsidence can...In a landfill, excessive tensile strains or failure of the liner system due to localized subsidence underneath the geosynthetic liner, is a concern in design and operation of the landfill. The localized subsidence can be commonly withstood by reinforcements such as geogrids. A total of nine model tests were carried out to study the influence of soil arching in overburden sandy soil on the geosynthetics and the interaction between the soil and the geosynthetics. The localized subsidence was modeled by a strip trapdoor under the geosynthetic reinforcements. The reinforcement includes several layers of polyvinylchlorid (PVC) membrane or both PVC membrane and a compacted clay layer. Test results show that the vertical soil pressure acting on the geosynthetics within the subsidence zone is strongly related to the deflection of the geosynthefics. The soil pressure acting on the deflected geosynthetics will decrease to a minimum value with respect to its deflection if the final deflection is large enough, and this minimum value is almost independent of the overburden height. Otherwise, the deflection of geosynthetics cannot result in a full degree of soil arching, and the soil pressure within the subsidence zone increases with the increase of overburden height. Deflections and strains of the geosynthetics obviously decrease with the increase of their tensile stiffness. The presence of a compacted clay layer buffer can therefore reduce both deflections and strains of the geosynthetics. Finally, a composite liner structure is recommended for landfills to withstand the localized subsidences.展开更多
