In this study,a numerical method was developed based on peridynamics to determine the ice loads for a ship navigating in level ice.Convergence analysis of threedimensional ice specimen with tensile and compression loading are carried out first. The effects of ice thickness, sailing speed, and ice properties on the mean ice loads were also investigated. It is observed that the ice fragments resulting from the icebreaking process will interact with one another as well as with the water and ship hull. The ice fragments may rotate, collide,or slide along the ship hull, and these ice fragments will eventually drift away from the ship. The key characteristics of the icebreaking process can be obtained using the peridynamic model such as the dynamic generation of cracks in the ice sheet, propagation and accumulation of ice fragments,as well as collision, rotation, and sliding of the ice fragments along the ship hull. The simulation results obtained for the ice loads and icebreaking process were validated against those determined from the Lindqvist empirical formula and there is good agreement between the results. 展开更多

The probability distributions of wave characteristics from three groups of sampled ocean data with different significant wave heights have been analyzed using two transformation functions estimated by non-parametric and parametric methods. The marginal wave characteristic distribution and the joint density of wave properties have been calculated using the two transformations, with the results and accuracy of both transformations presented here. The two transformations deviate slightly between each other for the calculation of the crest and trough height marginal wave distributions, as well as the joint densities of wave amplitude with other wave properties. The transformation methods for the calculation of the wave crest and trough height distributions are shown to provide good agreement with real ocean data. Our work will help in the determination of the most appropriate transformation procedure for the prediction of extreme values. 展开更多

Experiments were carried out with bypass-current MIG welding–brazing of magnesium alloy to galvanized steel to investigate the effect of heat input on the microstructure and mechanical properties of lap joints. Experimental results indicated that the joint efficiency tended to increase at first and then to reduce with the increase of heat input. The joint efficiency reached its maximum of about 70% when the heat input was 155 J/mm. The metallurgical bonding between magnesium alloy and steel was a thin continuous reaction layer, and the intermetallic compound layer consisted of Mg–Zn and slight Fe–Al phases. It is concluded that bypass-current MIG welding–brazing is a stable welding process, which can be used to achieve defect-free joining of magnesium alloy to steel with good weld appearances. 展开更多
