This study examined an array of factors, including waist circumference (WC) and folate deficiency, which may mediate the association of BMI with serum ALT concentration in Chinese hypertensive adults without known hepatic diseases. Methods: A multicenter, cross-sectional study was carried out. A total of 378 patients with mild or moderate hypertension and without known hepatic diseases were recruited from five hospitals in Harbin, Shanghai, Beijing, Xi'an, and Nanjing. Results: Of the 360 hypertensive patients with complete data in our final analysis, 13.6% had high ALT concentrations (〉40 IU/L). Factors including BMI, WC, triglycedde level, and folate concentration were associated with ALT concentration in univariate analysis. Consistently higher preva- lence rates of elevated ALT were observed in subjects with lower folate concentrations (≥12 vs. 〈12 nmol/L, 9.9% vs. 17.8%, P=-0.03), with higher BMI (≥28 vs. 〈28 kg/m2, 21.5% vs. 11.4%, P=-0.02) or higher WC (≥90 vs. 〈90 cm, 18.5% vs. 10.0%, P=-0.02). However, in multivariate analysis, the association between BMI and ALT concentration disap- peared (P=-0.802 in males and 0.369 in females), while WC in females (P〈0.001) and folate concentration (P=-0.036 in males and 0.044 in females) remained as significant predictors for ALT concentration. Conclusions: This multicenter study demonstrated that WC and low folate concentration were important factors underlying the association between BMI and ALT concentrations in Chinese hypertensive adults without known hepatic diseases.展开更多

Oryza nivara and O. rufipogon are direct ancestors of Asian cultivated rice and a progenitor-daughter species pair. Investigating the reproductive isolation between them provides insights into plant speciation and helps understanding of the rice domestication. Here, we quantitatively measured the major components of reproductive isolation between the two species based on common garden and crossing experiments for three pairs of sympatric populations in Nepal, Cambodia and Laos.We revealed significant differences in the flowering times between species pairs, with O. nivara flowering much earlier than O. rufipogon. A very weak reduction in seed set but no reduction in F1 viability and fertility were detected for the crosses between species relative to those within species. Moreover, we detected asymmetrical compatibility between species and found that emasculation significantly decreased pollination success in O. nivara but not in O. rufipogon. Our study demonstrates that the divergence between O. nivara and O. rufipogon is maintained almost entirely by the difference in flowering times and suggests that differential flowering times contribute to both habitat preferences and reproductive isolation between species.展开更多

In this article, we have explored the C(sp2)–H alkenylation activity with novel spirocyclic N-heterocyclic carbene(NHC)-based cyclometalated ruthenium pincer catalyst system, SNRu-X. After screening catalyst and condition, a high valent Ru(Ⅳ) dioxide(X = O_(2)) species has demonstrated superior reactivity in the catalytic alkenylation of aromatic and olefinic C–H bonds with unactivated alkenyl bromides and triflates. This reaction has achieved the easy construction of a wide range of(hetero)aromatic alkenes and dienes, in good to excellent yields with exclusive selectivity. Preliminary mechanistic studies indicate that this reaction may proceed through a single electron transfer(SET) triggered oxidative addition, by doing so, providing valuable complementary to classical alkenylation reactions that are dependent on activated alkenyl precursors.展开更多

This method is considerably useful over those reported by using strong coordination ligand or carbonic anion exchange, and would provide an alternative efficient template of organometallics synthesis. Experimental and density functional theory(DFT) calculation results indicate that the spirocyclic framework is a favourable factor for the facile formation and stabilization of these complexes. Primary investigation shows that chloride 1b can well catalyze homo and hetero addition of styrene derivatives and remote olefin isomerization, which represents the first catalytic application of the dianionic CCC pincer complexes.展开更多
