Isolated photosynthetic complexes of cyanobacteria that are capable of light absorption and charge separation can be utilized in hydrogen-producing devices that are driven by solar energy. As photosynthetic microorganisms, cyanobacteria present a unique opportunity for creating low cost systems for hydrogen production in vivo and in vitro.
