BACKGROUND Neurosurgical treatment of severe bilateral occipital lobe epilepsy usually involves two operations several mos apart.AIM To evaluate surgical resection of bilateral occipital lobe lesions during a single o...BACKGROUND Neurosurgical treatment of severe bilateral occipital lobe epilepsy usually involves two operations several mos apart.AIM To evaluate surgical resection of bilateral occipital lobe lesions during a single operation as a treatment for bilateral occipital lobe epilepsy.METHODS This retrospective case series included patients with drug-refractory bilateral occipital lobe epilepsy treated surgically between March 2006 and November 2015.RESULTS Preoperative evaluation included scalp video-electroencephalography(EEG),magnetic resonance imaging,and PET-CT.During surgery(bilateral occipital craniotomy),epileptic foci and important functional areas were identified by EEG(intracranial cortical electrodes)and cortical functional mapping,respectively.Patients were followed up for at least 5 years to evaluate treatment outcome(Engel grade)and visual function.The 20 patients(12 males)were aged 4-30 years(median age,12 years).Time since onset was 3-20 years(median,8 years),and episode frequency was 4-270/mo(median,15/mo).Common manifestations were elementary visual hallucinations(65.0%),flashing lights(30.0%),blurred vision(20.0%)and visual field defects(20.0%).Most patients were free of disabling seizures(Engel grade I)postoperatively(18/20,90.0%)and at 1 year(18/20,90.0%),3 years(17/20,85.0%)and≥5 years(17/20,85.0%).No patients were classified Engel grade IV(no worthwhile improvement).After surgery,there was no change in visual function in 13/20(65.0%),development of a new visual field defect in 3/20(15.0%),and worsening of a preexisting defect in 4/20(20.0%).CONCLUSION Resection of bilateral occipital lobe lesions during a single operation may be applicable in bilateral occipital lobe epilepsy.展开更多
Light emission by inelastic tunneling(LEIT)from a metal-insulator-metal tunnel junction is an ultrafast emission process.It is a promising platform for ultrafast transduction from electrical signal to optical signal o...Light emission by inelastic tunneling(LEIT)from a metal-insulator-metal tunnel junction is an ultrafast emission process.It is a promising platform for ultrafast transduction from electrical signal to optical signal on integrated circuits.However,existing procedures of fabricating LEIT devices usually involve both top-down and bottom-up techniques,which reduces its compatibility with the modern microfabrication streamline and limits its potential applications in industrial scale-up.Here in this work,we lift these restrictions by using a multilayer insulator grown by atomic layer deposition as the tunnel barrier.For the first time,we fabricate an LEIT device fully by microfabrication techniques and show a stable performance under ambient conditions.Uniform electroluminescence is observed over the entire active region,with the emission spectrum shaped by metallic grating plasmons.The introduction of a multilayer insulator into the LEIT can provide an additional degree of freedom for engineering the energy band landscape of the tunnel barrier.The presented scheme of preparing a stable ultrathin tunnel barrier may also find some applications in a wide range of integrated optoelectronic devices.展开更多
The WNW-ESE-trending Baiyunshan ophiolitic mélange is exposed in the central Beishan orogenic belt(BOB),between the Hongliuhe-Niujuanzi and Xichangjing ophiolitic mélanges in the west and east,respectively.H...The WNW-ESE-trending Baiyunshan ophiolitic mélange is exposed in the central Beishan orogenic belt(BOB),between the Hongliuhe-Niujuanzi and Xichangjing ophiolitic mélanges in the west and east,respectively.Here we present new petrological,geochemical,and zircon U-Pb age data for the Baiyunshan ophiolitic mélange and metamorphosed lithic sandstones of“the Baiyunshan Formation”.The Baiyunshan ophiolitic mélange is characterized by a block-in-matrix structure,and the blocks of ultramafic-mafic rocks are mainly pyroxenites,dunites,gabbros,and minor hornblendites.Zircon U-Pb dating yielded an emplacement age of 424.2±3.7 Ma for the gabbros.The ultramaficmafic rocks have geochemical features of supra-subduction zone-type ophiolites,including low Ti contents(TiO2=0.01 wt.%–0.35 wt.%),negative Nb-Ta anomalies,and U-shaped rare earth element patterns with positive Eu anomalies(δEu=0.99–3.25).“The Baiyunshan Formation”is exposed to the north of the ophiolitic mélange,and comprises mainly meta-cherts in its lower part and metasandstones and marbles in its upper part.Blocks of basalt are locally dispersed in the sand-slate matrix.The ages of detrital zircons in the metamorphosed lithic sandstones range from 521 to 464 Ma,with an age peak of 500 Ma,which is similar to those of the Gongpoquan arc in the north.The central Beishan orogenic belt experienced continuous subduction of the Hongliuhe-Xichangjing oceanic lithosphere in the Late Silurian,which produced the Baiyunshan forearc complex and supra-subduction zone-type ophiolite.展开更多
Botryosphaeria dieback is a serious disease problem for table and grape wine production worldwide.The disease however,has been less well-studied in China.In this study,we surveyed Botryosphaeria dieback in 72 vineyard...Botryosphaeria dieback is a serious disease problem for table and grape wine production worldwide.The disease however,has been less well-studied in China.In this study,we surveyed Botryosphaeria dieback in 72 vineyards of 20 grape-growing regions in China and found that Botryosphaeria dieback occurs in 18 out of 20 provinces.Morphological and multi-gene phylogenetic analyses confirmed that Botryosphaeria dothidea,Diplodia seriata,Lasiodiplodia theobromae and Neofusicoccum parvum are associated with different grapevine dieback symptoms.This study also revealed considerable differences in the geographical distribution of Botryosphaeriaceae species in China with Lasiodiplodia theobromae and Neofusicoccum parvum occurring only in subtropical monsoon climate regions,Diplodia seriata occurring only in temperate monsoon climate regions,and Botryosphaeria dothidea occurring in both temperate and subtropical monsoon climate regions.Analysis of 26 isolates showed that there is little genetic variation within species.Koch’s postulates were satisfied for all species,and pathogenicity testing showed that among the 25 major cultivars growing in China,none was resistant to the four taxa.The current paper represents the first detailed report on Botryosphaeria dieback of grapevines in China.展开更多
