We investigated the anti-nociceptive effect of Excoecorio ogollocho (E.ogollocho) against chemically and thermally induced nociception, Albino mice received a dose of 10, 15, 20, or 25 mg/kg of alkaline chloroform fraction (Alk-CF) of E.ogollocho by oral administration. Compared with controls, AIk-CF decreased the writhing numbers (P〈0.01) in a dose dependent manner. Further we determined that, AIk-CF contained, a potent compared to control, also potent anti-nociceptive agent that acted via opioid receptors and using HPLC, identified this compound as Rutin. Docking simulation demonstrated that Rutin interacted strongly with cyclooxygenase, forming a number of specific hydrogen bonds. In conclusion we have identified peripheral and central anti-nociceptive activities of E.ogollocho that involve opioid receptor, and in which the active compound is Rutin. 展开更多

Grains are one of the major food staples in the world. The cereal grains are easily susceptible to damage by moisture content, flour beetles and food pathogens during storage, harvesting and post harvesting.Food preservative techniques namely drying, freezing, and dehydration, acquire little advantages. However, they cause few undesirable alterations in the organoleptic and nutritional properties of the preserved food items. Therefore, there is a continuous search for new preservation techniques in food industries,to satisfy the customer demands on the addition of natural food preservatives, devoid of pathogenic contaminants and without changes in organoleptic properties.Essential oils(EOs)have been predicted as“natural food additives”in the preservative process. The synergistic potential of EOs with various nanocarriers plays an emerging role in the food industry. Therefore, the present review has focused on the lipid based nanocarriers, and the methods used for the functionalization or encapsulation of EOs and applications in the preservation of food items such as cooked rice, rice flour, grains, sliced breads have also been discussed. The present review ascertains the antimicrobial significance of active EOs loaded lipid nanocarriers in the form of nano emulsions, solid lipid nanoparticles and liposomes for preserving grains and flours. 展开更多

Objective:To document the hypoglycemic and wound healing plant species especially halophytes and associates were carried out in the coastal village of Kodiyampalayam(Southeast coast of India). Methods:The data were collected during the month of December 2011 to November 2012 with personal interviews and group discussion of local coastal fisher women community and traditional practitioner. Results:The results indicated the traditional knowledge of 33 medicinal plant species, photographs, vernacular name, habit, active part and their mode of action.Among these,Citrullus colocynthis,Coccinia grandis,Rhizophora apiculata,Rhizophora mucronata,Bruguiera cylindrica,Excoecaria agallocha and Andrographis paniculata were discovered in huge number. Conclusions:This study concludes medicinal uses of halophytes and associates in the coastal area.It will be needed scientific validation for development of novel therapeutic agents. 展开更多
