The flat-plate turbulent boundary layer at Reτ=1140 is manipulated using a spanwise array of bidirectional dielectric barrier discharge(DBD)plasma actuators.Based on the features of no moving mechanical parts in the DBD plasma control technology and hot-wire anemometer velocity measurements,a novel convenient method of local drag reduction(DR)measurement is proposed by measuring the single-point velocity within the linear region of the viscous sublayer.We analyze the premise of using the method,and the maximum effective measurement range of-73.1%<DR<42.2%is obtained according to the experimental environment in this work.The local drag decreases downstream of the center of two adjacent upper electrodes and increases downstream of the upper electrodes.The magnitude of the local DR increases with increasing voltage and decreases as it moves away from the actuators.For the spanwise position in between,the streamwise distribution of the local DR is very dependent on the voltage.The variable-interval time-average detection results reveal that all bursting intensities are reduced compared to the baseline,and the amount of reduction is comparable to the absolute values of the local DR.Compared with previous results,we infer that the control mechanism is that many meandering streaks are combined together into single stabilized streaks. 展开更多

The turbulent boundary layer control on NACA 0012 airfoil with Mach number ranging from 0.3 to 0.5 by a spanwise array of dielectric barrier discharge(DBD)plasma actuators by hot-film sensor technology is investigated.Due to temperature change mainly caused through heat produced along with plasma will lead to measurement error of shear stress measured by hot-film sensor,the correction method that takes account of the change measured by another sensor is used and works well.In order to achieve the value of shear stress change,we combine computational fluid dynamics computation with experiment to calibrate the hot-film sensor.To test the stability of the hot-film sensor,seven repeated measurements of shear stress at Ma=0.3 are conducted and show that confidence interval of hot-film sensor measurement is from−0.18 to 0.18 Pa and the root mean square is 0.11 Pa giving a relative error 0.5%over all Mach numbers in this experiment.The research on the turbulent boundary layer control with DBD plasma actuators demonstrates that the control makes shear stress increase by about 6%over the three Mach numbers,which is thought to be reliable through comparing it with the relative error 0.5%,and the value is hardly affected by burst frequency and excitation voltage. 展开更多

Automatic detection of sow estrus using a lightweight real-time detector and thermal images

Determination of ovulation time is one of the most important tasks in sow reproduction management.Temperature variation in the vulva of the sows can be used as a predictor of ovulation time.However,the skin temperatures of sows in existing studies are obtained manually from infrared thermal images,posing an obstacle to the automatic prediction of ovulation time.In this study,an improved YOLO-V5s detector based on feature fusion and dilated convolution(FDYOLOV5s)was proposed for the automatic extraction of the vulva temperature of sows based on infrared thermal images.For the purpose of reducing the model complexity,the depthwise separable convolution and the modified lightweight ShuffleNet-V2 module were introduced in the backbone.Meanwhile,the feature fusion network structure of the model was simplified for efficiency,and a mixed dilated convolutional module was designed to obtain global features.The experimental results show that FD-YOLOV5s outperformed the other nine methods,with a mean average precision(mAP)of 99.1%,an average frame rate of 156.25 fps,and a model size of only 3.86 MB,indicating that the method effectively simplifies the model while ensuring detection accuracy.Using a linear regression between manual extraction and the results extracted using this method in randomly selected thermal images,the coefficients of determination for maximum and average vulvar temperatures reached 99.5%and 99.3%,respectively.The continuous vulva temperature of sows was obtained by the target detection algorithm,and the sow estrus detection was performed by the temperature trend and compared with the manually detected estrus results.The results showed that the sensitivity,specificity,and error rate of the estrus detection algorithm were 89.3%,94.5%,and 5.8%,respectively.The method achieves real-time and accurate extraction of sow vulva temperature and can be used for the automatic detection of sow estrus,which could be helpful for the automatic prediction of ovulation time. 展开更多

Along with the rapid development of space technology,extraterrestrial exploration has gradually tended to further-distanced and longer-termed planet exploration.As the first step of an attempt for humans to build a perpetual planet base,building a lunar base by in situ resource utilization(ISRU)will drastically reduce the reliance of supplies from Earth.Lunar resources including mineral resources,water/ice resources,volatiles,and solar energy will contribute to the establishment of a lunar base for long-term life support and scientific exploration missions,although we must consider the challenges from high vacuum,low gravity,extreme temperature conditions,etc.This article provides a comprehensive review of the past developing processes of ISRU and the latest progress of several ISRU technologies,including in situ water access,in situ oxygen production,in situ construction and manufacture,in situ energy utilization,and in situ life support and plant cultivation on the Moon.Despite being able to provide some material and energy supplies for lunar base construction and scientific exploration,the ISRU technologies need continuous validation and upgrade to satisfy the higher requirements from further lunar exploration missions.Ultimately,a 3-step development plan for lunar ISRU technologies in the next decade is proposed,which consists of providing technological solutions,conducting technical verification on payloads,and carrying out in situ experiments,with the ultimate aim of establishing a permanent lunar station and carrying out long-term lunar surface scientific activities.The overview of ISRU techniques and our suggestions will provide potential guidance for China’s future lunar exploration missions. 展开更多

This article introduces a portable wind turbine condition monitoring system(CMS)and its applications in wind turbine drivetrain damage detection.The portable CMS based on vibration detection and analysis has a long application history in conventional rotating machineries,but it is not widely used in wind turbines.There are several reasons why it is not used,including the labor-and knowledge-intensive requirements for test setup and result interpretation.There are also reasons specific to wind turbines,such as the structural diversity of drivetrains,the uncertainty of operational conditions,and the complexity of the damage mechanism of different parts that make the conventional vibration-based CMS inefficient and not cost-effective.All these factors affect the wide application of the portable system.The portable wind turbine CMS discussed in this article is integrated using advanced vibration measurement and analysis methodology.Fault detection for the acquired acceleration response and high-speed shaft speed signal is carried out by a suite of data analysis techniques specifically designed for a wind turbine gearbox.Using these techniques,damage detection accuracy for all the components inside a gearbox is improved significantly,especially for those related to medium-and low-speed shafts.The new data processing techniques also are briefly described with the developed methodologies verified by three wind turbines with typical low-speed shaft-related component damages.These damage assessments include the low-and medium-speed planetary stage ring gear,the low-speed planetary stage planet gear and damage to the main bearing. 展开更多
