Alzheimer's disease(AD)is a common neurodegenerative disease,which seriously impairs human health and life.At present,scientists have proposed more than a dozen hypotheses about the pathogenesis of AD,including th...Alzheimer's disease(AD)is a common neurodegenerative disease,which seriously impairs human health and life.At present,scientists have proposed more than a dozen hypotheses about the pathogenesis of AD,including the tau propagation hypothesis.However,the exact ultimate pathogenic factor of AD remains unknown.Based on the current hypotheses,some anti-AD drugs(e.g.,donepezil and Ketamine)have been developed and used in clinical treatment,which fall into two main categories,acetylcholinesterase inhibitors(AChEIs)and N-methyl-D-aspartate(NMDA)receptor antagonists,the former representative drug is donepezil,and the latter representative drug is memantine.Since these drugs have undesirable side effects,it is necessary to find safer alternatives for AD treatment.Interestingly,dietary phytochemicals have the advantages of wide source,safety,and high biological activity,which is the natural route for screening anti-AD drugs.In this study,several representatives’dietary phytochemicals with anti-AD effect,including resveratrol,lycopene,gallic acid,berberine,ginsenoside Rg1,pseudoginsenoside-F11,ginsenoside Rh2,artemisinin,and torularhodin were selected from the published data over the last 10 years and their potential molecular mechanisms and clinical applications reviewed in the treatment of AD.展开更多
Parkinson’s disease(PD)is a very common neurodegenerative disease that occurs mostly in the elderly.There are many main clinical manifestations of PD,such as tremor,bradykinesia,muscle rigidity,etc.Based on the curre...Parkinson’s disease(PD)is a very common neurodegenerative disease that occurs mostly in the elderly.There are many main clinical manifestations of PD,such as tremor,bradykinesia,muscle rigidity,etc.Based on the current research on PD,the accurate and convenient detection of early symptoms is the key to detect PD.With the development of microelectronic and sensor technology,it is much easier to measure the barely noticeable tremor in just one hand for the early detection of Parkinson’s disease.In this paper,we present a smart wearable device for detecting hand tremor,in which MPU6050(MIDI Processing Unit)consisting of a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis accelerometer is used to collect acceleration and angular velocity of fingers.By analyzing the time of specific finger movements,we successfully recognized the tremor signals with high accuracy.Meanwhile,with Bluetooth 4.0(Bluetooth Low Energy,BLE)and networking terminal ability,tremor data can be transferred to a monitoring device in real time with extremely lowenergy consumption.The experimental results have shown that the proposed device(smart ring)is convenient for long-term tremor detection which is vital for early detection and treatment for Parkinson’s disease.展开更多
The susceptible strain of Tetranychus cinnabarinus (Boisduval) was collected from the cassava germplasm resource garden of Guangxi South Subtropical Agricultural Science Research Institute and raised for 15 generation...The susceptible strain of Tetranychus cinnabarinus (Boisduval) was collected from the cassava germplasm resource garden of Guangxi South Subtropical Agricultural Science Research Institute and raised for 15 generations,during which resistance selection against avermectin was performed through the indoor spraying of avermectin,thereby obtaining an avermectin-resistance strain (Ab-R) with a resistance ratio of 3.25.After the indoor resistance selection,the determination of detoxification enzyme activity in the Ab-R and SS strains showed that the specific activity of carboxylesterases (CarE),glutathione-s-transferases (GSTs) and multi-functional oxidase (MFO) in Ab-R15 was 1.27,1.69 and 1.92 times of that in SS,respectively.In addition,the specific activity of MFO in Ab-R5,Ab-R10 and Ab-R15 was significantly different from that in SS;there was no significant difference in the specific activity of CarE compared with SS when screened to the F10 generation;and when screened to the F5 generation,there was no significant difference in the specific activity of GSTs compared with SS.The results showed that the significant increase in MFO activity was an important cause of resistance to avermectin in T.cinnabarinus,and CarE and GSTs were also involved in the formation of avermectin-resistant strains.展开更多
Space radiation has been well-known as the main health hazard to crews involved in manned space explorations.Two kinds of hydrogenous-rich composites are developed through compressing molding under high-temperature pr...Space radiation has been well-known as the main health hazard to crews involved in manned space explorations.Two kinds of hydrogenous-rich composites are developed through compressing molding under high-temperature processing techniques for shielding space radiation.Beams of 80~400 MeV/n ^(12)C of the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou are used to test the shielding properties of the new composites.Experimental results show that the composite with more hydrogen content has higher shielding ability for 80 and 400 MeV/n ^(12)C particles.Meanwhile,the addition of boron has no obvious effect on improving the shielding performance of the composite.Monte Carlo radiation transport codes were used to assess the shielding performance of composite in real space radiation.The simulation results show that hydrogenous-rich composite has significant advantage in space radiation shielding compared with traditional aluminum.展开更多
