Objective To investigate how well a combined therapy prevents and treats familial polyposis coli and to observe whether aspirin prevents duodenal polyp development after operation. Methods Aspirin was started one month after the operation on 6 patients with familial polyposis coli. It was given 60 mg once a day for one month, and then was discontinued for one month, then used again for one month, and then discontinued for one month; in this way, aspirin was used every two months for the patient’s life. The follow-up was performed for 17 years. Results The combined therapy, which consisted of a surgical operation of cutting the superior mesenteric artery & vein and making anastomosis of the ileum pouch and the anal canal within the muscular sheath of the rectum and an internal medical therapy of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, had a good therapeutic effect on familial polyposis coli and no duodenal polyp occurred in the 6 patients. Conclusion Our combined therapy can effectively treat familial polyposis coli, and aspirin can prevent duodenal polyp development after the operation. 展开更多

Background Pomegranate (punica granatum) belongs to the family Punicaceae, and its peel has been used as a traditional Chinese medicine because of its efficacy in restraining intestine, promoting hemostasis, and killing parasites. Pomegranate peel has been reported to possess wound-healing properties which are mainly attributed to its polyphenol extracts. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of pomegranate peel polyphenols (PPP) gel on cutaneous wound healing in diabetic rats. Methods AIIoxan-induced diabetic rats were given incisional wounds on each side of the mid-back and then treated daily with PPP gel (polyphenol mass fraction =30%) post-wounding. Rats were sacrificed on days 4, 7, 14, and 21 post-wounding to assess the rates of wound closure, histological characteristics; and to detect the contents of hydroxyproline, production of nitric oxide (NO), and activities of NO synthase (NOS), as well as the expressions of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and epidermal growth factor (EGF) in wound tissue. Results Wound closure was significantly shortened when PPP gel was applied to the wounds of diabetic rats. Histological examination showed the ability of PPP gel to increase fibroblast infiltration, collagen regeneration, vascularization, and epithelialization in the wound area of diabetic rats. In addition, PPP gel-treated diabetic rats showed increased contents of hydroxyproline, production of NO, and activities of NOS and increased expressions of TGF-β1, VEGF, and EGF in wound tissues. Conclusion PPP gel may be a beneficial method for treating wound disorders associated with diabetes. 展开更多

Background Atrioventricular block(AVB)is associated with adverse events even cardiac death. Serum uric acid(SUA)might lead to cadiovascular disease including arrhythmia and SUA lowering therapy could lower the risk. But the study of the association between AVB and SUA is rare at present. Method Sixty-four patients with AVB from Sep 2017 to Sep 2018 were enrolled as case group and another 64 patients in the same period were enrolled as control group. The levels of serum uric acid(SUA)and related parameters were compared between the two groups. Results The level of SUA was significantly higher in case group than in control group(402.13±140.08 vs. 351.17±87.81,P=0.015). HUA was associated with AVB significantly(OR 2.863,95%CI1.305~6.279,P=0.009),even after adjustment for confounding factors(OR 2.609,95%CI 1.081~6.296,P=0.033). For the comparison among AVB subgroups, only the association between HUA and Ⅲ-degree subtypes was found significantly(OR 3.411,95%CI 1.452~8.016,P=0.005). Conclusion HUA is positively associated with AVB independent of other potential confounding factors. But further analysis of different subtypes indicated that only the association between HUA and Ⅲ-degree AVB was found significant. 展开更多
