Ordovician diorite-quartz diorite mylonite(Saganoseki quartz diorite) was discovered in Sambagawa metamorphic terrane at the northern margin of Saganoseki Peninsula,Kyushu Island,Japan.The LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb geochronology revealed that the intrusion age of Saganoseki quartz diorite was 473.3±3.6 Ma.These rocks show the volcanic arc affinity based on the trace element composition.On the basis of geochronological and geochemical results,Saganoseki quartz diorite is considered to be a member of the Early Paleozoic igneous rocks of the Kurosegawa tectonic zone.Saganoseki quartz diorite is located just south of the Median Tectonic Line(MTL)and is in close contact with the pelitic and psammitic schist without any brittle shear zone.U-Pb ages of detrital zircon grains from two psammitic schists show the estimated sedimentation age of early Late Cretaceous,indicate that these psammitic schists are the member of Sambagawa metamorphic rocks.Together with these results and the mode of occurrence in the field,we argue that the Early Paleozoic igneous rocks of the Kurosegawa tectonic zone existed as an upper structural unit of the Sambagawa terrane.This relationship is the key to reconstruct the Mesozoic tectonics of Japan as a part of East Asia,and its evolution through time. 展开更多

Effect of calcium and diltiazem on phenylhydrazine-induced oxidative injury in goat erythrocytes

Lipid peroxidation, hemolysis and thiol contents were studied in intact goat erythrocytes exposed to phenylhydrazine. An increase in lipid peroxidation, hemolysis and thiol content was observed after phenylhydrazine treatment of erythrocyte. Extracellular Ca2+ potentiates the phenylhydrazine-induced lipid peroxidation and hemoly- sis of erythrocytes significantly. Ca2+ does not influence much the thiol content of phenylhydrazine treated erythrocytes. No effect of Ca2+ on control lipid peroxidation, hemolysis and thiol contents of erythrocytes was observed. Diltiazem and EDTA inhibited the increased responses of lipid peroxidation and hemolysis due to Ca2+. However the thiol content was not much influenced by either diltiazem or EDTA. The results suggest that oxidative damage of erythrocyte caused by phenyl hydrazine could be prevented by calcium channel antagonist, diltiazem, which may act as antioxidant also. 展开更多

Tectonic juxtaposition of crust and continental growth during orogenesis: Example from the Rengali Province, eastern India

The southern houndary of the Singhbhum Craton witnessed multiple orogenies that juxtaposed thin slice of granulite suite of the Rengali Province against the low-grade granite-greenstone belt of the craton along the E-W trending Sukinda Thrust. The strong southerly dipping mylonitic foliation within the granulites along with the pronlinent down-dip mineral lineation, suggest a northerly-verging thrusting. Mylonitized charnockite at the contact zone contains enclaves of mafic and ultranlafic granulite, whereas granitoid gneiss contains enclaves of pelitic granulite. Mafic granulite enclaves preserve an early (SiM) foliation that formed during DiM deformation. This rock, along with the host charnockite, were intensely deformed by the D2M thrusting event and resulting S2M foliation development in both rock suites. Geothermobaronietric and pseudosection analyses show that the garnet-clinopyroxene-plagioclase- orthopyroxene-ihllenite-quartz assemblage in mafic granulite was stabilized at high-pressure and temperature conditions (10 12 kbar, 860 C) and was overprinted by a fine-grained assemblage of cli- nopyroxene-plagioclase J hornblende that developed during deconlpression (down to 5.5-7.5 I〈bar). Matrix hornblende shows incipient breakdown to garnet-clinopyroxene-quartz intergrowth due to a granulite facies reworking. A contrasting P-T history is preserved in the pelitic granulite. The peak assemblage garnet-orthopyroxene-cordierite-quartz-rutile was stabilized at -6.0 kbar, 730 C which resulted flom heating of the mid crust magma during the D2M thrusting. The contrasting P-T histories could result flonl the tectonic juxtaposition of lowerand mid-crustal section during the D2M event. Evidences of an early orogenic imprint within the mafic granulite imply involvement of deep continental crust during southward growth of the Singhbhum Craton. 展开更多

Lithium-ion batteries have an essential characteristic in consumer electronics applications and electric mobility.However,predicting their lifetime performance is a difficult task due to the impact of operating and environmental conditions.Additionally,state-of-health(SOH)and remaining-useful-life(RUL)predictions have developed into crucial components of the energy management system for lifetime prediction to guarantee the best possible performance.Due to the non-linear behaviour of the health prediction of electric vehicle batteries,the assessment of SOH and RUL has therefore become a core research challenge for both business and academics.This paper introduces a comprehensive analysis of the application of machine learning in the domain of electric vehicle battery management,emphasizing state prediction and ageing prognostics.The objective is to provide comprehensive information about the evaluation,categorization and multiple machine-learning algorithms for predicting the SOH and RUL.Additionally,lithium-ion bat-tery behaviour,the SOH estimation approach,key findings,advantages,challenges and potential of the battery management system for different state estimations are discussed.The study identifies the common challenges encountered in traditional battery manage-ment and provides a summary of how machine learning can be employed to address these challenges. 展开更多

Immune dysfunction is well documented during tumor progression and likely contributes to tumor immune evasion.CD81 cytotoxic T lymphocytes(CTLs)are involved in antigen-specific tumor destruction and CD41 T cells are essential for helping this CD81 T cell-dependent tumor eradication.Tumors often target and inhibit T-cell function to escape from immune surveillance.This dysfunction includes loss of effector and memory T cells,bias towards type 2 cytokines and expansion of T regulatory(Treg)cells.Curcumin has previously been shown to have antitumor activity and some research has addressed the immunoprotective potential of this plant-derived polyphenol in tumor-bearing hosts.Here we examined the role of curcumin in the prevention of tumor-induced dysfunction of T cell-based immune responses.We observed severe loss of both effector and memory T-cell populations,downregulation of type 1 and upregulation of type 2 immune responses and decreased proliferation of effector T cells in the presence of tumors.Curcumin,in turn,prevented this loss of T cells,expanded central memory T cell(TCM)/effector memory T cell(TEM)populations,reversed the type 2 immune bias and attenuated the tumor-induced inhibition of T-cell proliferation in tumor-bearing hosts.Further investigation revealed that tumor burden upregulated Treg cell populations and stimulated the production of the immunosuppressive cytokines transforming growth factor(TGF)-b and IL-10 in these cells.Curcumin,however,inhibited the suppressive activity of Treg cells by downregulating the production of TGF-b and IL-10 in these cells.More importantly,curcumin treatment enhanced the ability of effector T cells to kill cancer cells.Overall,our observations suggest that the unique properties of curcumin may be exploited for successful attenuation of tumor-induced suppression of cell-mediated immune responses. 展开更多

The operation of transmission systems with large share of wind power is specially challenging under storm conditions.Under the stormy wind speed conditions,wind turbine protection system is designed to shut down the turbine to avoid excessive mechanical load.The sudden loss of wind power from large offshore plants is difficult to forecast accurately,which results in a large amount of power imbalance.The severity of such a wind power imbalance towards frequency stability needs to be studied for the future power systems.In addition,the overhead transmission lines can also be affected during storms,thereby increasing their probability of failure in the operation of power system under the islanded conditions.This paper investigates how the stormy weather can threaten the frequency stability of future Danish power system with large share of wind power and how to avoid the frequency instability through proper control and defence strategies such as high-voltage direct current(HVDC)control and load shedding.Sensitivity studies are performed for ramp rates of HVDC control,load shedding strategies,inertia of the system with different volumes of disturbances to understand their impact on frequency stability. 展开更多

Upconversion nanoparticles(UC NPs)in combination with plasmonic materials have great potential for cancer photothermal therapy.Recently,sodium holmium fluoride(NaHoF4)is being investigated for luminescence and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)contrast agent.Here,we present successful synthesis of excellent quality doped NaHoF4 NPs for possible UC luminescence application and coated for possible photothermal therapy application.Synthesized NaHoF4 nanocrystals were doped with Yb/Er and coated with gold,gold/silica,silver and polypyrrole(PPy).XRD,XPS and TEM were used to determine structure and morphology of the NPs.Strong UC photoluminescence(PL)emission spectra were obtained from the NPs when excited by near-infrared(NIR)light at 980 nm.Cell viability and toxicity of the NPs were characterized using pancreatic and ovarian cancer cells with results showing that gold/silica coating produced least toxicity followed by gold coating. 展开更多
