Synthesis, Growth and Characterization of an Organic Material: P-Chloroanilinium Ethanoate

Aromatic organic material of P-Chloroanilinium ethanoate (CAE) has been synthesized by condensation process using methanol as a solvent. The synthesized product is allowed to evaporate slowly at room temperature and crystals of cell dimension 25 × 29 × 10 mm3 were grown. The grown material was subjected to single crystal X-ray diffraction to obtain the cell parameters. The presence of functional groups in the grown material was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared and Fourier transform Raman spectral studies. The UV-VIS absorption spectrum reveals that the material has lower UV cut-off wavelength at 337 nm. Using the Kurtz Perry Powder method, the NLO activity was confirmed. Mechanical strength of the crystal was estimated by Vickers micro hardness test which shows that the material belongs to the soft category. The thermal behavior of the material was investigated by using thermo gravimetric and differential scanning calorimetric analyses. 展开更多

Organic nonlinear optical material of 4-bromo-4’-methyl benzylidene aniline (BMBA) was synthesized and single crystal of BMBA was grown by solvent evaporation method at room temperature using ethanol as solvent. The crystalline nature of the grown crystals was confirmed using powder X-ray diffraction studies. The crystals were also characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction method and their lattice parameters were determined. Thermal properties of BMBA were evaluated with thermogravimetric, differential thermal and differential scanning calorimetric analyses. Fourier transform infrared and FT-Raman spectral studies were carried out on the BMBA material to confirm the synthesized compound. 1H and 13C-nuclear magnetic resonance spectral studies were recorded to elucidate the structure of the grown crystals. Fluorescence spectrum recorded shows a peak at 485 nm. UV-Vis-NIR spectral analysis shows transmittance of ~92% in the visible region. The mechanical stability was analyzed by Vickers microhardness tester and the work hardening coefficient of the grown crystal was calculated. Second harmonic generation efficiency of the grown crystal measured by Kurtz powder technique is ~1.8 times that of potassium dihydrogen orthophosphate. 展开更多

Nonlinear optical single crystal of Serine Succinate (SSA) was grown from a mixed solvent of water, ethanol and methanol. Since amino acid exhibits nonlinear optical property, it is of interest to dope them in serine. The overwhelming success of molecular engineering in controlling nonlinear optical properties in last decade has prompted better initiative in crystal engineering. In the present study single crystals of serine doped with succinic acid in different ratios have been grown by slow evaporation solution growth method. Grown serine succinate crystals were subjected to various characterization techniques. The cell parameters of the grown crystals were characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis. FT-Raman spectral studies were carried out on the SAA grown material to confirm the synthesized compound and the functional groups of serine succinate single crystal were identified from FTIR analysis. The optical transparency and upper cut off value of UV transmission spectrum of SSA crystal were recorded. Fluorescence study was also carried out for the grown materials. The mechanical hardness was estimated by Vickers’s micro hardness tester. The second harmonic generation (SHG) of the grown crystal was confirmed by Kurtz powder technique. Thermal properties of serine succinate crystal were evaluated with thermogravimetric, differential thermal and differential scanning calorimetric analyses. The SEM studies were also reported. 展开更多
