In order to fulfill users' accuracy requirements on the transverse thickness of silicon steel and improve the production yield, the factors influencing transverse thickness difference were analyzed. Then the work roll shape, control strategy and incoming hot-rolled strips were optimized. Since the optimization measures were implemented in the actual production, the thickness difference of non-oriented silicon steel has been reduced greatly and fulfilled the requirements placed by users. The cooling and lubrication process is one of the key processes in cold rolling,as it not only determines surface quality and strip shape,but also reduces the rolling power consumption and extends the life of the roll...The cooling and lubrication process is one of the key processes in cold rolling,as it not only determines surface quality and strip shape,but also reduces the rolling power consumption and extends the life of the roll even during high-speed operation.In this study,an innovative method combining emulsion lubrication and neat oil lubrication was used to solve some problems associated with individual passes.Laboratory tests on stainless steel strips showed that this new lubrication method could improve the surface quality of the strip,control the rolling friction in the deformation zone,and has the potential of making lubrication systems simpler and easier to operate,all while reducing the negative environmental impact from emulsion processing.展开更多

These oxides, which are commonly called scales, must be eliminated before other post-processing. Currently, chemical pickling is the most widespread technology for descaling. However, chemical pickling depicts several drawbacks such as severe pollution, high cost, and unstable quality. Consequently, Baosteel initiated the Baosteel mechanical descaling (BMD) technology research in 2009. The BMD technology uses a water jet containing abrasive to eliminate the scales. The metal surface after BMD processing achieves an excellent surface quality with grade of Sa3.0 and satisfies the requirement of subsequent processes such as stamping, coating, and cold rolling. In this study, the development history, process feature, and industrial application of the BMD technology are presented. In addition, further development and prospects of the BMD technology are forecasted.展开更多
