BACKGROUND Gastric phytobezoars(GPBs)are very common in northern China.Combined therapy involving carbonated beverage consumption and endoscopic lithotripsy has been shown to be effective and safe.Existing studies on ...BACKGROUND Gastric phytobezoars(GPBs)are very common in northern China.Combined therapy involving carbonated beverage consumption and endoscopic lithotripsy has been shown to be effective and safe.Existing studies on this subject are often case reports highlighting the successful dissolution of phytobezoars through Coca-Cola consumption.Consequently,large-scale prospective investigations in this domain remain scarce.Therefore,we conducted a randomized controlled trial to examine the effects of Coca-Cola consumption on GPBs.AIM To evaluate the impact of Coca-Cola on GPBs,including the dissolution rate,medical expenses,ulcer rate,and operation time.METHODS A total of 160 consecutive patients diagnosed with GPBs were allocated into two groups(a control group and an intervention group)through computer-generated randomization.Patients in the intervention group received a Coca-Cola-based regimen(Coca-Cola 2000-4000 mL per day for 7 d),while those in the control group underwent emergency fragmentation.RESULTS Complete dissolution of GPBs was achieved in 100% of the patients in the intervention group.The disparity in expenses between the control group and intervention group(t=25.791,P=0.000)was statistically significant,and the difference in gastric ulcer occurrence between the control group and intervention group(χ^(2)=6.181,P=0.013)was also statistically significant.CONCLUSION Timely ingestion of Coca-Cola yields significant benefits,including a complete dissolution rate of 100%,a low incidence of gastric ulcers,no need for fragmentation and reduced expenses.展开更多

Objective This study aimed to analyze the fungal species of pathogens isolated from patients with superficial mucocutaneous mycosis from May 2007 to December 2018.Methods A retrospective analysis was carried out to de...Objective This study aimed to analyze the fungal species of pathogens isolated from patients with superficial mucocutaneous mycosis from May 2007 to December 2018.Methods A retrospective analysis was carried out to determine the pathogenic fungi isolated from patients with superficial fungal infections in the Medical Mycology Clinical Laboratory,Department of Dermatology and Venereology,Union Hospital,from May 2007 to December 2018.Results A total of 7639 strains were obtained,belonging to 21 genera and 36 species.They mainly consisted of Candida(3707/7639,48.53%)and dermatophytes(3594/7639,47.05%).The specimens were skin scales,nail shavings,secretions on the nail grooves,broken or diseased hair and dandruff,secretions or pseudomembrane of the external genitalia,and the oral mucosa.A total of 7300 patients were enrolled in this study,including 3301 males and 3999 females aged 2 months to 92 years old with a median age of 46.04 years old except for 633 patients whose ages were unknown.Two strains of different species were isolated from each of 339 patients at different body sites.The most frequent species were Trichophyton rubrum complex(2906/7639,38.04%),Candida albicans(2619/7639,34.28%),and unclassified Candida spp.Dermatophytes were mostly isolated from glabrous skin(2138/3594,59.49%),with T.rubrum complex being the predominant species.Candida strains were most commonly isolated from mucosal sites(1979/3707,53.39%),and C.albicans was the most prevalent causative agent.Conclusion The main distribution of pathogenic fungal species isolated from patients with superficial mycosis from 2007 to 2018 in Wuhan,Hubei province and the surrounding areas was that Candida slightly outnumbered dermatophytes.Among all of the isolated strains,T.rubrum complex was the most abundant.展开更多
Background:Esophageal injury is a common complication of foreign bodies in the upper gastrointestinal tract,but bilateral pleural effusion or vertebral infection is a rare condition due to a swallowed fishbone.It is c...Background:Esophageal injury is a common complication of foreign bodies in the upper gastrointestinal tract,but bilateral pleural effusion or vertebral infection is a rare condition due to a swallowed fishbone.It is considerably difficult for a physician to diagnose quickly because of incomplete patient history of foreign bodies ingestion and/or insufficient experiences.Patient concerns:We describe the case of a 56-year-old man who was admitted to an emergency medical department owing to a low to moderate fever for 7 days.After a series of examinations,the patient was diagnosed with esophageal perforation(EP)caused by a fishbone that was swallowed half a month ago.Diagnoses:About 12 days after the onset of fever,he was diagnosed with EP based on the gastric endoscopic images combined with histological section and sufficient history of the disease.About 2 months later,the patient has obvious back pain and lack of strength in two legs and was diagnosed with vertebral body infection.Interventions:Antibiotic therapy,multi-disciplinary team(MDT),and surgical intervention had been exerted.Outcomes:It is very fortunate for this patient to have a good prognosis due to a timely diagnosis and proper management.Muscle power has attained level 5.Lessons:Several lessons can be learned from this case;for example,physicians should be alerted to the EP,endoscopic intervention should be prompt,antibiotics should be used regularly,and so on.展开更多

Here, we report that the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) sucrose transporter SUT4 interacts with five members of the Arabidopsis cytochrome b5 (Cyb5) family, and sucrose represses the interaction between SUT4 and a Cyb5 member Cyb5-2/A. We observed that down- regulation of SUT4 and three cytochrome b5 members (Cyb5-2, Cyb5-4, and Cyb5-6) confers the sucrose- and glucose- insensitive phenotypes in the sucrose/glucose-induced inhibition of seed germination. The sut4 cybS-2 double mutant displays slightly stronger sucrose/glucose-insensitive phenotypes than either the sut4 or cyb5-2 single mutant. We showed that the SUT4/Cyb5-2-mediated signaling in the sucrose/glucose-induced inhibition of seed germination does not require ABA or the currently known ABI2/ABI4/ABI5-mediated signaling pathway(s). These data provide evidence that the sucrose transporter SUT4 interacts with Cyb5 to positively mediate sucrose and glucose signaling in the sucrose/ glucose-induced inhibition of seed germination.展开更多

It is found that the predominant fracture mode under small pre- deformation is dimple. The analysis of the colony size and the lamellar structure near the fracture surface indicates that each dimple roots from one colony. A simulation of tensile deformation with several pearlitic colonies based on the real scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observation shows that the plastic deformation concentrates and the stress t^hxialit~" is larger ~it the boundaries bf colonies. It demonstrates the microe/'a^ks initialize at colony boundaries. Thus, the colony size is a significant factor for fracture behaviors under small pre-deformation. On the other hand, the fracture surface is investigated after large pre-deformation via torsion. The results show that fracture characteristics vary with radius from dimples, elongated dimples to the fibrous structure. It indicates that the fracture charac-teristics are dependent on the pre-deformation. The fracture mode under large pre-deformation becomes an anisotropic fibrous structure instead of dimples.展开更多

A direct simulation about the mechanical behaviors and microstructural evolution of pearlitic lamellae was presented. A representative volume element (RVE) containing one pearlitic colony was established based on the real transmission electron microscope (TEM) observation. The deformation of pearlitic colony during tension, shear and wire drawing were successfully simulated. The numerical results show that this metallographic texture leads to a strong anisotropy. The colony has higher yielding stress when the la mellar direction is parallel and perpendicular to the tensile direction. The lamellar evolution is strongly dependent on the initial direction and deformation mode. The formation of typical period shear bands is analyzed. In the wire draw ing, the pearlitic colony at the sub surface experiences a complex strain path: rotation, stretching along the die sur face, and rotation back.展开更多

A representative volume element (RVE) containing one pearlitic colony was established based on the real transmission electron microscope (TEM) observation. The deformation of pearlitic colony during tension, shear and wire drawing were successfully simulated. The numerical results show that this metallographic texture leads to a strong anisotropy. The colony has higher yielding stress when the la mellar direction is parallel and perpendicular to the tensile direction. The lamellar evolution is strongly dependent on the initial direction and deformation mode. The formation of typical period shear bands is analyzed. In the wire draw ing, the pearlitic colony at the sub surface experiences a complex strain path: rotation, stretching along the die sur face, and rotation back.
