Down-regulation of microRNA-148a (miR-148a) has been reported in certain cancer types. However, the biological role of miR-148a and its related targets in breast cancer are unknown yet. In this study, we showed that the level of miR-148a was lower in MCF7 cells than that in MCF10A cells. V-erb-b2 erythroblastic leukemia viral oncogene homolog 3 (ERBB3) is a direct target of miR-148a in human breast cancer cells through direct binding of miR-148a to ERBB3 3’-UTR region. Overexpression of miR-148a in MCF7 cells inhibited ERBB3 expression, blocked the downstream pathway activation including activation of AKT, ERK1/2, and p70S6K1, and decreased HIF-1α expression. Furthermore, forced expression of miR-148a attenuated tumor angiogenesis in vivo. Our re-sults identify ERBB3 as a direct target of miR-148a, and provide direct evidence that miR-148a inhibits tumor an-giogenesis through ERBB3 and its downstream signaling molecules. This information would be helpful for target-ing the miR-148a/ERBB3 pathway for breast cancer prevention and treatment in the future.展开更多

The results showed that overall the income gap between China's rural areas was on the rise from 1998 to 2006,and the income gap was mainly caused by the gap between the East China,Central China and West China. After 2006,it showed a slow decline. The dynamic panel data model established for consumer demand, spending habits, income, regional income disparities showed that income and regional income disparities significantly influence consumer demand of rural residents. Before 2006 regional income gap inhibited the consumption of rural residents, but it promoted consumption after 2006.展开更多

To ensure its survival and maintain its B cell transformation function, EBV has developed powerful strategies to evade host immune responses. Emerging evidence has shown that micro RNAs(mi RNAs) are powerful regulators of the maintenance of cellular homeostasis. In this review, we summarize current progress on how EBV utilizes mi RNAs for immune evasion. EBV encodes mi RNAs targeting both viral and host genes involved in the immune response. The mi RNAs are found in two gene clusters, and recent studies have demonstrated that lack of these clusters increases the CD4^+ and CD8^+ T cell response of infected cells. These reports strongly indicate that EBV mi RNAs are critical for immune evasion. In addition, EBV is able to dysregulate the expression of a variety of host mi RNAs, which influence multiple immune-related molecules and signaling pathways. The transport via exosomes of EBV-regulated mi RNAs and viral proteins contributes to the construction and modification of the inflammatory tumor microenvironment.During EBV immune evasion, viral proteins, immune cells, chemokines, pro-inflammatory cytokines, and pro-apoptosis molecules are involved. Our increasing knowledge of the role of mi RNAs in immune evasion will improve the understanding of EBV persistence and help to develop new treatments for EBV-associated cancers and other diseases.展开更多

Two devices using the 3 R and DELTA mechanisms respectively are developed to be manipulated to control the position and orientation of a large-sized slave robot by using both of a user's two hands respectively. The hybrid motion mapping method combines rate control and variable scaled position mapping to realize accurate and efficient master-slave control. Haptic feedback for these two mapping modes is designed with emphasis on ergonomics to improve the immersion of haptic based teleoperation. A stiffness estimation method is used to calculate the contact stiffness on the slave side and play the contact force rendered by using a traditional spring-damping model to a user on the master side stably. Experiments by using virtual environments to simulate the slave side are conducted to validate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed solution.展开更多

Among these mechanisms, herpesviruses utilize elaborate extracellular vesicles, including exosomes, for the intricate interplay between infected host and recipient cells. Herpesviruses incorporate genome expression products and direct cellular products into exosomal cargoes. These components alter the content and function of exosomes released from donor cells, thus affecting the downstream signalings of recipient cells. In this way, herpesviruses hijack exosomal pathways to ensure their survival and persistence, and exosomes are emerging as critical mediators for virus infection-associated intercellular communication and microenvironment alteration. In this review, the function and effects of exosomes in herpesvirus infection will be discussed, so that we will have a better understanding about the pathogenesis of herpesviruses.展开更多

Here we demonstrated that EBV-encoded latent membrane protein 1(LMP1) promoted cyclophilin A(CYPA) expression through the activation of NF-κB. The depletion of CYPA suppressed cell proliferation and facilitated apoptosis.CYPA was able to bind to AKT1, thus activating AKT/mTOR/NF-κB signaling cascade. Moreover, the use of mTOR inhibitor, rapamycin, subverted the activation of the positive feedback loop, NF-κB/CYPA/AKT/mTOR. It is reasonable that LMP1 expression derived from initial viral infection is enough to assure the constant potentiation of AKT/mTOR and NF-κB signalings. This may partly explain the fact that EBV serves as a tumor-promoting factor with minimal expression of the viral oncoprotein LMP1 in malignancies. Our findings provide new insight into the understanding of causative role of EBV in tumorigenicity during latent infection.展开更多

In the present work, the ND was successfully modified only using aqueous ammonia through an easy-to-operate method by replacing the hydrogen atoms in the carboxyl group with ammonium ions. Ammonia, which is the only pollutant in the process, could be recycled. The modified ND/epoxy composite showed an overwhelming advantage over the neat epoxy or the ND/epoxy composite in storage modulus in their glassy state without any degradation of tensile strength, hardness and fracture toughness.展开更多
