A model of the photonic spin Hall effect(PSHE)in antisymmetric parity-time(APT)metamaterials with incidence of Gaussian beams is proposed here.We derive the displacement expression of the PSHE in APT metamaterials based on the transport properties of Gaussian beams in positive and negative refractive index materials.Furthermore,detailed discussions are provided on the APT scattering matrix,eigenstate ratio,and response near exceptional points in the case of loss or gain.In contrast to the unidirectional non-reflection in parity-time(PT)symmetric systems,the transverse shift that arises from both sides of the APT structure is consistent.By effectively adjusting the parameters of APT materials,we achieve giant displacements of the transverse shift.Finally,we present a multi-layer APT structure consisting of alternating left-handed and right-handed materials.By increasing the number of layers,Bragg oscillations can be generated,leading to an increase in resonant peaks in transverse shift.This study presents a new approach to achieving giant transverse shifts in the APT structure.This lays a theoretical foundation for the fabrication of related nano-optical devices. 展开更多

Electron-deficient viologens are widely used as ligands or structure-directing agents(SDAs)to synthesize crystalline X-ray induced photochromic materials.Here,a new rational strategy of anion-directed fold-ing a flexible cation(H_(2)imb)^(2+)((H_(2)imb)^(2+)=di-protonated 2,3-bis(imidazolin-2-yl)-2,3-dimethylbutane)has been developed.Electron-donating Cl−and(ZnCl4)2−are used to direct folding a flexible electron-deficient(H_(2)imb)^(2+)cation.Three complexes(H_(2)imb)(NO_(3))2(1),(H_(2)imb)Cl2·H_(2)O(2),and(H_(2)imb)ZnCl4(3)have been synthesized in which(H_(2)imb)^(2+)crystallize in an anti-conformation,88.8°-gauche,and 51.8°-gauche,respectively.In contrary to X-ray silent complex 1,X-ray induced photochromism has been achieved in both complex 2 and 3.An intermolecular charge-transfer mechanism has been elucidated and the anion directed folding of(H_(2)imb)^(2+)has been validated to be critical to yield colored long-lived charge-separated states. 展开更多

Methane emissions and plastic pollution are critical global challenges.The biological conversion of methane to poly-b-hydroxybutyrate(PHB)not only mitigates methane emissions but also provides biodegradable polymer substitutes for petroleum-based materials used in plastics production.This work provides an early overview of the methane-based PHB advances and discusses challenges and related strategies.Recent advances of PHB,including PHB biosynthetic pathways,methanotrophs,bioreactors,and the performances of PHB materials are introduced.Major challenges of methane-based PHB production are discussed in detail;these include low efficiency of methanotrophs,low gas-liquid mass transfer efficiency,and poor material properties.To overcome these limitations,various approaches are also explored,such as feast-famine regimes,engineered microorganisms,gas-permeable membrane bioreactors,two-phase partitioning bioreactors,poly-b-hydroxybutyrate-co-hydroxyvalerate synthesis,and molecular weight manipulation. 展开更多
