In this paper,an improvement has been made to the approximation technique of a complex domain through the stair-step approach to have a considerable accuracy,minimize computational cost,and avoid the hardship of manual work.A novel stair-step representation algorithm is used in this regard,where the entire procedure is carried out through our developed MATLAB routine.Arakawa C-grid is used in our approximation with(1/120)°grid resolution.As a test case,the method is applied to approximate the domain covering the area between 15°-23°N latitudes and 85°-95°E longitudes in the Bay of Bengal.Along with the approximation of the land-sea interface,coastal stations are also identified.Approximated land-sea interfaces and coastal stations are found to be in good agreement with the actual ones based on the similarity index,overlap fraction,and extra fraction criteria.The method can be used for approximating an irregular geometric domain to employ the finite difference method in solving problems related to long waves.As a test case,shallow water equations in Cartesian coordinates are solved on the domain of interest for simulating water levels due to the nonlinear tide-surge interaction associated with the storms April 1991 and AILA,2009 along the coast of Bangladesh.The same input except for the discretized domain and bathymetry as that of Paul et al.(2016)is used in our simulation.The results are found to be in reasonable agreement with the observed data procured from Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority. 展开更多

Due to the unpredictable climate change,drought stress is being considered as one of the major threats to crop production.Wheat(Triticum aestivum L.cv.BARI Gom-26)being a dry season crop frequently faces scarcity of water and results in a lower yield.Therefore,this experiment aims to explore the role of different organic amendments(OAs)in mitigating drought stress-induced damage.The pot experiment consisted of different organic amendments viz.compost,vermicompost and poultry manure@0.09 kg m^(−2)soil,biochar@2.5%w/w soil and chitosan@1%w/w soil which was imposed on the plants grown under both well-watered and drought conditions.Results showed that drought stress reduced plant height(15%),SPAD value(16%),relative water content(13%),number of spikelet spike^(−1)(17%),number of grains spike^(−1)(12%),and 100-grain weight(18%).Organic amendments act as a protectant and reduce drought stress-induced damages by enhancing the morpho-physiological and yield attributes.Vermicompost enhanced SPAD value by 18%,number of spikelets spike^(−1)by 20%,number of grains spike^(−1)by 17%,whereas poultry manure increased plant height by 16%under drought condition compared to control plant.Unlike other OAs applied,vermicompost was proved to be capable of reducing the higher lipid peroxidation and proline content raised by drought condition.Drought stress-induced increment of catalase,ascorbate peroxidase and glutathione reductase activities were also efficiently modulated by the organic amendment application.The present study concluded that OAs play significant roles in alleviating drought stressinduced damages by improving the morpho-physiological attributes and among the different types of OAs used vermicompost performed better which in addition ceased the production of reactive oxygen species. 展开更多

Non-human primates(NHPs)serve as necessary reservoir hosts of parasites that create diseases to human.A close interaction between human and NHP can make a pathway for transmission of zoonotic diseases.To prevent zoonotic infection of zoo keepers,park visitors as well as keeping the captive NHPs in healthy state,it is necessary to carry out regular parasitological examination and treatment.A total of 72 fecal samples of Olive Baboon(n=39)and Common Langur(n=33)irrespective of their age and sex were collected from two zoological gardens of Bangladesh.Eggs and oocysts of seven gastrointestinal(GI)parasites were observed and identified in samples of both host species.The prevalence of GI parasites recorded was 100%.In case of Olive Baboon,the protozoan prevalence was higher(53.83%)than that of helminths,but opposite scenario was seen in case of Common Langur.Besides,higher intensity of coccidian oocysts in both hosts was recorded in the study. 展开更多
