Polymer-based composite electrolytes composed of three-dimensional Li_(6.4)La_(3)Zr_(2)Al_(0.2)O_(12)(3D-LLZAO)have attracted increasing attention due to their continuous ion conduction and satisfactory mechanical properties.However,the organic/inorganic interface is incompatible,resulting in slow lithium-ion transport at the interface.Therefore,the compatibility of organic/inorganic interface is an urgent problem to be solved.Inspired by the concept of“gecko eaves”,polymer-based composite solid electrolytes with dense interface structures were designed.The bridging of organic/inorganic interfaces was established by introducing silane coupling agent(3-chloropropyl)trimethoxysilane(CTMS)into the PEO-3D-LLZAO(PL)electrolyte.The in-situ coupling reaction improves the interface affinity,strengthens the organic/inorganic interaction,reduces the interface resistance,and thus achieves an efficient interface ion transport network.The prepared PEO-3D-LLZAO-CTMS(PLC)electrolyte exhibits enhanced ionic conductivity of 6.04×10^(-4)S cm^(-1)and high ion migration number(0.61)at 60℃and broadens the electrochemical window(5.1 V).At the same time,the PLC electrolyte has good thermal stability and high mechanical properties.Moreover,the Li Fe PO_(4)|PLC|Li battery has excellent rate performance and cycling stability with a capacity decay rate of 2.2%after 100 cycles at 60℃and 0.1 C.These advantages of PLC membranes indicate that this design approach is indeed practical,and the in-situ coupling method provides a new approach to address interface compatibility issues. 展开更多

However, the results were conflict. To clarify the impact of polymorphisms of "XPA", "XPC", "XPD/ERCC2", on lung cancer risk, a meta-analysis was performed in this study. Methods: The electronic databases PubMed and Embase were retrieved for studies included in this meta-analysis by "XPA", "XPC", "XPD/ERCC2", "lung", "cancer/neoplasm/tumor/carcinoma", "polymorphism" (An upper date limit of October, 31, 2009). A meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the relationship among XPA, XPC and XPD polymorphism and lung cancer risks. Results: A total of 31 publications retrieved from Pubmed and Embase included in this study. XPC A939C CC genotype increased lung cancer risk in total population (recessive genetic model: OR=1.23, 95% CI:1.05-1.44; homozygote comparison: OR=1.21,95%CI:1.02-1.43and CC vs. CA contrast: OR=1.25,95%CI:1.06-1.48), except in Asians. XPD A751C, 751C allele and CC genotype also increased lung cancer risk in total population and in Caucasians (recessive genetic model: Total population: OR=1.20, 95%CI:1.07-1.35). No significant correlation was found between XPD A751C and lung cancer risk in Asians and African Americans. XPD G312A AA genotype increased lung cancer risk in total population, in Asians and Caucasians(recessive genetic model: Total population: OR=1.20, 95%CI: 1.06-1.36). No significant association was found between XPA G23A, XPC C499T, XPD C156A and lung cancer risk. Conclusion: Our results suggest that the polymorphisms in XPC and XPD involve in lung cancer risks. XPA polymorphisms is less related to lung cancer risk. 展开更多

Quiescent state has been observed in stem cells(SCs),including in adult SCs and in cancer SCs(CSCs).Quiescent status of SCs contributes to SC self-renewal and conduces to averting SC death from harsh external stimuli.In this review,we provide an overview of intrinsic mechanisms and extrinsic factors that regulate adult SC quiescence.The intrinsic mechanisms discussed here include the cell cycle,mitogenic signaling,Notch signaling,epigenetic modification,and metabolism and transcriptional regulation,while the extrinsic factors summarized here include microenvironment cells,extracellular factors,and immune response and inflammation in microenvironment.Quiescent state of CSCs has been known to contribute immensely to therapeutic resistance in multiple cancers.The characteristics and the regulation mechanisms of quiescent CSCs are discussed in detail.Importantly,we also outline the recent advances and controversies in therapeutic strategies targeting CSC quiescence. 展开更多

Current treatments for full-thickness skin injuries are still unsatisfactory due to the lack of hierarchically stimulated dressings that can integrate the rapid hemostasis,inflammation regulation,and skin tissue remodeling into the one system instead of single-stage boosting.In this work,a multilayer-structured bioactive glass nanopowder(BGN@PTE)is developed by coating the poly-tannic acid andε-polylysine onto the BGN via facile layer-by-layer assembly as an integrative and multilevel dressing for the sequential management of wounds.In comparison to BGN and poly-tannic acid coated BGN,BGN@PTE exhibited the better hemostatic performance because of its multiple dependent approaches to induce the platelet adhesion/activation,red blood cells(RBCs)aggregation and fibrin network formation.Simultaneously,the bioactive ions from BGN facilitate the regulation of the inflammatory response while the poly-tannic acid and antibacterialε-polylysine prevent the wound infection,promoting the wound healing during the inflammatory stage.In addition,BGN@PTE can serve as a reactive oxygen species scavenger,alleviate the oxidation stress in wound injury,induce the cell migration and angiogenesis,and promote the proliferation stage of wound repair.Therefore,BGN@PTE demonstrated the significantly higher wound repair capacity than the commercial bioglass dressing Dermlin™.This multifunctional BGN@PTE is a potentially valuable dressing for full-thickness wound management and may be expected to extend to the other wounds therapy. 展开更多

The changes of protein secondary structures in the extracellular polymeric substances(EPS) extracted from activated sludge by four different methods were studied by analyzing the amide I region(1700–1600 cm-1) of the Fourier transform infrared spectra and model protein test. The results showed the molecular weight distribution of organic matter extracted by centrifugation, heating and cation exchange resin(CER) was similar, while the EPS extracted by centrifugation(Control) and CER had similar fluorescent organic matter. The protein secondary structures of extracted EPS by the four methods were different. The similarities of protein secondary structures between the EPS extracted by CER with the Control were the highest among the four extracted EPS. Although the EPS yield extracted by formaldehyde + NaOH method were the highest, its protein secondary structures had the lowest similarity with those extracted by the Control. Additionally, the effects of centrifugation and CER extraction on the secondary structures of bovine serum albumin were also lower than that of other extraction processes. CER enables the second maximum extraction of EPS and maximum retention of the original secondary structure of proteins. 展开更多

Circulating tumor cells(CTCs)are tumor cells that have sloughed off the primary tumor and extravasate into and circulate in the blood.Understanding of the metastatic cascade of CTCs has tremendous potential for the identification of targets against cancer metastasis.Detecting these very rare CTCs among the massive blood cells is challenging.However,emerging technologies for CTCs detection have profoundly contributed to deepening investigation into the biology of CTCs and have facilitated their clinical application.Current technologies for the detection of CTCs are summarized herein,together with their advantages and disadvantages.The detection of CTCs is usually dependent on molecular markers,with the epithelial cell adhesion molecule being the most widely used,although molecular markers vary between different types of cancer.Properties associated with epithelial-tomesenchymal transition and stemness have been identified in CTCs,indicating their increased metastatic capacity.Only a small proportion of CTCs can survive and eventually initiate metastases,suggesting that an interaction and modulation between CTCs and the hostile blood microenvironment is essential for CTC metastasis.Single-cell sequencing of CTCs has been extensively investigated,and has enabled researchers to reveal the genome and transcriptome of CTCs.Herein,we also review the clinical applications of CTCs,especially for monitoring response to cancer treatment and in evaluating prognosis.Hence,CTCs have and will continue to contribute to providing significant insights into metastatic processes and will open new avenues for useful clinical applications. 展开更多

Flexible strain sensors exhibit outstanding advantages in terms of sensitivity and stability by detecting changes in physical signals.It can be easily attached to human skin and clothed to achieve monitoring of human motion and health.However,general sensing material shows low stretchability and cannot respond to signals under large deformation.In this work,a highly stretchable polymer composite was developed by adding small amount(0.17 wt.%)of silver nanowires(AgNWs)in stretchable conductive polymer materials.The conductivity of polymer/AgNWs composite is 1.3 S/m with the stretchability up to 500%.The stretchable strain sensor based on the polymer/AgNWs composite can respond to strain signals in real time,even for 1%strain response,and shows excellent stability over 1,000 loading/unloading cycles.Moreover,the strain sensor can be attached to human skin and clothed to monitor joints,throat and pulse of the human body.The human body electrocardiogram(ECG)signal was detected successfully with the polymer/AgNWs electrode,which is comparable to the signal obtained by the commercial electrode.Overall,the sensors enable monitoring of human movement and health.These advantages make it a potential application in wearable devices and electronic skin. 展开更多

The efficient cutaneous wound healing accompanied with the enhanced skin appendage regeneration is still a challenge.The bacterial infection and excessive/prolonged inflammation inhibit wound healing process and result in the scar formation.Herein,we reported an anti-inflammatory polycitrate-polyethyleneimine-Ibuprofen(PCEI)and multifunctional PCEI-based F127-ε-polypeptide-alginic(FEA)dressing(FEA-PCEI)for accelerating wound healing and hair follicle neogenesis.PCEI showed the excellent anti-inflammation function through stimulating macrophage towards anti-inflammatory M2 subtype polarization.The FEA-PCEI dressing showed the temperature-response gelation,injectability,robust antibacterial activity,light-damage-resistant,homeostasis ability,and good cytocompatibility.The optimized dosage of FEA-PCEI dressing could significantly accelerate wound healing with anti-infection ability,reduce the scar formation,and promote the hair follicle neogenesis.This study provided a wound-repairing strategy through regulating the phenotype of immune cells by the designing bioactive multifunctional biomaterials. 展开更多

'Bainong 3217 × Mardler' BC5F4 wheat line at the initial stage of inoculation with powdery mildew pathogen (Erysiphe graminis DC) was used to construct a suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) cDNA library. Totally 760 ESTs were obtained through sequencing. Similarity analysis of ESTs based on BLASTn and BLASTx with the sequences in GenBank, in combination with macroarray differential screening, revealed that 199 ESTs of 65 kinds were known to be functionally disease resistance related. Based on the gene expression profiling in the present study, it is postulated that salicylic acid (SA) and MAP-related signal transduction pathways were involved in powdery mildew resistance in wheat. System acquired resistance genes were predominant in terms of kinds and quantity. With the initiation of cell defense reaction, the genes conferring anti-oxidation substances were largely expressed and thus cell protection mechanism was activated. Excessive reactive oxygen species(ROS)in the injured skin may impede the wound repair and skin regeneration.Herein,we develop an injectable self-healing ceria-based nanocomposite hydrogel with ROS-scavenging activity to accelerate wound healing.The nanocomposite hydrogels were successfully prepared by coating cerium oxide nanorods with polyethylenimine and crosslinked with benzaldehyde-terminated F127(F127-CHO)through the dynamic Schiff-base reaction(FVEC hydrogel).The results showed that the FVEC hydrogel possessed the good thermosensitivity,injectability,self-healing ability and ROS scavenging activity.The subcutaneous implantation experiments in mice confirmed that FVEC hydrogels are biocompatible and biodegradable in vivo.The fullthickness skin wound studies showed that FVEC hydrogel could significantly enhance the wound healing and epithelium regeneration with the formation of hair follicle and adipocyte tissue.This work provides a new strategy for the development of multifunctional Cebased nanocomposite hydrogel for full-thickness skin wound healing and regeneration. 展开更多

The objectives of ... Preharvest aflatoxin contamination of grain grown on the US southeastern Coast Plain is provoked and aggravated by abiotic stress. The primary abiotic stress is drought along with high temperatures. The objectives of the present study were to monitor gene expression in developing kernels in response to drought stress and to identify drought-responsive genes for possible use in germplasm assessment. The maize breeding line Tex6 was used, and gene expression profiles were analyzed in developing kernels under drought stress verses well-watered conditions at the stages of 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 d after pollination (DAP) using the 70 mer maize oligo-arrays. A total of 9 573 positive array spots were detected with unique gene IDs, and 7 988 were common in both stressed and well-watered samples. Expression patterns of some genes in several stress response-associated pathways, including abscisic acid, jasmonic acid and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase, were examined, and these specific genes were responsive to drought stress positively. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction validated microarray expression data. The comparison between Tex6 and B73 revealed that there were significant differences in specific gene expression, patterns and levels. Several defense-related genes had been downregulated, even though some defense-related or drought responsive genes were upregulated at the later stages. 展开更多

Numerical simulation and cause analysis of persistent summer drought during the 1920s in eastern China

In the late 1920’s,a mega-drought in China resulted in widespread crop failure and famine.Sufficient evidence suggests that this drought belonged to a dry period ranging from approximately 1922 to 1932.To understand the characteristics and the cause of this persistent drought period,we combined various data,including observations,tree ring proxy data,reanalysis data,simulation results of the Fifth Phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project and numerical downscaling simulations.The results show that during 1922-1932,most regions in eastern China suffered from a persistent drought that lasted for six years,and the maximum negative precipitation anomaly reached−1.5 times the standard deviation.Given its spatial coverage,duration,and strength,the 1920s drought was unique for the 20th century.The 1920s drought was primarily caused by internal variability.Strong easterlies in lower latitudes,strong monsoon circulation,and abnormally high geopotential heights at middle and upper levels were responsible for the 1920s drought conditions in eastern China;these drought conditions could be further attributed to the joint impact of the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation,Pacific Decadal Oscillation and Indian Ocean Basin Mode. 展开更多

Ductal carcinoma in situ(DCIS)represents pre-invasive breast carcinoma.In untreated cases,25-60%DCIS progress to invasive ductal carcinoma(IDC).The challenge lies in distinguishing between non-progressive and progressive DCIS,often resulting in over-or under-treatment in many cases.With increasing screen-detected DCIS in these years,the nature of DCIS has aroused worldwide attention.A deeper understanding of the biological nature of DCIS and the molecular journey of the DCIS-IDC transition is crucial for more effective clinical management.Here,we reviewed the key signaling pathways in breast cancer that may contribute to DCIS initiation and progression.We also explored the molecular features of DCIS and IDC,shedding light on the progression of DCIS through both inherent changes within tumor cells and alterations in the tumor microenvironment.In addition,valuable research tools utilized in studying DCIS including preclinical models and newer advanced technologies such as single-cell sequencing,spatial transcriptomics and artificial intelligence,have been systematically summarized.Further,we thoroughly discussed the clinical advancements in DCIS and IDC,including prognostic biomarkers and clinical managements,with the aim of facilitating more personalized treatment strategies in the future.Research on DCIS has already yielded significant insights into breast carcinogenesis and will continue to pave the way for practical clinical applications. 展开更多
