And itplays an important role in nuclear experiments. However, the base for the tube on the market can cost up to severalhundreds of dollars. Thus there is a need to develop a practical and economical PMT-base in our laboratory.We designed and tested a construction of a photomultiplier base used in a Cosmic Ray Detector. This PMT-baseused the so-called Cockcroft-Walton voltage multiplier circuit[1] to generate a graded series of voltages with linearadjustment from -100 to -1 200 V while the power consumption is low(50 mA current and 0.5 W power requiredunder a 12 V DC supply). Meanwhile other unique features such as simple structure, low cost, less heat dissipation,and safety are emphasized. The test results of the base with a negative high voltage are presented.展开更多
