Aim: To investigate the effect of a new mechanically induced cryptorchidism model on rat epididymal histology. Methods: Eighteen 21-day-old Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into 3 groups of 6 animals each. Ani-mals of Groups 1 and 2 were made unilaterally cryptorchid by closing the left inguinal canal, while Group 3 (controls),sham operated. At Day 60 (Group 1) and Day 90 (Group 2 and 3), the rats were sacrificed. The epididymides of bothsides were weighed, and the diameter of the epididymal tubules, the height of the tubular epithelium and the presenceof fibrosis of the caput epididymides were examined under a light-microscope. Results: The cryptorchid epididymishad a significantly lower weight increase than the contralateral ones and the controls, but the epithelial height and diam-eter of caput epididymal tubules were not significantly different. Fibrosis was not observed. Conclusion; The au-thors proposed that this new model is a convenient method to evaluate the epididymal changes associated with experi-mental cryptorchidism. Aim: Mesenteric cysts are rare abdominal masses which cause vomiting and distention and may be complicated with volvulus, bleeding, torsion and rupture, gastrointestinal perforation and even urinary obstruction. We present a patient with a mesenteric cyst causing gastrointestinal obstruction which treated surgically. Case: A 3 years old male patient was admitted to our hospital with symptoms of vomiting, constipation and abdominal distention. Plain abdominal anteroposterior X-ray study showed air-fluid levels and abdominal ultrasonography revealed a cystic mass of 15 × 8 cms. Abdominal computerized tomographic examination with and without contrast material revealed a giant cystic mass with septations together with secondary findings of intestinal obstruction. Exploratory laparotomy via midline incision was made. A cystic mass containing a clear fluid was observed. The mass was obstructing the ileal passage. The cyst together with 10 cms. of ileum were removed and an ileo-ileostomy was made. Pathological examination was consistent with mesenteric cyst. He was discharged to full recovery with a symptom-free postoperative tenth day. The child is doing well at 1 year after surgery. Discussion: Mesenteric cysts, although they are rare, can be easily diagnosed modern diagnostic imaging methods and treated surgically. 展开更多

Drug-induced liver damage is a frequently encountered clinical table caused by many drugs.Cetirizine is a widely preferred and prescribed antihistaminic agent for allergic disorders due to its non-sedative properties. In view of the literature,we present four cases of hepatotoxicity due to cetirizine use.We conclude that in patients with high levels of liver enzymes of unknown origin, cetirizine as well as other hepatotoxic drugs should be reconsidered. 展开更多
