As the treatment options,modalities and technology has grown,mortality in intensive care unit(ICU)has been on the decline.More and more patients are being discharged to wards and in the care of their loved ones after ...As the treatment options,modalities and technology has grown,mortality in intensive care unit(ICU)has been on the decline.More and more patients are being discharged to wards and in the care of their loved ones after at times prolonged treatment,sometimes in isolation.These survivors have a lower life expectancy and a poorer quality of life.They can have substantial familial financial implications and an economic impact on the healthcare system in terms of increased and continued utilisation of services,the so-called post intensive care syndrome(PICS).But it is not only the patient who is the sufferer.The mental health of the loved ones and family members may also be affected,which is termed as PICS-family.In this review,we shall be reviewing the definition,epidemiology,clinical features,diagnosis and evaluation,treatment and follow up of PICS.We shall also focus on measures to prevent,rehabilitate and understand the ICU stay from patients’perspective on how to redesign the ICU,post ICU care needs for a better patient outcome.展开更多
As-cast Mg-Sn alloys(3,6,and 9 wt%Sn)were solution treated at 653,703 and 753 K(380,430 and 480℃)for 1,4,8,12 and 24 h to determine the variation of secondary phase with respect to Sn content,temperature and time.Mg-...As-cast Mg-Sn alloys(3,6,and 9 wt%Sn)were solution treated at 653,703 and 753 K(380,430 and 480℃)for 1,4,8,12 and 24 h to determine the variation of secondary phase with respect to Sn content,temperature and time.Mg-3 wt%Sn exhibits Mg2Sn dissolution at all solution treatment temperatures whereas Mg-6 and 9 wt%Sn alloy displays Mg2Sn reprecipitation and dissolution depending on the heat treatment temperature.In addition,a combined mathematical model that predicts the secondary phase dissolution and solute redistribution as a function of temperature and time is presented in this work.This model is a significant improvement compared to the previous studies where the dissolution and homogenization processes are considered independently.The effect of grain size and solute mobility upon the dissolution and homogenization kinetics is discussed as well.展开更多

Titanium (Ti) is one of the most widely used biomaterial for medical implants because of its excellent mechanical proper...The use of metals and their alloys in restorative and implant dentistry dates back to centuries. Titanium (Ti) is one of the most widely used biomaterial for medical implants because of its excellent mechanical properties and exceptional biocompatibility. The good biocompatibility of Ti is related to the thin oxide layer formed on Ti surface. TiO2 is inactive with the surrounding biological environment and quite compatible with living tissues. However, TiO2 layer can be destroyed during movements between implant and bone tissue under loading condition. The localized destruction causes corrosion of the implant, thus, weakening it;and can induce the leak of small metallic particles or ions into living tissues. This article highlights a review of the various aspects of corrosion and biocompatibility of dental titanium implants as well as suprastructures, and the methods to prevent it.展开更多

Management involves identification of the same, removal of any foreign body from the maxillary sinus, if present, followed by appropriate flap for closer. A case is presented when a gutta percha (GP) point was accidentally dislodged into the right maxillary sinus during preliminary diagnosis of the oro-antral fistula. The micromechanical and macromechanical behavior of idealized granular assemblies, made by linearly elastic, frictionless, polydisperse spheres, are studied in a periodic, triaxial box geometry, using the dis crete el...The micromechanical and macromechanical behavior of idealized granular assemblies, made by linearly elastic, frictionless, polydisperse spheres, are studied in a periodic, triaxial box geometry, using the dis crete element method. Emphasis is put on the effect of polydispersity under purely isotropic loading and unloading, deviatoric (volume conserving), and uniaxial compression paths. We show that scaled pressure, coordination number and fraction of rattlers behave in a very similar fashion as functions of volume fraction, irrespective of the deformation path applied. Interestingly, they show a systematic dependence on the deformation mode and polydispersity via the respective jamming volume fraction. This confirms that the concept of a single jamming point has to be rephrased to a range of variable jamming points, dependent on microstructure and history of the sample, making the jamming volume fraction a statevariable. This behavior is confirmed when a simplified constitutive model involving structural anisotropy is calibrated using the purely isotropic and deviatoric simulations. The basic model parameters are found to depend on the polydispersity of the sample through the different jamming volume fractions. The predictive power of the calibrated model is checked by comparison with an independent test, namely uniaxial compression. The important features of the uniaxial experiment are captured and a qualitative prediction for the evolution of stress and fabric is shown involving a "softening" regime in both stress and fabric stronger for the latter that was not prescribed into the model a priori.展开更多
