Background Reserpine is currently used by millions of Chinese hypertensive patients, in spite of the continued concern of its depressogenic effect, even when used in low dose. This study aimed to investigate the association between low-dose reserpine use and depression in older Chinese hypertensive patient. Methods In this cross-sectional, case-control study, we recruited patient aged 60 years or over who had regularly taken one or two tables of “compound reserpine and triamterene tablets (CRTTs)” for more than one year (reserpine user) from 26 community health centers located in 10 provinces in China. For each patient who took CRTTs, we selected an age (within five years) and sex matched hypertensive patient who had never taken any drugs containing reserpine (non-reserpine user) as control. Depressive symptoms were evaluated using a Chinese depression scale adapted from the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale. Demographic, clinical data and laboratory examination results within six months were collected. Results From August 2018 to December 2018, 787 reserpine user and 787 non-reserpine user were recruited. The mean age of all study subjects was 70.3 years, with about equal numbers of males and females. The mean depression score was 40.4 in reserpine users and 40.6 in non-reserpine users (P = 0.7). The majority of study subject had a depression score < 53 (87.6% in reserpine users and 88.2% in non-reserpine users, respectively). There were no significant differences in the prevalence of mild, moderate or severe depression in reserpine users and non-reserpine users. Conclusions There is no association between low-dose reserpine use and depression in older hypertensive patient. The role of reserpine in the treatment and control of hypertension should be reconsidered;and further studies, especially randomized, controlled clinical trials to compare efficacy and safety of reserpine and other widely recommended anti-hypertensive agents are needed. 展开更多

Brain-inspired computing is a new technology that draws on the principles of brain science and is oriented to the efficient development of artificial general intelligence(AGI),and a brain-inspired computing system is a hierarchical system composed of neuromorphic chips,basic software and hardware,and algorithms/applications that embody this tech-nology.While the system is developing rapidly,it faces various challenges and opportunities brought by interdisciplinary research,including the issue of software and hardware fragmentation.This paper analyzes the status quo of brain-inspired computing systems.Enlightened by some design principle and methodology of general-purpose computers,it is proposed to construct"general-purpose"brain-inspired computing systems.A general-purpose brain-inspired computing system refers to a brain-inspired computing hierarchy constructed based on the design philosophy of decoupling software and hardware,which can flexibly support various brain-inspired computing applications and neuromorphic chips with different architec-tures.Further,this paper introduces our recent work in these aspects,including the ANN(artificial neural network)/SNN(spiking neural network)development tools,the hardware agnostic compilation infrastructure,and the chip micro-archi-tecture with high flexibility of programming and high performance;these studies show that the"general-purpose"system can remarkably improve the efficiency of application development and enhance the productivity of basic software,thereby being conductive to accelerating the advancement of various brain-inspired algorithms and applications.We believe that this is the key to the collaborative research and development,and the evolution of applications,basic software and chips in this field,and conducive to building a favorable software/hardware ecosystem of brain-inspired computing. 展开更多

We have witnessed the tremendous momentum of the second spring of parallel computing in recent years. But, we should remember the low points of the field more than 20 years ago and review the lesson that has led to the question at that point whether "parallel computing will soon be relegated to the trash heap reserved for promising technologies that never quite make it" in an article entitled "the death of parallel computing" written by the late Ken Kennedy -- a prominent leader of parallel computing in the world. Facing the new era of parallel computing, we should learn from the robust history of sequential computation in the past 60 years. We should study the foundation established by the model of Tuhring machine (1936) and its profound impact in this history. To this end, this paper examines the disappointing state of the work in parallel Turing machine models in the past 50 years of parallel computing research. Lacking a solid yet intuitive parallel Turing machine model will continue to be a serious challenge in the future parallel computing. Our paper presents an attempt to address this challenge by presenting a proposal of a parallel Turing machine model. We also discuss why we start our work in this paper from a parallel Turing machine model instead of other choices. 展开更多

In this work,via a facile solvothermal route,we synthesized an anode material for lithium ion batteries(LIBs)—SnS2 nanoparticle/graphene(SnS2 NP/GNs) nanocomposite.The nanocomposite consists of SnS2nanoparticles with an average diameter of 4 nm and graphene nanosheets without restacking.The SnS2 nanoparticles are firmly anchored on the graphene nanosheets.As an anode material for LIBs,the nanocomposite exhibits good Li storage performance especially high rate performance.At the high current rate of 5,10,and 20 A/g,the nanocomposite delivered high capacities of 525,443,and 378 mAh/g,respectively.The good conductivity of the graphene nanosheets and the small particle size of SnS2contribute to the electrochemical performance of SnS2 NP/GNs. 展开更多

The coexistence of coronary artery disease(CAD)and atrial fibrillation(AF)is common in clinical practice.Patients with CAD require antiplatelet therapy to reduce the occurrence of myocardial ischemic events.However,patients with AF at high risk of thromboembolism require oral anticoagulants to reduce the occurrence of thromboembolic events such as stroke.In cases where CAD coexists with AF,the combined use of antiplatelet and anticoagulation therapy can effectively reduce the risk of ischemic and thromboembolic events but increase the risk of bleeding at the same time.The optimal antithrombotic regimen in patients with both CAD and AF has been controversial in clinical practice.In recent years,the expert consensuses on antithrombotic therapy in patients with AF presenting with acute coronary syndrome and/or undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention have been successively released in Europe and North America,and have been updated in a timely manner.In contrast,the guidelines on antithrombotic therapies in China are lacking.Based on published clinical evidence,this consensus incorporated relevant international and Chinese guidelines,consensuses,and expert recommendations,and addressed the issues encountered in the clinical practice of antithrombotic therapy in patients with AF and different types of CAD.The current guideline is of great significance to guide treatment in patients with both CAD and AF in China. 展开更多

A constitutive model is constructed to consider the resin matrix post-yield softening and progressive hardening behaviors. A user-defined material mechanical behavior (UMAT) subroutine is created, then the non-linear three-dimensional finite element analysis on the tensile processes of multi-fiber composites is conducted. The approximate 45° shear bands emanating from the matrix crack tip are found, being coincided with the experimental observations. The shear stress on the adjacent intact fiber/matrix interface is strongly influenced by the shear band and thus the stress concentration factor (SCF) changes obviously in the adjacent fibers. The distinct stress redistribution in the adjacent intact fibers implies the significant effect of the shear bands on the progressive fiber fracture initiation. As the inter-fiber spacing increases, the peak value of the SCF in the adjacent intact fiber decreases, whereas the overload zone becomes wider. The research has provided a helpful tool to evaluate the failure of fiber composites and optimize the composite performance through the proper selection of resin matrix properties and fiber volume fraction. 展开更多

Brain-inspired computing refers to computational models,methods,and systems,that are mainly inspired by the processing mode or structure of brain.A recent study proposed the concept of"neuromorphic completeness"and the corresponding system hierarchy,which is helpful to determine the capability boundary of brain-inspired computing system and to judge whether hardware and software of brain-inspired computing are compatible with each other.As a position paper,this article analyzes the existing brain-inspired chips design characteristics and the current so-called"general purpose"application development frameworks for brain-inspired computing,as well as introduces the background and the potential of this proposal.Further,some key features of this concept are presented through the comparison with the Turing completeness and approximate computation,and the analyses of the relationship with"general-purpose"brain-inspired computing systems(it means that computing systems can support all computable applications).In the end,a promising technical approach to realize such computing systems is introduced,as well as the on-going research and the work foundation.We believe that this work is conducive to the design of extensible neuromorphic complete hardware-primitives and the corresponding chips.On this basis,it is expected to gradually realize"general purpose"brain-inspired computing system,in order to take into account the functionality completeness and application efficiency. 展开更多

In order to discover structurally new and bioactive conipounds from marine life,we studied the secondary metabolites of the marine-derived fungi associated with a marine sponge(XS-3)from the Xisha islands.As a result,4-O-methylcandidusin A(1),a new p-terphenyl alcohol,along with nine known analogs(2-10),were isolated and identified from the marine spongederived fungus Aspergillus candidus OUCMDZ-1051.The structures of these compounds were determined by analyzing spectroscopic data,especially ID and 2D NMR.The new compound 1 selectively inhibited the growth of the MDA-MB-46&BT474 and A431 human cancer cell lines with the IC_(50) values of 1.84,6.05 and 0.98 pmol/L,respectively.Compound 1 also displayed a selective antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli with an MIC value of 27.3 pmol/L.The results indicated 4-O-methylcandidusin A(1)as a potential lead in the new drug discovery for triple negative breast cancer,invasive ductal breast cancer and epidermoid cancer.The antimicrobial metabolites also evidenced a clue for chemical defense of sponges by their associated microorganisms. 展开更多
