This paper introduces a decagonal C-shaped complementary splitring resonator(CSRR)textile-based metamaterial(MTM).The overall size of the proposed sub-wavelength MTM unit cell is 0.28λ0×0.255λ0 at 3 GHz.Its sto...This paper introduces a decagonal C-shaped complementary splitring resonator(CSRR)textile-based metamaterial(MTM).The overall size of the proposed sub-wavelength MTM unit cell is 0.28λ0×0.255λ0 at 3 GHz.Its stopband behaviour was first studied prior analysing the negative index properties of the proposed MTM.It is worth noting that in this work a unique way the experiments were completed.For both simulations and measurements,the proposed MTM exhibited negative-permittivity and negative-refractive index characteristics with an average bandwidth of more than 3 GHz(considering 1.7 to 8.2 GHz as the measurements were carried out within this range).In simulations,the MTM exhibited negative-permittivity properties within the range of 1.7 to 7.52 GHz and 7.96 to 8.2 GHz;and negative-refractive index from 1.7 to 2.23 GHz and 2.33 to 5.09 GHz and 5.63 to 7.45 GHz.When measured from 1.7 to 8.2 GHz,negative-permittivity and negative-refractive index characteristics are exhibited throughout an average bandwidth of more than 3 GHz.Similarly,the transmission coefficient attained in simulations and measurements indicated about 3 GHz of bandwidth,from 1.7 to 3.88 GHz and from 6.68 to 7.4 GHz.The satisfactory agreement between simulations and experiments indicates the potential of the proposed MTM for microwave applications.展开更多
This paper presents the design and analysis of antipodal Vivaldi antennas(AVAs)for breast cancer detection.In order to enhance the antenna gain,different techniques such as using the uniform and non-uniform corrugatio...This paper presents the design and analysis of antipodal Vivaldi antennas(AVAs)for breast cancer detection.In order to enhance the antenna gain,different techniques such as using the uniform and non-uniform corrugation,expanding the dielectric substrate and adding the parasitic patch are applied to original AVA.The design procedure of two developed AVA structures i.e.,AVA with non-uniform corrugation and AVA with parasitic patch are presented.The proposed AVAs are designed on inexpensive FR4 substrate.The AVA with non-uniform corrugation has compact dimension of 50×50 mm2 or 0.28λL×0.28λL,whereλL is wavelength of the lowest operating frequency.The antenna can operate within the frequency range from 1.63 GHz to over 8 GHz.For the AVA with parasitic patch and uniform corrugation,the overall size of antenna is 50×86 mm2 or 0.24λL×0.41λL.It can operate within the frequency range from 1.4 GHz to over 8 GHz.The maximum gain for AVA with non-uniform corrugation and AVA with parasitic patch and uniform corrugation are 9.03 and 11.31 dBi,respectively.The corrugation profile and parasitic patch of the proposed antenna are optimized to achieve the desired properties for breast cancer detection.In addition,the proposed AVAs are measured with breast phantom to detect cancerous cell inside the breast and the performance in detecting cancerous cell are discussed.The measured result can confirm that the proposed AVAs can detect unwanted cell inside the breast while maintaining the compact size,simple structure and low complexity in design.展开更多

The proposed probe is adapted from the conventional SMA connector which is ch...This paper proposes the stepped coaxial line sensor using the reflection coefficient in microwave range for complex permittivity measuring. The proposed probe is adapted from the conventional SMA connector which is cheap and easy to fabricate. The analysis model of the probe has been done by using FDTD method with the reference material such as the distilled water. The stepped SMA probe presents the accurate result compared with the convention one. The permittivity values of the concentrated alcohols of 10%, 15% and 20% as DUTs at 24oC in a frequency range of 0.1 GHz to 6 GHz have been measured using the proposed probe. Also, the measurement of salted butter permittivity has been performed. The measured results are more accurate compared with the commercial probe.展开更多
Powder coating is an important process in the food industry,especially for snack foods such as potato chips,to create variety in food products.Electrostatic coating has been adopted in order to provide better transfer...Powder coating is an important process in the food industry,especially for snack foods such as potato chips,to create variety in food products.Electrostatic coating has been adopted in order to provide better transfer efficiency and lower the dust produced during coating.Studying the effect of electrode voltage on coating efficiency and evenness of baked potato chips using the developed electrostatic powder coating system was the main purpose of this research.Different types of NaCl(refined and table salts)were coated on baked potato chips at 0,30,40,50,60,and 70 kV.After coating with either refined or table salt,transfer efficiency,adhesion after coating,coating evenness and texture of samples were determined.Higher transfer efficiency,adhesion and coating evenness were observed when electrostatic coating was conducted at 30-50 kV.Most samples with higher transfer efficiency,adhesion and evenness were obtained after electrostatic coating.However,it did not significantly affect hardness of baked potato chips.展开更多
