Consequently,rolls are very critical to the costs of steel production. Besides the rolling accidents, surface quality problems, including inhomogeneous wear and a decrease of the surface roughness of the rolls are other main reasons for outage and a change of the rolls. Therefore, safe rolls, with superior wear resistance and roughness retentivity will be a future trend in the cold rolling steel industry. In this study, the property characteristics and in-service performance of high-speed steel (HSS) cold rolling work rolls at Baosteel are discussed. The results of this study indicate that in-service performance of HSS cold work rolls has an improvement over conventional rolls. Implementation of HSS work rolls will prolong the rolling campaign and improve the rolling stability, thus, the cost of cold rolling production can be better controlled.展开更多

To improve the mechanical properties of WC-Al2O3 composites, the effects of trace amount of CeO2 additives on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the WC-Al2O3 composites prepared by hot pressing were inves...To improve the mechanical properties of WC-Al2O3 composites, the effects of trace amount of CeO2 additives on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the WC-Al2O3 composites prepared by hot pressing were investigated. The results revealed that the WC-Al2O3 composites doped with 0.1% CeOz possessed refined microstructure and enhanced mechanical properties compared with that of the undoped WC-Al2O3composites. Trace CeO2 suppressed the decarburization of WC, promoted the microstructural refinement, and improved the interface coherence of the WC matrix and Al2O3. When 0.1% CeO2 was added to the WC-Al2O3 composites, the effect of CeO2 resulted in the achievement of a relative density of 98.82% with an excellent Vickers hardness of 16.89 GPa, combining a fracture toughness of 9.85 MPa. m1/2 with an acceptable flexural strength of 1 024.05 MPa.展开更多
To solve the problem of the severe mismatch between the product and roll materials in the preliminary rolling line,a new graphitic steel material was designed,its microstructure and high-temperature friction and wear ...To solve the problem of the severe mismatch between the product and roll materials in the preliminary rolling line,a new graphitic steel material was designed,its microstructure and high-temperature friction and wear properties were investigated.Moreover,the feasibility of replacing semi-steel with this new material in the V1 stand roll was studied herein.The results show that the graphitic steel matrix is strengthened by silicon and nickel elements.The presence of spherical graphite also provides self-lubrication and heat conduction and prevents the propagation of cracks.Carbides in the appropriate amount and size strengthen the matrix,reduce the cracking effect of the matrix,and are not easily broken,thereby reducing high-temperature abrasive wear.Under the same hightemperature friction and wear conditions,compared with semi-steel,the wear-scar surface of graphitic steel exhibits less wear-scar depth and wear volume,a smaller friction coefficient,reduced oxide layer thickness,and fewer instances of peeling and microcracks.Therefore,the newly designed graphitic steel has higher wear resistance and hot-crack resistance than semi-steel,which makes it feasible for use in replacing semi-steel as a new V1 frame roll material in the blooming mill.展开更多
Surface roughness considerably influences the stamping and coating performance of the automotive plates;however,the surface roughness of the automotive plates is transferred from the roll during the rolling process.Th...Surface roughness considerably influences the stamping and coating performance of the automotive plates;however,the surface roughness of the automotive plates is transferred from the roll during the rolling process.Therefore,the variation and control technology regarding the roughness of the automotive plates and rolls has drawn increasing attention from researchers in China and around the globe.In this study,the research methods,analytical techniques,prediction models,transfer rules,and control technologies regarding the surface roughness of the automotive plates and rolls were reviewed.Among these,an online measurement system for automotive-plate and roll surface roughness has been applied to the production lines of Germany,China,Belgium,Holland,Austria,and other countries and has achieved remarkable results.Online measurement and timely feedback regarding the automotive-plate and roll surface roughness are needed to ensure favorable conditions for the establishment of automotive-plate roughness-control measurement.展开更多
